Enjoying some classic reading while relaxing at the pool in Phoenix, Arizona!

I‘ve been pretty busy the last few days. I refinished the top of the dining room table, removed the old rug and chairs, laid out the new rug, assembled the new chairs, and moved several of our Barnes & Noble Leather Bound Classics collection into the dining room. I‘m really happy with how it all came together. 😊

I was surprised to like this as much as I did. I suppose that‘s why it has endured as a classic. Normally nothing about a 19th century family of five daughters seeking husbands would entice me to read but I‘m glad I finally did. Austen‘s writing is beautiful and requires focus due to all the dependent clauses and circuitous phrasing of the era. Overall, well worth the time.

I mean, OF COURSE it‘s a 5-star read. But honestly, I did truly enjoy reading this again and definitely felt like I got so much more out of it than when I first read it about 20 years ago. It‘s witty & clever, such a terrific observation of human emotion & foibles & the sheer absurdity of love & attraction (another reason to be glad I‘m ace/gray-ro, LOL). I think I also appreciated Elizabeth much more as an older woman w/less time for BS 😆 5/5 ⭐️

Thank the Lord I was blessed NOT to have been born in a time when this was the prevailing experience for women.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a woman in possession of a love of literature cannot read Pride and Prejudice only once in her lifetime. Translation: It‘s reread time, woohoo! I have indeed only read this once, when I was 19 or 20, which is a long ass time ago. I adored it then and feel pretty safe in saying I‘ll adore it just as much, if not more, now. #nowreading

I have read this book at least once a year since I was 15. Rereading this book is like being wrapped in a big, cozy blanket or getting a hug from your best friend. It is comforting, good for my heart, and makes me happy. I never get tired of this story. Every time I read it, I smile, sigh and swoon from beginning to end.

I read PnP last month, but have no problem reading it again this month for the #janeaustenreadalong.
Of my 25 copies of this book, there are only 2 editions I have actually read. The other editions are too pretty for my inevitable tea stains.
