Curiouser and Curiouser: Steampunk Alice in Wonderland
Curiouser and Curiouser: Steampunk Alice in Wonderland | Melanie Karsak
21 posts | 9 read | 42 to read
To save the Hatter, Alice must work with the one man she despises so much that she might still love him.

Alice thought she'd turned over a new leaf. No more working for Jabberwocky. No more making deals with the ruthless Queen of Hearts. No more hanging around The Mushroom with tinkers, tarts, scoundrels, and thieves in London's criminal underbelly. But she'd been bonkers to dream.
Hatter's reckless behavior leads Alice back to the one person she never wanted to see again, Caterpillar. Pulled into Caterpillar's mad schemes, Alice must steal a very big diamond from a very royal lady. The heist is no problem for this Bandersnatch. But protecting her heart from the man she once loved? Impossible.

Sigh! I think of all the Alice in Wonderland retelling‘s I‘ve read this past week this might be my favorite as far as stand-alone books go! Love the steampunk elements as well as the clever way she told her own Alice story! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #fairytaleretellings #aliceinwonderland

Late review. This was my first #AliceInWonderland pick for the #FairytaleReadingChallenge. And my first steampunk novel. This was an interesting retelling of Alice in Wonderland. Great for readers who like their fairytales a little dark.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was great. The story did not follow the original book, but there so many nods to it in the character names, location names, paraphrased quotes and even some of the originalink drawings that are so well known. I enjoyed the steampunk element and look forward to reading more of her retellings

An Alice in Wonderland retelling with steampunk feel, I loved it! I did feel that some character descriptions were a lacking however the storyline, world building and romance made up for it! I loved dark feel, and the steampunk side of it, I wish there were more steampunk aspects to it or more description of it to make it just that little bit better, but either way I still enjoyed it. The pace was fast and I liked the glimpses into Alice's past.

With this one it was a lot less Alice in Wonderland than I expected 🤔 pick is maybe a little strong, but it's too good for so-so. Very enjoyable read, with some dark elements I didn't see coming right away. Moved away from the original story but tied itself in at times to keep the spirit alive. Not so much a steampunk version as it was a completely alternative retelling. Definately enjoyed reading it though ❤💜💙

JosieG I definitely feel like they need an option between "Pick" and "So-So" because quite a few books fall in that grey area. 6y

Wow! @Elle_Skeldon you went above and beyond! I love everything in this package (can‘t wait to try the coffee and popcorn). I have not read either book and have both on my TBR. The Alice retelling is high on the list too. Super excited for that one. And it‘ll be nice to delve into the Jeter, a classic and basis for the genre. I love the bookmark from my favorite steampunk series... so far... Parasol Protectorate! ⬇️

Mollyanna I am totally framing the coffee percolator design for my kitchen, and I have a feeling that I just got a new favorite coffee cup. Everything was perfect. Thank you so much. I can‘t even begin to express my appreciation for your thoughtfulness ☺️ 6y

ElleSkel I am so happy you like it all! It was so much fun to put together. I was on the edge of my seat waiting for you to open it ! I hope the coffee is good, I have never had it but it smelled SOOO strong. The Highlander Grogg is delish btw! Thanks again. (edited) 6y
Mollyanna As soon as I finish the current coffee I‘ve got Koffee Kult is up next. It does smell good! Glad you like the Highlander Grogg. I love Berres coffee and it‘s local to my area. I can‘t wait to start the Alice book 😄 6y

This turned to be such a fun book! We have Alice retelling everywhere but this is the first that goes light in the fantasy and instead leans more towards contemporary and sci-if. I love the steampunk elements but my favorite part is how well the story and characters of Alice meshed so well with a Victorian London setting that weaves it's way through back alleys and shady business dealings. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

Only about an hour and forty minutes left in this! I love the more contemporary take on Alice in Wonderland! I think this may be the only retelling of it that has taken much of the fantasy elements out and instead interject a more sci-if twist (steampunk). Excellent narration as well.

Started this today as well! I love that while it is obviously an Alice retelling, it still provides a completely unique experience. Really good so far!

✨I understand that publishers and editors aren't perfect and sometimes mistakes spilt through the cracks, but when there's a spelling error or grammatical error on every other page, it really does start to take away from the experience. 😔
✨I'm not trying to be the grammar police, but c'mon.. it's part of the job, no? 👀
✨It's a good book, aside from the mistakes and it being a little lackluster. Maybe I'm just a stickler. 🙈🙊

Leelee.reads I think it's a reasonable expectation that a published book be effectively edited. Definitely impacts the reading experience when it's full of errors. 7y
Birdsong28 It is reasonable to ask that most of the errors are rectified. I had a history book that was 200 years out of date in one chapter to the era it was talking about when it stated a date, it really put me off reading anything else by that author incase she did it again. Here's hoping she knows her dates as I have two other books yet to be read. 📖📚 7y
abbsinwonderland @Leelee.reads @Birdsong28 ahhh! I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thinks so. You'd think it'd be kind of common sense? 🙈 I get nervous saying how I feel sometimes on here because I'm already been told I'm rude and offensive. I was just sure this post would be another round of that. 🙊 7y

abbsinwonderland It's really hard to enjoy a book when I feel like I need to grab a red ink pen and fix their errors lol 7y
Birdsong28 @abbsinwonderland Always say what you feel if the auidence have a problem its some issue they have with themselves and that you've hit a nerve and they don't want to admit it. 📖📚 7y
SconsinBookyBadger You're in good company on this one. I've bailed on books that had obvious grammatical errors. 7y
