A Stranger in the House
A Stranger in the House | Shari Lapena
Your home still isn't the safe place it should be, in Shari Lapena's pulse-pounding new thriller. ***** You come home after a long day at work, ready for dinner with your wife. But she's not there. And it looks like she left in a blind panic. Her mobile phone and her bag are still in the house. You fear the worst. You call the police. And they tell you that your wife's been in an accident. She lost control of her car as she sped through a street on the worst side of town. But why would she go there? Was she running towards something? Away from something? The police think she was up to no good. You refuse to believe it. Then you start to wonder. You've been married for three years and you thought you knew her better than anyone on earth. But maybe you don't.

The storyline was ok, but I figured out who did it before the middle of the book.
The characters were just okay, again another book written with a nosy neighbor involved. I didn't feel any need to want to turn the pages in a hurry, finding myself, putting it down to read another book

Yet another book stuck between Pick and So-So. Karen gets into a car accident, has amnesia and cant remember anything from that night. Her husband cant figure out what she was doing in the bad part of town and starts to doubt her and someone is dead. Unfortunately, the book was very predictable. I saw every twist from a mile away. However, the book was a very quick read.

I found this in my library's collection of Mysteries Without Murder. That's terribly inaccurate as this is 100% a murder mystery thriller... but it's SO GOOD. I'm really into it so I can't be that mad. I was misled though lol

If you are looking for Pulitzer Prize winning novel this is not the book for you but if your looking for an easy quick read with a twist at the end this book is for you. Nothing spectacular but kept me reading till the twisty end. 🙃

I started walking recently (taking a PE class at the college has really motivated me) and it was kind of...boring? So I figured I would try audiobooks again, and it definitely helped today (first day audio-walking). I didn‘t go as far as I wanted, but I could tell my dog was getting tired and thirsty so we headed home. #audiowalking #audiowalk (so glad I discovered Libby! That‘s what I‘m going to use for audiobooks)

LoverOfLearning Is Libby free? 3d
Tera0707 @LoverOfLearning it is. Mine is connected to my local library. I‘m not sure if all libraries use it, however, so you may have to look that up. I‘m so glad I found it though. It gives you an estimate on how long the wait for a book is, and you can see the “countdown” until the book is available to you. 3d
LoverOfLearning @Tera0707 very cool! I'll look into this! 3d

This was a quick read and Lapena can be relied on to provide a good mystery, but I feel like this one kind of broke the rules in a way when it came to POV. Can't explain further without major spoilers, and I do think it's worth picking up for mystery/thriller lovers.

The only real redeeming quality for this book was the twist at the end.....other than that I had a really hard time connecting with the characters. The writing seemed kinda surface level. It was a quick and easy read if that is what you are looking for and she did leave it open ended for a potential sequel...

I can‘t call it a pick, but I read it in 1 day so I clearly didn‘t DISLIKE it. Some of the twists were predictable, some were completely implausible. The pacing is a little off. And (again in Shari‘s work) I didn‘t find any of the characters particularly likable. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I read before bed every night. But, I never have time during the day EVER! I managed to find 30 minutes to sit down with a cup of coffee and read. This is unheard of. This book must have been worth it! Not that impressed with the ending, but it's rare that I am. It's a good book to take on holiday, or to rest your brain at the end of a hectic day.

So I just woke up to my alarm blaring at two am!! I look over and of course there‘s no one beside me... I just out of bed and grab my gun, go to my daughters room and she‘s ok 🙏🏻 She had friends stay over last night and one slept in our spare bedroom. She told her DO NOT open this door because the alarm will go off!!! So all I know is that “someone opened it at 208 am. I thought she was trying to sneak someone in but maybe she was 👇🏻

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Trying to sneak out! KIDS! I walked outside and looked around (with my gun) and didn‘t see anyone. I also have a crazy ex husband so I‘m a little on edge right now. The police came and didn‘t see anyone either. So now I‘m up! Just had to get this off my chest! Thank you for listening!!! I think I am calmed down now... 11mo

Well that was a twist! I wasn‘t thrilled with the characters in this novel, they all felt very on the service and shallow. I did end up enjoying the ending with the unreliability of several narrators. Also I don‘t really enjoy police officer characters and they didn‘t necessarily add to the story for me, more from the husband would have been better. It was a good interesting mystery and I enjoy this author as it‘s the second I‘ve read of hers.

I bought this book to read on the plane ride home, but I bailed pretty early because it is just awful. The writing is clunky, the characters are unbelievable and I just couldn‘t waste any more time on it. I should have purchased something way nicer during my first visit to Shakespeare and Co. Guess I will just have to go back.

I don‘t really know how to feel about this book besides meh. This was my first audiobook thriller and it was hard at first to follow along with the different POV‘s being told. Once I caught on it was easy to follow the story and figure out what was goin on. I wasn‘t surprised by a lot in this book besides the ending regarding Brigid who was creepy af. The title of this story didn‘t not live up to the actual story.

⭐️⭐️⭐️

RadicalReader @That-Bookish-Hiker what book or books did superbly creep you out ? 1y
That-Bookish-Hiker @RadicalReader Bird Box by Josh Malerman really creeped me out. Another book that had that “was that there before” creepy feeling was the YA book called There‘s Someone Inside Your House by Stephanie Perkins. It was creepy but also written like a cheesy horror movie like Scream in a great way. 1y
RadicalReader @That-Bookish-Hiker I read Bird Box and enjoyed it loved it and was eager to check out the author‘s latest novel Unbury Carol and it was a snooze fest didn‘t have that gripping feeling or creepy atmosphere had to double check that it was written by the same author which it was. 1y
