I absolutely love Hobb‘s Realm of the Elderlings series. This was the final book of the Tawny Man Trilogy, and the 9th in the 16 book series. Hobb‘s writing is so enjoyable and I always feel as though I‘m visiting with old friends. She has a tendency to put her characters through the worst, but things mostly turn out fine in the end. Realm of the Elderlings as a series is far better than The Wheel of Time IMO. Start at the beginning. 5⭐️ #2019

rretzler And did I mention, it has dragons! πŸ‰ 5mo
TrishB Best fantasy series ever! 5mo
rretzler @TrishB I think I would have to agree, although I'm also partial to A Song of Ice and Fire! I've been trying to read Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time series because it was voted one of the best 100 novels/series on the Great American Read. I'm on the 4th book, and to me, it pales in comparison with Realm. I can't connect to the characters and the writing falls flat in comparison to Hobbs! (and Martin and Bujold) 5mo
See All 7 Comments
readingjedi I'm currently reading Royal Assassin and I'm hysterically excited to know I've got so much more to come. What is the next trilogy? 5mo
rretzler @readingjedi After the Farseer Trilogy, there is the Liveship Traders Trilogy, which is about a different set of characters. I actually liked it slightly better than Farseer. But then I liked the Tawny Man Trilogy, which goes back to the Farseer characters even better than Liveship! It‘s a fantastic series! Next up for me is the Rain Wild Chronicles, which goes back to the Liveship characters. Don‘t skip the non-Farseer trilogies. Happy reading 5mo
rretzler @readingjedi The Fitz and The Fool Trilogy rounds out the overall series. The last book in it was published in 2017. I‘m really looking forward to the last 7 books! 5mo

As with all Hobb's series set in this world, I enjoyed every moment. I read the series out of order, (after The Farseer Trilogy I actually skipped to Fitz and the Fool), but am happy to have went back to read this trilogy. I think I may buy these books so I can revisit these characters.

I finished! I don‘t know why it took me so long to get through this, other than maybe not wanting the trilogy to end. Robin Hobb is such a master of fantasy. I love Fitz and the Fool, they are among my favourite fictional characters. I‘m so glad there is another trilogy to follow this one (must read the Rain Wild Chronicles first though!) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

PS - Does anyone else picture Christopher Lee as Chade?

Kalalalatja So glad you liked it! 1y
TrishB I wasn‘t but I am now πŸ‘πŸ» I have always pictured The Fool as Bowie, Man who fell to earth style....and read an interview with Hobb the other day where she said the she always pictured him as early Bowie!!! πŸ’• I‘m jealous that you still have so many to read. 1y

This book is telling me to #layallyourloveonme or you‘ll never finish! I love Robin Hobb, and this series, but I‘m dragging my feet on this one for no apparent reason. It‘s time to push all other books aside and focus solely on this one. Fitz and the Fool deserve my full attention!

So people - what‘s your thoughts on reading a series....do you read all the books in one go, maintaining momentum or do you space it out over time??? #readingadvice

