I‘ve read this book at least five times, and I love it a little bit more every time.
Wow! Five bright stars for To Kill a Mockingbird.
Yes I have been living under a rock since I have never read or been exposed to this classic novel.
This is the story of the very likable Scout, whose white father is about to stand up for a black man accused of rape. The tale of the loss of innocence, the battle of standing up for what is right even when no one stands beside you... just awesome.
I loved this book, and i recommend it to anyone.
Harper Lee's outstanding HF novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, won the Pulitzer Prize and is a great IR for your 6-8th grade classrooms. Join Scout Finch and her family as they explore their town of Maycomb, Alabama in the 1930's. Scout's Dad, Atticus, is an attorney and takes on an African American man, Tom Robinson's, rape case. Join Scout on her journey of observing this heart-breaking case. #UCFLAE3414F19
#StoryBookSunday - so.. I know super unpopular opinion here but... I mean it was okay. I kinda see how it is taught in schools but I think there are other books out there that would be more entertaining for the youth ...

Somehow I‘d made it through high school without reading this which is how I‘m only reading it now at 31. It was good! Took me a while to finish just because I‘ve had so much going on the last month, so that made it harder. I did really enjoy it though - the characters were great and the writing was superb

Sweet mother of Jesus. It happened to me again, for the second time in 24 hours!!! I ordered the book on the left (this time from a seller on Abe Books), and got the cover on the right. 😭
Seeing as how I scrolled through PAGES of this title in order to select a specific cover, and purposely did not order any of the scores of cheaper listings featuring the cover on the right, I‘m seriously annoyed. 🤬
Gonna start nice and blunt.
Racism is bad, there is no argument there, but the level seen in this book is outside any experience I have ever had in my lifetime, so truly understanding the world and characters that Harper Lee created was a slow and steady process.
The book is good, but it took time for the world to feel real to me, but it certainly stuck with me once I finished.
"I asked Miss Maudie about it. 'Your father‘s right,' she said. 'Mockingbirds don‘t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don‘t eat up people‘s gardens, don‘t nest in corncribs, they don‘t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That‘s why it‘s a sin to kill a mockingbird.'"
A full building evacuation drill at work resulted in some time for me to finally start To Kill a Mockingbird. I‘ve never read this before so I‘m excited to cross this off my list
? When you're trying to be funny with your 13 year old and circle her 22 year old Literature teacher's mistakes in her letter home only to read all the way to the end where it says "sign and return." ?????
Today, we participated in a fundraiser for our amazing local, all-inclusive playground. For a donation, we got to paint a parking space (and can repaint as many times as we like for 1 year). The lot is very old and bumpy, so this ended up being way harder than anticipated, but here‘s our spot! #atticus
Like many kids, I read To Kill a Mockingbird as part of an assignment. At that time, it topped the list of my fave required reading. Coming back to this one for my podcast as an adult was especially interesting. I still loved the writing + the glimpse of childhood we get through Scout‘s eyes (+ Scout!). But I also became aware that its depiction of race is way more complicated than I understood as a teen. Learn more on my latest ep! Link in bio.
I finally read To Kill a Mockingbird. When I was reading the first page I realized from the first few lines that I had tried reading this book a long time ago... I must've stopped too early and never got around to finishing it. This book has many good moral lessons and as for Atticus Finch... What can I say???? Such a wonderful Character.
I'm having one of those moments I haven't had in a few years, where I get both melancholy for my late #ADHD diagnosis (at 26) and grateful (better late than never). #Audiobooks are a godsend, library ones exponentially so. It still astounds me I managed to (barely) graduate law school undiagnosed, but this classic of my profession has sat on my shelf unread for 5 years. Now I'm ⅓ of the way through, having only started it 4 hours ago 😊 #Pulitzer
To kill a Mockingbird.
Reading the comments, i am skeptical if any of the commentators actually read the complete book. What is the point of speeding through school if you didn‘t learn anything of use? And taking the test together is pointless unless we all are going to crash together or soar together. Love, G0d. Because God is Love.
This 2015 photo showed up in my Time Hop today. I had it made into a mousepad for work and see it daily, but I still love it a lot. I call it my daughter's Scout Finch photo.

I just finished reading Furious Hours by Casey Cep (it's about an unfinished true crime book Harper Lee was writing) and I started thinking of my visit to HarperCollins on Epic Reads Day! One of their lobby coffee tables is filled with Lee-related memorabilia including an ARC of TKAM!
Don't forget to enter my #32kGiveaway of a book I got signed at EpicReads Day! See my original post for #giveaway details:

I don‘t think it will come as any surprise, but I‘m going to say it for the record, anyway: I wholeheartedly recommend To Kill A Mockingbird. Read it out of curiosity, read it for the cultural capital, read it for nostalgia, read it for the questions it raises – just read it! It is accessible and engaging for all readers, of any age, anywhere in the world. Full review here: http://keepingupwiththepenguins.com/to-kill-a-mockingbird-harper-lee/
Had the best time tonight at To Kill a Mockingbird with fellow theatre aficionado Todd Doughty — a friend who knows the book and movie EVEN BETTER THAN I DO! Big props to cast and crew and everyone involved with the poignant, powerful drama .
