Catching Fire
Catching Fire | Suzanne Collins
Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has won the annual Hunger Games with fellow district tribute Peeta Mellark. But it was a victory won by defiance of the Capitol and their harsh rules. Katniss and Peeta should be happy. After all, they have just won for themselves and their families a life of safety and plenty. But there are rumors of rebellion among the subjects, and Katniss and Peeta, to their horror, are the faces of that rebellion. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge.Suzanne Collins continues the amazing story of Katniss Everdeen in this second novel of the phenomenal Hunger Games trilogy.

★★★★★

Catching Fire was an excellent follow-up to
The Hunger Games. The romance, the plot twists, and all the newly introduced characters added up to make an exceptionally intense and keep-you-up-all-night novel. I really don't think I could have asked for a better sequel.

The story continues in a way that was unexpected. I didn‘t know anything going into these books. I am enjoying them and the story of Katniss. Weird turn in this one that pushes the third. This was a good book to read on vacation in Florida this week.

This was a very compelling read, just like the first book, but it was also somewhat disappointing. Lots of deux ex machina and repeated elements from the previous installment. I'm curious to see where the third book takes me.
Also, Team Peeta all the way!

This book is by far one of the best books I have ever read. It is the perfect sequel to the hunger games and I love how the author manages all her sentences. It has just the right amount of description, perfect and fitting dialogue, and overall a fantastic book. Dystopian fiction is amazing. I would recommend this to loads of people.

Overall Rating 5⭐ | Narration 😍=Amazing
(Re-read on Audio)
This still holds up as one of my all-time favorite dystopian series. It is the series that started my love for this sub-genre of science fiction. The narration was once again top-notch and I highly recommend the special editions of these books with Tatiana Maslany‘s narrating. I‘m looking forward to listening to the final book in the series, soon.

This is not a quote but why do people think that forcing someone to marry somebody is going to stop war! Like umm if that is the case 2 years olds would be married. You never know what they people would do! Anyway the point of this is that if you are ever running a country DONT FORCE PEOPLE TO GET MARRIED please. Ok thanks for your time! Bye and have a good day. :D

On every subsequent re-read, I enjoy this series but there was something different going on with Tatiana Maslany's narration that I love.

The way her voice catches, the sighs and small dips in her voice. The confusion of her emotions from the last games through this victory tour and into the Quarter Quell really echoes through Tatiana's voice and brings another dimension to the role.

#audiobook Finished the second book and man what an ending! I was just as taken aback as Katniss; no one ever seems to let the reader know the plan 😉 Looking forward to finishing the trilogy!

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I loved this trilogy!!! 13mo
CrowCAH @Riveted_Reader_Melissa it‘s my first time reading/listening and I am invested. The writing is well done! 13mo
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @CrowCAH I‘ll admit, I hated the concept going in, a reality show where they compete until only 1 survives...just didn‘t appeal to me at all, when my book club at the time picked it, I was like groan... but I loved it, it was so well done, and for a YA novel it handled so many things perfectly, even the PTSD and survivors guilt issues that many never touch. 13mo
CrowCAH @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I agree, it handles a lot of issues in a subtle way that works so well with the story. I was hesitant at first to pick up the series, but after talking with @CKBrooke she convinced me that I would be able to handle the content. 13mo
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @CrowCAH I‘m so glad you are enjoying the experience of reading it for the first time. 13mo

A great follow up! The plot is really thrilling, but the characters are also well written out. I would have liked for the time in the arena to be a bit longer, but this was also very nice. I liked how the 24 participants reacted in the trainingsarea. Katniss can be a bit annoying at some points, but she is still very strong and powerfull. Loved it!

Another exciting story. I had expected a different uprising. Unfortunately I was a little annoyed as I found Katniss clueless and needlessly hostile and at times calculating (which was good) and then impulsive (which was bad). It got a bit on my nerves. Haymitch was right. Nevertheless I liked the story and I'm adding the third book to my wishlist.

Although both Katniss and Peeta have won the Hunger Games, neither has achieved their fairy tale ending, especially with rumours spreading of a rebellion against the Capitol - one that they may have helped ignite. Catching Fire, an excellent sequel to The Hunger Games, revolves around the aftermath of Katniss and Peeta surviving against all odds, and tackling the unforgettable memories that terrorize them at night.

Ella.Torres If you enjoy reading books that are a blend of suspense, romance and science fiction, then this is a perfect book for you! 1y
Ella.Torres Representing safety and security, Katniss‘ bow and arrows are a recurring motif in the novel. This weapon is important to Katniss as she relies on her bow and arrow to ensure that her family has food. 1y
Ella.Torres Also, hunting in the woods and knowing that she can provide for her family gives her a sense of comfort. Moreover, in the arena, Katniss uses it to protect herself, therefore granting her confidence and increasing her chances of survival during the torturous game.
1y
MissYaremcio Nicely done! I love how you picked up on Katniss's weapons being a motif and not a symbol as she does have several bows throughout the story! 6/6 1y

In this book and Hunger games. They are thrown into the arena. They author uses incredibly descriptive words to show you with words and not images what is happing. You can really see the danger the mentors are in and the challanges of trying to live in this harsh envirment with people main goal to kill you and live. she desribes the tree branch as not just wood but rubbery wood harder to snap. You can see the type of wood in detail and imagine it.

Yet another Hunger Games book that holds up nicely, Catching Fire definitely has good re-read value, especially after The Ballad. There were several little moments of levity to help keep the entire novel from sinking into despair, and I absolutely adore how masterfully Peeta can manipulate an audience. He‘s made out to be this paragon of goodness and that makes it pretty easy for him to garner sympathy from the Capitol crowds.

I really liked this book, it was an action and romance novel. This story is about Katniss Everdeen, she was in the last hunger games and won them with her onscreen lover. For the Seventy-Third games, it was the Quarter Quell. All of the victors, or winners, had to go back into the games to fight to the death.

Camryn_VandenBroeke Katniss is challenged with keeping herself alive but most importantly her onscreen lover Peeta alive. Peeta has done nothing but care for Katniss and she wants to pay him back. Peeta and Katniss have to challenge themselves in the games and trust people they didn't think they couldn't trust. If you like books that have action but also but love you will like this book. It is a heartthrob but also a thriller.
2y
Camryn_VandenBroeke The theme of this novel is survival. Katniss and Peeta have to survive and save each other throughout the games. Katniss has a different plan and chooses to save Peeta over herself, she knows that he deserves it more than her. 2y
MissYaremcio Great review Camryn! It is such a great series and I can only imagine how sad you were to finish it! Keep up the great work! 6/6 2y