susanw I usually space out. Because, once they are done, there‘s nothing left to look forward to. But, I have torn through the odd series... so I guess I‘m no help. 1y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled These look fun! I kinda space them out until I lose interest πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ 1y
DrexEdit If partly depends on whether the whole series is available yet! I have a list of series that I'm reading that either aren't done or are ongoing. So I probably fall more in the "breaking up the reading" group. 1y
See All 25 Comments
erzascarletbookgasm I space them out too πŸ™‚ 1y
DGRachel It really depends on the series, how may books are out, and my mood. If it‘s just a trilogy and all the books are out, there‘s a good chance I‘ll binge it. If it‘s a long running series and/or all the books aren‘t out, then I‘ll space them out so I don‘t get sick of the books. I had a bad experience with Sue Grafton‘s alphabet books and I still can‘t pick up another one without feeling all ragey. 1y
Mitch Ive tended to be a fan of spacing things out @susanw too...but then I‘ve kinda forgotten a bit of the nuance of stuff when I‘ve gone back for book 2/3....... 1y
Mitch Ive tended to be a fan of spacing things out @susanw and @erickas_flyleafunfurled too...but then I‘ve kinda forgotten a bit of the nuance of stuff when I‘ve gone back for book 2/3....... 1y
Mitch When youve spaced things out guys - ever used an audio copy of the previous book to update you / get you back into it before moving on? @DrexEdit @erzascarletbookgasm ? (edited) 1y
Mitch @DGRachel I‘ve not binged a series yet - feel that I might plan to do that during a long winter weekend! 1y
DGRachel I have definitely used audiobooks to refresh my memory of some books when the next in the series comes out (I know I wasn‘t tagged in that question, but I had to weigh in πŸ˜‚) 1y
Mitch @DGRachel yeah I was going to use my audible credit to refresh me on an NK Jemisin book that I read book 1 and then have left it too long! 1y
Reviewsbylola I am so bad about finishing series but when I usually take a break in between. 1y
robinb If it‘s complete I prefer reading it all straight through to keep it fresh on my mind. But occasionally, if I run across a really good one, I‘ll get hooked and read up to what‘s available. It also depends on my backlog for reviews...sometimes I don‘t have the time then to read them all together. 1y
Caroline2 Hmm, depends! If I get addicted then I‘ll read em all! I did that with the A court of thorn and roses series! I read em all straight through! πŸ‘πŸ» 1y
wanderinglynn If I like the first book, I tend to get all of them and binge read. 1y
Kalalalatja I can‘t stop myself once I get going! 1y
Mitch Good to know @wanderinglynn and @Kalalalatja I think I‘ve been to strict with myself ! πŸ˜‚ 1y
Mitch @Reviewsbylola that‘s kinda what prompted the thinking! I‘ve got so many series started but not finished, I wondered if I was in good company! 1y
Mitch @Caroline2 I‘m already seeing a great solo diy reading staycation in the cards! 1y
Maewyn If there is a long period between books in a series and the details have become fuzzy I often go to Wikipedia and read through the plot summary of the previous books for a refresher. 1y
Mitch @Maewyn πŸ‘πŸΌ 1y
CouronneDhiver I‘ve never finished a series before... πŸ™Š 1y
Mitch @CouronneDhiver oh no! We should help you fix that! 😁 1y
CouronneDhiver I usually get fed up half way through... πŸ˜‚ Also, it seems like many series are from genres I don‘t reach for often - fantasy, romance, mystery. 1y
tonyahoswalt I'd prefer to read them all together if they're all already out. 1y

I‘ve been absent from Litsy for the past few days. I had been in a major reading rut, but I think Final Girls has pulled me out of it. Life is busy at the moment, however, and I‘ve been spending too much of my free time on social media. It‘s time to cut back, and that includes Litsy πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ. If you need me I‘ll be over here curled up with a Robin Hobb novel, trying to stay off my phone!

Andrew65 Good luck with that. 😊 I know the feeling, been away for a few days and only touched base with Litsy. 2y

Kalalalatja @Theeclecticreader she is really great! So I do genuinely like this books (Tears We Cannot Stop). I will say I feel uncomfortable with/dislike the constant reference to preaching and sermonizing. I get it... I'm just personally allergic to religion. ANYWAY can anyone who has read lots of Robin Hobb tell me why I keep getting super distracted that he keeps calling the reader(s) beloved??

Mariposa_Bookworm Is this supposed to be fantasy? 3y
heikemarie @Mariposa_Bookworm the book pictures is nonfiction - Tears We Cannot Stop. The reference to Beloved is from the book I tagged. 3y
Mariposa_Bookworm Gotcha. It's a weird attempt at a biblical allusion. It's one of those things that would disrupt my reading flow. 3y
heikemarie @Mariposa_Bookworm Yes, he's created a book to mirror the structure of a sermon, and lots of ministers refer to their flock as beloved 😬 it has a special significance in the Fitz and the Fool books from Robin Hobb! Distracting for me as well. 3y
