Klikspaan: wie zal de volgende zijn? | M.J. Arlidge
32 posts | 46 read | 22 to read

Thanks to these Litsy folks for today‘s prompt:

Today‘s Prompt: MARGINAL - “EDGY”

LIAR, LIAR was an anxious, MARGINAL/“EDGY”, non-stop read simply because of the frightening subject .  Every time I thought I knew who the arsonist was, I was wrong.

FEATURING: LIAR, LIAR by M. J. Arlidge

Four separate, deadly fires all within two days' time. Was it one person or was it a team? The police department was baffled.

You will also find out the meaning of the title which had me puzzled until the end.

Thanks for the tag @EadieB #wondrouswednesday 1. A quick read of a library book - tagged. 2. Tricky! Freddie from the winter ghosts (Kate Mosse) and Violet from a single thread (Tracy Chevalier). Common griefs and desperate to share their love. 3. I don‘t mind either but I do like lots of different storylines linking together like in Cloud Atlas or The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto

EadieB @Helen19 Thanks for playing! I like your answers! 4y

Today‘s Prompt: Liar

Four separate, deadly fires all within two days' time.

LIAR, LIAR was an anxious, edgy, non-stop read simply because of the frightening subject. Every time I thought I knew who the arsonist was, I was wrong.

The ending is outstanding, and quite a surprise.

You will also find out the meaning of the title, which had me puzzled until the end.

The fourth case for DI Helen Grace & her team revolves around arson. The case itself was fairly interesting but I felt that the writing is stagnating a bit.

The characters, especially Charlie, are repeating behaviours & there is no character development. Also what‘s with the negative view of single people? Disappointing. Rating: 2⭐️

MJ Arlidge has done it again! Liar Liar was much better than I had expected. I usually am all about dark, gruesome, twisted serial killer novels but this police procedural about an arsonist was just as interesting, addictive, & creepy. I kept wanting to know more as the book went on. Detective Helen Grace is favorite of mine. I can‘t wait to read the next one!

I had a hard time getting into Still Life by Louise Penny so I picked this one up instead! MJ Arlidge always starts the book with the right amount of suspense to get you hooked. I'm glad I switched reads because this one, as always with his books, has me hooked.

Definitely not the best book in the series but I still enjoyed it. The crime was so different from the other books in the series so far which really helped.
I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

What are you currently reading?
I started Liar Liar by MJ Arlidge the other day and I'm really enjoying it so far! It's been a lot more tame than the other books in the series up to this point, the crime isn't as unusual as some of the others Arlidge has come up with.

Another fantastic read in the Helen Grace series. Had me hooked straight from the start. Hadn't read anything for a while, hadn't had the time but knew this book would give me my reading mojo back. I can't recommend this author enough. Another fantastic read from M J Arlidge.

I've read 3 out of 4 in this set. Although I love the fact that Helen Grace is equal parts badass and future psych patient, I think this one had a solid beginning and end with a wasted middle. Triplicate crime scenes work for and against the story. The best parts are the dialogue and interviews of which there are far too few. I think I'll read one more before deciding whether to continue the series.

This series is addicting, though it's also the first time I thought I hit my "too dark" limit. But I continue because the mystery and characters are interesting.

I like it when I find random things tucked away in used books I've bought. It's fun to imagine the story behind them. This book's obviously travelled!

I'm really starting to enjoy Arlidge's Helen Grace series and this fourth entry is humming along so far a quarter way through.

This series started super strong, faltered a bit on book 3 (there was a lot of character introspection that felt contrived to me), and is mostly back on track with book 4. The mystery was as intriguing as ever, but there were some plot points that oddly led nowhere. Still very excited for book 5!
