Not the best book, but it did keep me reading...
Plans for the rest of the night. This was my #botm pick from March 2018 🤦♀️
When one of the neighbors of a bucolic neighborhood in Yellow Springs and her two children go missing after a night of fun, the other neighbors are left with more questions than answers. Rather than a fast paced thriller, this is more of a slow suspenseful burn. Even if the reader can see it coming, you still have to keep reading to find out what happens. Female friendships, marriage and family are at the center of this story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 /5
It is an absolutely gorgeous day today! I finished what work I needed to do and took myself to my favorite reading spot. I love having the birds and bugs as my audio background when I read. ❤️📚☀️
I am quite curious as to where this story is going. Hoping to finish today.
I wouldn't exactly call this a thriller. I guess I'd say it's dark women's fiction, tho I'm not usually thrilled w/ catagorizing books as for women. But in this case it rings true. This book is about women. Their friendships & vulnerabilities, their fears, insecurities, & strengths. I liked all these women even those we don't get to know as well. Izzy was my fave & I feared for her for a while. I admired Clara from first to last. Solid story. ⬇️
It started off well but soon became a run-of-the-mill domestic drama. The bad guy was obvious, & Izzy was unbelievably naive. 3⭐️
“She still hadn‘t worked out how 1950s housewives had done it, but she suspected it involved far more ignoring of the children and far less guilt in doing so.”
“How much nicer the world could be if people who didn‘t know what they were talking about would keep their mouths shut.”
This was a #botm pick sometime last year and I loved it. It‘s on sale today on Kindle and Apple Books so I figured I‘d share!
I guess my brief flirtation with going back to reading thriller/suspense novels is over! It‘s just not my genre. I said if I could put this down for 24 hours, I‘d bail. Now, I‘m involved in three other books I‘m enjoying more. 🤷🏻♀️ This #botmbacklog is headed to the library sale!
This book wasn‘t what I was expecting but it was a very good read! I did have an idea of what was going on not too far into the book but there were still some aspects of the plot that surprised me. I would certainly be open to reading more from this author! #botm
A decent enough beach read about a wife and mother who disappeared without a trace.
Not sure how much kids are appreciating track practice in the heat tonight, but as an outdoor reading spot I rate it A+.
“You‘ll find there are a lot of things in life that could be cleared up with a simple explanation, but never are.”
Finished this one up on my morning commute. Overall a pick, though nothing groundbreaking. I was left satisfied by the ending and how it was drawn to a close 🌟🌟🌟 1/2 🤷🏼♀️
Free Starbucks to enjoy while I listen to my audiobook....why not?! #
If you would have asked me a few years ago how I felt about audiobooks I would have definitely told you I prefer to read print. But life happens. And I‘m a busy mom. So this format has become my go to when it comes to getting my reading fix! Just starting this one at work today!
In the middle of reorganizing my bookshelves. Started to feel reallllll over it. Pondered how understanding the nonreading husband would be when he comes home to lots and lots of piles of books in the floor. Was weighing my options when I stumbled on this gentle reminder of why the hell I need to organize my books 😐😒 1/3
Been doing a lot of #audiostitching in my downtime lately. I‘m not usually a huge audiobook person (hard to focus) but this seems to be what I‘m in the mood for! What are you listening to today?
This was my first book by this author she had me so hooked and I can't wait to read more of her work!
I wouldn‘t go out of my way to rec this one. The story was predictable and it seems to be attempting what I call “Gone Girl Lite.” It has all the twisty elements of Gone Girl (missing wife, slimey husband) that make you stay up reading, but without the unreliable narrators, psychopathic behavior, or any semblance of a real mystery.
A story of women in the neighborhood, relationships, and their impact is explored in this story surrounding the incident of a missing woman and her children. This was a fun, quick read that was perfect for the long flight back from England last night.
A woman and her two children go missing after a neighborhood bbq. This was a fun who done it mystery that I flew through in a couple of hours!
Finished. Whew. I refused to give up but after finishing I feel like I could have. Definitely not my style and I just kept waiting for something that never arrived. In the figurative sense. I've heard great things about this author so maybe I just started with the wrong book.
Finally getting back to this one. Trying to beat the #bookmail I know is coming from this month's #botm. #anxiety #theimpatientsideeffect
It‘s pouring rain, the windows are open, and Miss Bailey and I are enjoying some snuggle time.
Just finished book #3 of my #botmbacklog. This fell between a 3-4 for me. I hate when books are compared to books that I love, because they just never quite live up to the hype, and this was definitely not Big Little Lies. It was entertaining, if a bit predictable. Overall, I enjoyed it.
The only bright side to a sick day... I can get some reading in. #bookandbath #botmbacklog
I‘m watching my nephew this evening while my sil is at a board meeting. He‘s tired from his first day at kindergarten, so I‘m reading & he‘s watching some weird kid YouTube videos... 🙄😂 #botmbacklog
I was hooked at the beginning. It is very well done and there is a twist at the end.
#botmbacklog #3 will be accompanying me to the hospital this morning! Not sure how much of it I‘ll get through today, but hopefully it will move pretty quickly!
August 5: #bookstagramreadsAugust— Favorite color: Purple!! 💜💜💜
I received this #BOTM pick through a giveaway. It was ok. I expected it to be more of a thriller/suspense than it was. Good characters but the storyline was predictable.
This was a solid book, reminded me of Lianne Moriarity. Never saw that ending coming.
Beach books 5 and 6 (I have one more I started that I hope to post about tomorrow). Not That I Could Tell (a #botm pick!) was SO compelling—a perfect beach read. And Mongrels was great: really different (real and gritty) werewolf novel.
I really liked this authors last book, so have high hopes on this one.
I was truly disappointed in how quickly I figured out the ending of this book. It was still and interesting story with intriguing characters but I was not on the edge of my seat as expected.
Sunday project 😍 absolutely LOVE my new reading space! Completely transformed my back patio, and I‘m SO pleased with how this area turned out! 💪🏼📚
I think I would have liked this better if I hadn't expected it to be a mystery. There is a mystery at its heart -- what happened to Kristen and what did the neighbors know -- but it's more about the neighborhood dynamics. Good enough for a summer read. I didn't completely buy the resolution but I also didn't care enough to look back to see. I also just read The Perfect Mother, which has similar themes and was more suspenseful.
This was a good story involving the relationships between a group of neighbors and the ramifications when one of them goes missing. This book was marketed as a mystery but should fall under general fiction. There is no great mystery. It was obvious to me exactly what happened. There is a small ‘surprise‘ at the end of the novel but it was more sweet than shocking. It was a solid story with s good message.
Hoping all the comparisons to Liane Moriarty are accurate ☀️📖🏡
Finally made it to the pool! Our new house is in a great development with an even bigger pool! Love it!
