Little Old Lady Who Broke All the Rules | Catharina Ingelman-Sundberg

I couldn‘t finish this one. It‘s about a group of older people who try to do crime to prove they‘re smart, but they‘re just written as being so silly that I can‘t follow it. I think it‘s just not for me.

I was annoyed by the lead for most of the book. His obsession with the killer and how he seemed to have no accountability to any of the other patients at the asylum irritated me. I was curious about the story enough to stick with it, but overall I‘d give it a so-so.

I really wanted to like this one, a murder mystery set in a Taipei market. But I got 45% in and still hadn‘t gotten to the mystery- just a lot of description about the Taipei market, and the lead‘s love of the band Joy Division. Moving on to other things now..

I have very mixed feelings about this one. On one hand, I did not connect to the more spiritual elements of the book, that‘s not how my brain works. On the other hand, I did like the method of going through all you have in a category, like clothes, at once in one big day of sorting. I usually don‘t clear out clutter like that and it sounded like a good idea.

I just could not get through this one, it felt like it was way over my head the whole time. I liked the idea in theory, but only got about 30% through before giving up, I just couldn‘t follow what was happening.

Redwritinghood I just finished it today and felt it mostly made no sense whatsoever. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 1mo

I totally get the comparisons to Bridget Jones, but this one felt much deeper to me. It covers some really serious topics, but still keeps things light enough that you can get through the tough bits. Definitely recommend this one!

I really like this sequel! You definitely have to read The Awkward Squad first, she does not reintroduce the characters in this one and it took me a bit to remember everyone. A good mystery that goes into the lead detective‘s history.

I really like the idea of downsizing, the older I get the less stuff I need. The author spent a year not buying new things other than groceries and toiletries. It was interesting to follow her journey.

A little slow to start, especially if you don‘t know Mythology very well. As the story moved along, I was more and more drawn in- I whipped through the last third of the book. At the back of the kindle edition is a description of each of the gods/mythological creatures- I almost wish I‘d read that fist. Overall a very interesting story with a strong female lead.

Part 1 of this book was great, the true story of two idealistic couples that end up on an isolated atoll at the same time and only one couple leaves the island. Then you hit Part 2- written by one of the defense attorneys. This portion is way too long and self-congratulatory. I recommend reading the first part and skipping the second part- you can look everything up on the internet to see the results of the court cases!

I enjoyed this mystery set in an art museum in LA. On the night of her grand opening, the artist goes missing. Told from the point of view of a museum employee, whose personal history sometimes colors her ideas on what happened. There are also some interesting commentary on being a single career oriented woman.

I always love Louise Penny books, her cast of characters and the imagery of the small town is wonderful. I liked this mystery too, though I had figured it out part way through so it was a bit less thrilling for me. Also, for this one I would recommend reading the previous book first as there is some story lines that carry through. Overall still a fun read!

Litlady Best reading buddy ever! What a cutie. I‘ve had Louise Penny on my list forever. Should I start with ‘Still Life‘? Thanks for the friend request, btw. 😊📚 6mo
AshleyC816 @Litlady I don‘t think you have to start with Still Life, I started with The Nature of the Beast and loved it! Kingdom of the Blind in particular has a major story line that carries through from the previous book. I really enjoy this series, you pretty much can‘t go wrong! 6mo

This was a pretty good murder mystery, but I am a bit tired of the alcoholic unreliable narrator. I actually would really love to have read this with another character - the murder unit lead as the main narrator-she seems much more interesting! There were a few twists that kept my interest so, overall a pic!
