I couldn‘t put this one down! Just like Big Little Lies, Moriarty does a wonderful job of switching between multiple points of view to keep you on your toes. Cecilia Fitzpatrick finds a letter containing her husband‘s darkest secret, meant to be read after he dies. In a Pandoric moment, uncovering this secret while he still lives turns her world upside-down. Would you open the letter if you saw it? Not gonna lie, I think I would 👀

Between paper books and audiobooks I‘m tackling my TBR! Enjoyed the holiday reads. The tagged was good. Second Moriarty. Liked how she showed how interconnected lives could be, and how one act or decision could impact many other lives.

CBee Which other Moriarty have you read? I also really liked 12mo
CBee @SW-T haven‘t read that one! Been a bit on the fence about it actually. Did you like? 12mo
SW-T @CBee I did, though I have to admit it was kinda quirky and weird in parts, but somehow it all worked, at least for me. What Alice Forgot looks interesting. I‘ll have to add it to my TBR. 12mo
CBee @SW-T cool! Maybe one of these days I‘ll read it 😄 12mo

This novel was fine. A little too tied-up-in-a-bow, but it worked as an audiobook on walks and doing housework and as a curl-up-on-the-couch paperback, although it was a challenge to shift between the two because the chapters don't line up between the two versions. Curious what other differences there are, but not curious enough to re-read.

Item 23 for the #litsybitsy scavenger hunt is "lane way." I'm not sure we have those in San Diego. This is the closest I've found so far. It smells like eucalyptus and sage.
? The Husband's Secret
? 4.99 miles
I'm alternating between the paperback and the audio for the tagged book and the chapters don't line up. Anyone know why that happens? Different editions for different countries, maybe?

"An inadvertent wife fiercely guarding her husband's secret. A socially phobic wife with her marriage in turmoil. A mother dead set on finding her daughter's murderer. And now their lives converge !"

Even though the plot is witty, biting, clever and interspersed with events evoking some worthwhile introspection, I couldn't help the feeling that some of the chapters were dragged out. Nevertheless an engrossing read.

Loved this audiobook!

Cecilia finds a letter from her husband that is only to be opened if he has died... what could be so horrible he couldn‘t just tell her? Can Cecilia really know this letter exists and not open it?

Could you?

Loved the characters, the ending, and the way each plot had a bit of a finishing line. If you‘re a fan of Moriarty, this should definitely be on your TBR list!

Pageturner1 now i have to read the book to find out. i love the suspense. 2y

Wow! I really flew through this one over the weekend! Haven‘t read a book that fast in a while! I‘m grateful to have a couple more Liane Moriarty books at my disposal! Enjoyed the characters and their arcs and am excited that this is supposed to be a movie with Blake Lively! Definitely a 4 star read. The epilogue was both comical and information supplying which helps explain the otherwise abrupt ending. I thought the book could‘ve kept going!

Moriarty has written a decent beach book here with three plot lines converging around a secret that it immediately obvious to the reader. The book‘s epilogue drops this from an okay pick to merely so-so. Full review at https://booknaround.blogspot.com/2020/01/review-husbands-secret-by-liane-moriart...

This plot was so similar to Big Little Lies (which I loved)that nothing really came as a surprise to me. I know it was written before Big Little Lies, but it doesn't change that I've read it the other way around.
The predictable plot and the somewhat annoying characters made this my most disappointing read thus far for this year.

Enchanted_Bibliophile @Scochrane26 I read BLL when it was first published. Back then it was a new genre and author and everything was just bright and shiny. Now I wonder how much those things influenced my liking of the book. 2y

I really enjoy Moriarty‘s writing. I‘ve long been an escapist reader - I loathe spending my leisure time immersed in how tragic and horrifying the world can be - but somehow what I love about LM is how real her characters are. They‘re all so relatable, which I‘ve learned lately is key for me to enjoy a book. This one, about how people move on (or don‘t) after tragedy, was heavy at times but still so interesting. Keeping this author on my radar.

I‘ll never forget this book takes place in autumn - it takes place around Easter but in Australia where the seasons are flipped from ours in North America. And someone complained on Goodreads about this “error” asking (with several typos) if no one edits books anymore 😶

#fallisbooked

marleed Oh that‘s funny. I was just talking about that book while at lunch with a friend yesterday. My mind has always seem ‘Santa‘ was sometimes on a surfboard. But my head had never considered Easter with the falling leaves. In fact, I‘ve had Easter and spring synonymous. It may be my most memorable LM takeaway because i just hadn‘t considered it! 2y

I read this The Husband‘s Secret back to back with Big Little Lies, and I enjoyed Big Little Lies more. I guess I felt more connection with the women. Although both books were written with the same formula.

The secret was easy to guess so I spent most of the book waiting for the inevitable event that would connect all 3 stories. I thought the epilogue was unnecessary. Who wants to know what might have been.

A woman finds an envelope, written in her husband‘s hand, and it says (*ominous music*): “For my wife, only to be opened in the event of my death”. But her husband is still very much alive, and he won‘t tell her what‘s inside. That's one heck of a premise! Moriarty's breakthrough novel wasn't without its problems, but still jaw-dropping in twists. Full review here: http://keepingupwiththepenguins.com/the-husbands-secret-liane-moriarty/ #Australian
