Pickpick

4.5 Stars • Alice (2015) by Christina Henry is a grim retelling of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. After a decade in an asylum, Alice, haunted by memories of a violent "tea party" and the sinister Rabbit, escapes with Hatcher, a fellow inmate. In the brutal Old City, they evade crime lords and face the monstrous Jabberwock, tied to Alice‘s traumatic past. As Alice uncovers her suppressed memories and emerging powers, she seeks vengeance.

I‘ll give this a pick, even though the ending made me drop my rating to 3.5. I liked the creativity of Alice going back. It was the feminine rage book I needed. But for being so short, the ending (which is built up from the beginning) did not need to be glossed over. That was frustrating.

That being said, if you ever find yourself yelling RIP EM APART BUNNY, while reading a book, you can‘t say it wasn‘t enjoyable. 😳

My friend, a huge Alice in Wonderland fan, gave me this book, saying it was horrid and gross… but maybe I would like it.

When I messaged her that my 🎃TBR spun it and I‘m picking it up to read, she responded with: ‘🤣 I hope it works for you.‘

Let‘s see how this goes! 🤣😳

Alice was beginning to get very tired of sitting by her sister on the bank, and having nothing to do: once or twice she had peeped into the book her sister was reading, but it had no pictures or conversations in it, 'and what is the use of a book,' thought Alice, ‘without pictures or conversation?'

What in the world? I've seen the Disney movie once, when I was a child but thought I should read the classic as an adult. So weird. Wonder if the manuscript was submitted today if it would even make it out of the publisher slush pile.

CarolynM Weird and wonderful. 2mo

Anyone who knows me knows my love of quotes. I keep a commonplace book full of them. So I thought, add a couple to my junk journal page regarding Alice in Wonderland. The concept started with the mini book (I have several duplicates of the Zaru Mini Book ones) and morphed from there. The two quotes, I printed off and matted and the jewel is a charm from Hobby Lobby. Think I might take more duplicates and work up pages for them as well

I went to The Chaumont Garden Festival on Sunday & had a fantastic time walking through all the gardens inspired by works of fiction (and all the others too!) This is the Alice in Wonderland one: not the greatest photo, unfortunately...
