Smitten Kitchen Every Day
Smitten Kitchen Every Day: Triumphant and Unfussy New Favorites | Deb Perelman
29 posts | 6 read | 19 to read
Deb Perelman, award-winning blogger and New York Times best-selling author of The Smitten Kitchen Cookbook, understands that a happy discovery in the kitchen has the ability to completely change the course of your day. Whether were cooking for ourselves, for a date night in, for a Sunday supper with friends, or for family on a busy weeknight, we all want recipes that are unfussy to make with triumphant results. Deb thinks that cooking should be an escape from drudgery. Smitten Kitchen Every Day: Triumphant and Unfussy New Favorites presents more than one hundred impossible-to-resist recipesalmost all of them brand-new, plus a few favorites from her websitethat will make you want to stop what youre doing right now and cook. These are real recipes for real peoplepeople with busy lives who dont want to sacrifice flavor or quality to eat meals theyre really excited about. Youll want to put these recipes in your Forever Files: Sticky Toffee Waffles (sticky toffee pudding you can eat for breakfast), Everything Drop Biscuits with Cream Cheese, and Magical Two-Ingredient Oat Brittle (a happy accident). Theres a (hopelessly, unapologetically inauthentic) Kale Caesar with Broken Eggs and Crushed Croutons, a Mango Apple Ceviche with Sunflower Seeds, and a Grandma-Style Chicken Noodle Soup that fixes everything. You can make Leek, Feta, and Greens Spiral Pie, crunchy Brussels and Three Cheese Pasta Bake that tastes better with brussels sprouts than without, Beefsteak Skirt Steak Salad, and Bacony Baked Pintos with the Works (as in, giant bowls of beans that you can dip into like nachos). And, of course, no meal is complete without cake (and cookies and pies and puddings): Chocolate Peanut Butter Icebox Cake (the icebox cake to end all icebox cakes), Pretzel Linzers with Salted Caramel, Strawberry Cloud Cookies, Bake Sale Winning-est Gooey Oat Bars, as well as the ultimate Party Cake Builderfour one-bowl cakes for all occasions with mix-and-match frostings (bonus: less time spent doing dishes means everybody wins). Written with Debs trademark humor and gorgeously illustrated with her own photographs, Smitten Kitchen Every Day is filled with what are sure to be your new favorite things to cook.

Didn't think to take a pic of my Dutch baby with creamed mushrooms last night when it came out of the oven but it makes pretty leftovers too. #lunchbreakreadingbreak

And that‘s a wrap!! Another @DeweysReadathon in the books! 🎉🎉📚📚 I finished two books and started a third, and also spent a chunk of time reading two of my cookbooks.

Quite happy with my hours, considering all the other things I did yesterday. Happy Sunday, Littens! And congrats to all those who participated - big or small goals - it‘s always a fun time!

Doing #feedareader shopping this weekend. @Rachel.Rencher let me know if there is a book(s) your dying for! My notes say cheese grater and piping stuff, still yeah or nay? ? Anything special you need/want!

Rachel.Rencher Oh my gosh how sweet of you to reach out! 🙈 I got a wonderful piping kit in my last box so I'm all set there. A couple books that have been on my radar are Without Merit - Colleen Hoover, Americanah - Adichie and Big Little Lies - Moriarty. Any one of those would be lovely, or surprise me! 🤓 Thank you again!! ❤ 1y
benchley1 @Rachel.Rencher of course! If you think if any wants this week let me know!! Otherwise I'll try my best😉 1y
benchley1 @Rachel.Rencher should say any OTHER wants. Thanks for the book options! 1y

Leftover soup for lunch on this sunny but cool day.

The recipe is from the tagged cookbook: Spiced carrot and pepper soup with a couscous swirl.

#booksandlunch #cookbook

EvieBee Looks delish! 🍲 1y
Tamra Yum! 1y
4thhouseontheleft @EvieBee The couscous really makes it!! Otherwise, it is a little boring. 😃 It‘s seasoned with harissa, ginger, cumin and a touch of cinnamon, next time I think I will add more harissa than the recipe called for. 1y

A little pre-book breakfast club (since neither of us has read the book we picked yet but didn‘t want to put off breakfast any longer 💁). Super simple recipe for loaded breakfast potato skins in the latest Smitten Kitchen cookbook, but I‘m a fan of pretty much everything in the book anyway ... I switched out sour cream and bacon for hollandaise and fried squash.

Second recipe made from this book, which is due back at the library tomorrow. My favorite line in the directions re the cooled brittle: “lift it off in one pleasing sheet and break into chunks.” ❤️

NYE lunch from this book and it was delicious. Pork Tenderloin Agrodolce with Squash Rings. It was my first Deb Perelman recipe (even though I own her first book. Because Cookbook Hoarder. #sorrynotsorry) but it won‘t be my last. This book was borrowed from the library but I‘ll likely break down and buy it. Picture of finished dish on my Instagram.

AlaMich You should check out her blog, smittenkitchen.com, if you don‘t already. I love it, especially when she posts pix of her adorable kids. 2y

Lola @ghosthost I used the butternut squash I had in the house for the tenderloin recipe but will definitely try the galette at some point! 2y

What is the best kind of book? The kind where you get to chat with the author about going to Italy for food, Kansas City BBQ and just hear about her methods in general for recipe development (lots of testing, thank goodness). Adored seeing Deb Perelman live today. Love me some Smitten Kitchen.

Kaylamburson Deb Perelman is such a genuine person! I loved hearing her speak! 2y
brennahawleycraig @Kaylamburson she seemed sooo relatable! I‘m so glad she‘s been so successful! 2y
Kaylamburson Completely agree! I'm not a cook at all, but she made it seem like I could become one if I wanted to. I think she said she didn't really cook at all in her twenties. 2y

Browsing one of the two cookbooks I picked up at Costco this week while enjoying a mildly spiked hot cocoa: Trader Joe‘s organic hot cocoa, a splash of Grand Marnier, and a cinnamon stick, topped with a vanilla marshmallow. Yum!

I made one of the recipes for lunch and had lots of happy bellies: Winter slaw with farro. I ❤️ The smitten kitchen blog, and this cookbook looks great, too!

Count me among Deb Perelman's most loyal fans. (I couldn't even tell you the number of her recipes that have become family favorites.) With incredible charm & a passion for cooking, Perelman shares recipes for food that you really want to eat. Her new collection is fille with over a hundred recipes for everything from breakfast to dinner to dessert. I've just started cooking from it and have already found so many new family favorites! - S.B.

AmyG Her brown butter rice krispie treats are the BEST. I can‘t wait to pick up this cookbook. 2y

Tamra @Cinfhen did you get it? I am so tempted! 2y
Cinfhen It was on my Hanukah #wishlist but it never came @Tamra 😫😫im waiting for a coupon and free shipping 😉 2y
Tamra @Cinfhen 🤨 Need to have a word with the Hanukkah fairies about that oversight. Coupons? I want coupons! I did an enormous cookbook cull this spring and I will only replace with ones I will really use - not just pretty to drool over. So, this one sounds like it may fit the bill. 2y
Cinfhen Let me know if you order it @Tamra I agree, pretty pics just aren't enough !! And yes, the Hanukkah Fairy totally messed up!!! Not one single book!!!!! 😡 2y
Tamra @Cinfhen don‘t feel bad. The only only books I received for Xmas were from Mrs. Claus, but I have a direct line to her so that‘s not really the same as a Santa surprise. 😂 2y
