Love Simon
Love Simon: Simon Vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda Official Film Tie-in | Becky Albertalli
'Worthy of Fault in Our Stars-level obsession.' Entertainment Weekly 'Brilliant book' John Green The beloved, award-winning YA LGBT novel is now a major motion picture starring 13 Reasons Why's Katherine Langford and Everything, Everything's Nick Robinson. Straight people should have to come out too. And the more awkward it is, the better. Simon Spier is sixteen and trying to work out who he is - and what he's looking for. But when one of his emails to the very distracting Blue falls into the wrong hands, things get all kinds of complicated. Because, for Simon, falling for Blue is a big deal . . . It's a holy freaking huge awesome deal. One of the most exciting YA debuts, Love Simon is the must-have book of the moment. Dive into Simon's world before you see the film everyone's talking about! 'I love you, SIMON. I LOVE YOU! And I love this fresh, funny, live-out-loud book." Jennifer Niven, bestselling author of All the Bright Places

This took me a minute to get into. The writting felt a bit choppy and Simon can be a typically awful teen. But about half way through I fell totally in love with him. The story is cute, and clever - mixing emails and narration - and all of the characters are distinct and creative. By the end I was completely hooked and I am so sad it is now over.

I admit, I am such a happy human with sappy YA. This book was basically perfect. I loved the cast of characters - they felt real and honest - and I frankly didn't know who Blue was until he was revealed. I couldn't believe that I didn't pick up on the major hints the author sprinkled throughout (just like Simon didn't)! I'm so glad for the representation, the dialogue about our assumptions, and the adorable romance (of course). So much recommend.

JoyBlue I *did* guess Blue's identity; but, it didn't diminish from my love of this book. 😉 ❤💛💚💙💜 1mo

Audiobook courtesy of Hoopla. Well another recommendation that‘s not my typical genre but it‘s cute & funny as hell. I had no idea what to expect. A fun, funny, engaging quick listen. Good choice of narrators. The author picked a great secondary character to be the main character in book 2. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Just finished this audiobook, and I absolutely loved it. I will admit that I‘m hesitant to watch the movie, cause I doubt it‘ll do the book justice. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

MayJasper I often avoid films for that very reason 1mo
LoveToReadLiveToRead The films actually quite good. Different to the book in ways obviously but I still enjoyed it.....and so did my husband who sat down with me when I‘d just started it and got sucked in! 1mo
Scochrane26 I agree with @LoveToReadLiveToRead. The movie changes a few things, but overall, it‘s a good one. I teared up at some moments w/ his parents. The cast is good. 1mo

This was such an amazing book and an amazing way to start the #newtsreadathon2019 ! Going into this I wasn‘t sure how I would like since I had heard so many great things I was completely ready to think it was so-so. By the end I was completely fan-girling over all the characters and completely in love with the story! If you haven‘t checked it out yet you need to!

Beyond sweet, beyond perfect. I don‘t think I disliked a minute of this book. It was comfortable and real, with characters you fell for again and again. Simon is, by far, one of my favorite protagonists ever. This book might just always stand out as my favorite piece of LGBTQ+ fiction ever. Becky Albertalli is one to watch.

One of the most genuine and beautiful depictions of coming out and gay teenage crushes I have read. It's funny and sweet, but also a serious and mostly positive example of coming out in a largely straight world.

Loved this! It was light and fun and sweet and lovely. I can see why it‘s being compared with Rainbow Rowell‘s books, though it doesn‘t quite have the depth in my opinion. But this was a thoroughly charming read. Lovable characters and a plot that dealt with love, family, friendships, and acceptance. I‘ll definitely be reading more of this series. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Ever since I heard about this book I've wanted to read it. When the movie came out I wanted to rest it even more. Then I saw the movie and that is when I decided this month would be the month that I read it. I am so happy I finally did. With subtle differences compared to the movie I was entertained and intrigued to know what was going to happen next. The character of Simon is really fleshed out and has a great personality.

Our teen librarian generously let me set up a pride month display! When I was 16 and first realized I was bi, the first place I went to for guidance was the library (I grew up in a small town and was afraid to confide in my family and friends). The books I found gave me validation and made me feel like I wasn't alone. I've never forgotten that feeling, and I hope teens also find our library to be a safe space where they can be themselves. 🏳️‍🌈

ravenlee Do you know this one? 4mo
BookInMyHands I‘m so glad the library was a safe space for you. 🏳️‍🌈💕 4mo

Branwen @BookInMyHands Thank you so much! 💕 @ravenlee I have actually not heard of either of these! 😲 But they look/sound amazing! Thank you so much! I'm going to check and see if we have them! 4mo
ravenlee You‘re welcome! I enjoyed them both. What I really loved about Star-Crossed is at the beginning, the main character‘s two friends are bugging her about how she HAS to like somebody, and it‘s so weird that she doesn‘t. Such a middle school thing! I hope you find them. 4mo
ravenlee And Wonders has a teenage boy/boy relationship that is important but isn‘t the point, and I feel like we need more of that - characters who are gay/bi/etc. but that‘s just a part of their story. 4mo
Branwen @ravenlee Yes! I totally agree! I think it's so important for young people (and everyone really) to have books like that available to them! 🤗💕 4mo
MicheleinPhilly I love everything about this post. Happy Pride! 4mo
Clare-Dragonfly Huzzah for libraries! 💙💜💕 4mo
Chrissyreadit @ravenlee I agree- but I also prefer romance that is secondary in a story. @Branwen I think teens today have safer space. My daughter is bi and so are many of her friends. I can‘t imagine that freedom when I was a teen even in NYC where gay Pride was more common and supported. Thankful for libraries and books that support and educate. 4mo
KirstieE This is so lovely !! Well done 👏🏻💜 4mo

Just finished this book on a lazy, rainy Sunday. I had seen the movie first, so perhaps my expectations were already a little higher. The movie and book are different, but I like that we get a little more of post-relationship Simon here. It was well balanced in terms of the portrayal of teenage drama. I probably would have enjoyed it more if I were the target audience. #viloniareads #lgbtbooks #vhsreads #ya
