In the end, I didn't DNF this, but I was skimming a bit after about halfway. The portrayal of Vera feels like a mess of stereotypes, and I couldn't quite believe in the found family stuff because it's *true* that Vera made an awful mess of everything, and could have really harmed her “suspects“. The feel-good ending didn't quite feel earned, especially since the actual culprit was so very unhappy.

shanaqui I also guessed the murderer even though they're barely mentioned for most of the book. It felt so obvious from the way the story slyly peeped at them. 20h

I get why people like this but I'm finding it very cringe, and contemplating a DNF. It's sort of embarrassment squick, I guess?

Also I see now why there's so many POV characters (albeit third person limited), but I still don't have to like it.

Finally getting started on this, since the library want their book back (how dare). So far kinda thrown by how many POV characters there are...

I like the Brooklyn Wainwright series better than this one. Shannon is a contractor who goes on a bad date, and people start turning up dead — people she doesn‘t like — and they are murdered with her tools. Shannon and her friends (and enemies) are quite immature; they‘re in their 30s but still have high school drama going on. The killer‘s motive was incredibly weak. We‘re also set up for a love triangle. Bleck. #audiowalk

It was hardly ideal weather for the resurrection of one‘s great-aunt, but Sera Swan‘s magical power, while impressive, hadn‘t the slightest influence over the obnoxiously blue skies.

This was my bedtime book and it's perfect to read if you need to calm down. It does have romance elements, but if you're in the mood for some romance romance, this is not it. Another point that makes this book different. The magic system is also very interesting. And it's a book for people who love music 🎵🎶💖

I'm shocked that I enjoyed this as much as I did. There were places where I giggled. It was truly funny. The serious parts were written without banter. Touching, charming, a good read. I only chose it for the prompt. I would never have picked it up on my own. Good gravy, I love reading challenges. Seven sins in title ##SPNBOOKBINGO2025 @OutsmartYourShelf

OutsmartYourShelf That's a good one for the prompt. Brilliant 🎃🎃 3d
