I read this for the #SwordandLaser Feb bookclub pick. I'm hesitant to admit I felt ambivalent about this book, as it is a much beloved classic. I think I might have enjoyed it more as a kid, but reading it as an adult the good vs evil theme is just too heavy handed to be enjoyable to me. However, I wasn't really in to 'portal fantasy' as a kid either. (Would you call this portal fantasy, as outlined by Mendlesohn, 2008? There's a debate.) (C)

I'm starting A Wrinkle in Time for the February #SwordandLaser bookclub pick. I've never read this classic and I'm pretty excited to go into it with 0 knowledge. (It's hard to remain 100% ignorant on classics.)

I enjoyed this book and I might continue on with the series. However, I had a couple issues. First, I felt nothing for the love plot and it took away from the rest of the story for me. Second, there were a lot of clichés and at times it was simply too predictable. However, the world itself was great and I do want to learn more about it.

I'll take my Kindle to my uncle's Superbowl party but there's seven small children in my family right now. I can't imagine having any focus. 😂 I don't think that Superbowl wins by default though; I'll probably be playing with all the kids. 😄

My #LitsyAvatar is a picture my fiancé took at Loch Lomond a couple years back when we were still long distance and I was visiting him in Scotland.

I visited him later that year again for the holidays and took a video of him in a pub singing, 'The Bonnie Banks o' Loch Lomond' on NYE.

When we were apart again, singing that song and remembering our trip was a source of comfort until I got into a school there for postgraduate studies.

Okay, so I'm rating this as a pick because for me it was but I want to emphasise that these books are probably only alright if you come in with an interest in #Forgottenrealms.

I had the same issue with this book as I did with the first in the sextet. Things splintered off into so many points of views that involved factions and history I was unfamiliar with. It also tied in with another series that I had not read.

My sister and I bought a bundle of A1 Spanish stories yesterday that we've been reading together. We both studied Spanish years ago and instead of drills to relearn, we're going through these books. The author, Paco Ardit, has Spanish novels on Amazon for all CEFR levels, so I plan to work my way up.

The kindle saves every vocab word I have to look up into 'vocabulary builder' list with flashcards.

1.) I read Tuck Everlasting as a kid and threw the book when I read the ending. The themes of life and death were just hard for me to conceptualize - still makes me sad.
2.) Polka dots - I have quite a few black and white polka dotted dresses.

I really enjoyed this book and the problems I had with the first were mostly absent. I did feel lost once or twice, but the plot was much tighter. The pacing improved as well. The development of the characters is really one of the highlights of the books - every character feels so fleshed out to me.

I wholeheartedly recommend this series to fantasy fans. On to book three! ✊

A major character in this book has the catch-phrase, 'Shit and ashes!' and I really would love for this to be a swear in the real world. Can we make shit and ashes happen?

Also, this character is a half-devil so there''s some part of me that can't help but hum 'half-devil Lorcan' in my head to the sound of Half-Demon Inuyasha.

So I've seen a lot of people posting their Kindles here. I was wondering if you guys thought it would be a good investment for me if I already have my phone for reading (though tiny screen) and a tablet (Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1, bit heavy and not like holding a book).

Snowy day here near Glasgow; perfect for cuddling up with a blanket and book. My kitten Morgana is really into the weather too and just sits on the windowsill looking out.

I'm just relaxing with my book today before a busy week! (Still chipping away at 'Lesser Evils'. I don't read as quickly as most of you here!) Saturday I'm flying home to Missouri for a couple weeks, so I thought I'd give the #24in48 a try.

My first read of 2018! 1/52

I've recently started playing #DnD and I wanted to get into the #ForgottenRealms lore. (I've played some of the games and read the Dark Elf Trilogy over a decade ago.)

I really liked this book overall. I think towards the second half it was a bit slow at times and I was pretty overwhelmed with all the different factions. However, that was likely due to me being a relative newcomer to the setting.

On to book two!
