A book authored by India's Shakespeare - Shashi Tharoor. This book, 'Tharoorosauraus' is a super cool version of your average Thesaurus.
The author introduces you to lesser known English words such as 'cwtch' (a warm, intimate hug) through lovely illustrations and riveting explanations of the word's origin and usage over the years.

You won't be able to put this down !
The plot, pace, the protagonists and the psycho they're chasing - all of them will keep you hooked till the very end.

Mehso-so

This is about writing a story that people are willing to pay to read.
Hmm. I know I am being harsh on the author but it felt like he wanted to replicate the success of War of Art by writing on the same subject (art of writing) and on a similar style but failed.

Turning Pro is about how you can be a professional writer. Frankly, I didn't enjoy it as much as War of Art written by the same author (Steven Pressfield)

You won't be missing much if you skip it.

It's written by the King of Horror, need I say any more ? :D
An author stuck with his wife and child in the evil Overlook Hotel, only a matter of time before the isolation and the sordid history of the Overlook messes up his mind...his helpless family has two devils to deal with - Jack Torrence (the crazed protagonist ) and the spirit of the depraved Overlook

Adventure + Archaeology is fun, everytime.
This story is about an ex military duo's quest for the Death relic of the Aztec Mayan fame. And yes, the clock is ticking , they need to find a missing archaeologist, fight the bad guys AND team up with unsavory characters to find a powerful piece of history.

P.S. If you like Clive Cussler / Dan Brown you'll like this too :)

Written in the first person, this book is like being inside a depressed, neurotic woman's head as she tries to make sense of a shifting reality while seeking the truth behind a woman's disappearance. Murder, adultery, a protagonist who has hit rock bottom - there are elements that keep you hooked till the very end.

A deeply moving story about the author's experience at a mental asylum where she overcomes depression, forms relationships and learns a thing or two about life.
TRIVIA - Susanna Kaysen (the author) and Sylvia Plath were at the same mental asylum.
There's a movie based on the book too starring Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie.
Rating - 4.5

megnews I saw the movie so I‘ve never read the book. I don‘t like doing it in that order. I ❤️ Winona Ryder. I forgot Angelina Jolie was in that. And that‘s an amazing trivia fact! 4y
Wordsling Yes, Winona is amazing. Loved her in Stranger things too. Thanks @megnews 4y

If you want to read a well researched, scientific novel on how habits are created and sustained, this is the book for you.
Although if you're looking for a lighter read on Habits, the book Atomic Habits is great.

I was going through a bad phase in life when I began reading it. It's a simple, easy to understand guide on how to cultivate happiness. I particularly enjoyed it although it did get a little pedantic at times.
Two ideas I picked up from this book are - expressing gratitude often and diversifying the sources of your happiness.
All in all, a good self help book.

The Bell Jar | Sylvia Plath

A gripping, heart wrenching account of a young girl named Esther who slips into depression as she grapples with different issues - a loss of identity, societal pressures and patriarchal norms.
This novel is a roman a clef or 'semi autobiographical' as it is based partly on the life of Sylvia Plath - a brilliant writer who killed herself by sticking her head in an oven.
Warning : Don't read this book if you're feeling low or battling depression.

If you want to be a writer but have been struggling to actually get any writing done, this book is meant for you ! It will shake you up and get you to grab a pen and paper and write (or open your laptop). I enjoyed it thoroughly. Also, it's a very short book - quick read.

Brilliant read indeed ! This book can help you stick to good habits and get rid of bad ones. It's a light, fun read filled with interesting accounts of 'habit' experiments. It helps you understand the 'simple science' behind cultivating a habit.
