Read by a full cast, this audiobook definitely felt like watching a sci-fi horror movie! #TeamSlaughter #scarathalon @Clwojick

I made it out for a 20 minute, 1 mile walk with my mom and dog today, 24 hours after getting out of surgery. Yay! 😎 I also finished my first book of the challenge, Alien: Out of the Shadows, an Audible original full-cast drama. 👍 Now I'm back to lying in bed with an ice pack on my face, trying to drink little bits of water occasionally. #bookfitnesschallenge #bfc @wanderinglynn

Caterina @wanderinglynn @jillannjohn @nelehelen @TheSpineView @Clwojick @cobwebmoth @BookwormAHN @kspenmoll Thank y'all! 😊 And don't worry, I've been resting a ton! Other than managing a shower and a cup of yogurt, those 20 minutes were my only time spent out of bed today. And boy did it feel good to move a bit, and breathe in the fresh air! 👍 7mo
Marina_h Well done so shortly after surgery 👍 A little sometimes goes a long way! 7mo
Jess I‘m really interested to hear what you think of the book. I am a huge fan of the Alien movie series but haven‘t tried any of the books. Hope you are feeling better. 7mo

The meds and ice packs are working just well enough for me to listen to this engrossing, full-cast audio drama. I know nothing about the Alien franchise, I've just had this free book sitting in my Audible library for a while with no plans to read it until today. So thankful for something that can occupy my mind while I hold an ice pack on my face. 👍 This might end up being my first book read for the #bookfitnesschallenge! @wanderinglynn

I‘ve not really been into the alien series, but trying to find different things to read, in my zone and out. I do appreciate a full cast narration, and the story isn‘t too long (if I don‘t really enjoy it) and is the first of a trilogy (if I do).

I‘m usually not a fan of audio dramatizations, I find them tiresome to listen to, but this one was actually quite good! A rather pleasant surprise among the otherwise uninteresting Audible freebies.

This was a really fun audible short (4 hours approximately). I enjoyed that the actors were energetic and immersive. The voice actress for Ripley was spot on too. Worth a listen for sure!

I'm only 3 chapters into this book and I'm not a huge fan of the franchise (I do enjoy the first 2 films), I'm willing to give this a shot after reading the novelizations for Alien & Aliens. I'm hoping to get to Alien vs Predator at some point.

But the flip side to quitting A Wrinkle in Time means I got to move on to this guy. It did not disappoint. Complete nightmare fuel. I DO NOT read horror thanks to an overactive imagination but the Alien series is totally a guilty pleasure. #tinymouth

ElaineHowlin Oooh this looks cool!! 1y
ErinSueMreads It was so good! It was a full cast drama with loss of sound effects and what not. Real creepy @ElaineHowlin 1y
Jess Thanks for the recommendation. I love the movie series but never thought to try the books. I love a full cast recording. 1y
ErinSueMreads @Jess it is great! Definitely worth listening too and is really short! Only four hours 1y

This was fantastic! Enjoyed the multiple narrators, sound effects and music. Felt like I was listening to a movie. And, the best part is that I finished it with only 10 minutes left in our drive back home. I timed it well for today's trip!

Drove to my parents' house today for our last Christmas gathering of 2017. My rule in my car is that if I'm driving I control the stereo. My choice for this trip is Audible's original recording of the tagged book. It is just long enough for the drive there and back. I didn't count on the 30 minutes I had to pause it while the hubby chatted on his phone. It really made the trip there go by fast!

Fun story despite the restrictions imposed by having to stay in continuity between the first two films. Spoilery reveal of how the author managed that below.

DaveNeufeld Ripley wakes from stasis (following first film), has awful alien adventure, has memories wiped and returns to stasis none the wiser. Duh! 2y

The Alien comics have been so good lately that I've been craving more of this universe, so I'm giving the novels a try.

In the first #Head2Head challenge in the #ArmchairAudies #AudioDrama category, 'Alien: Out of the Shadows, An Audible Original Drama' easily outclasses 'In the Embers' in terms of script, sound effects and overall production values. Kudos to Robin Miles though, who is amazing as a voice actor and singer in 'In the Embers'. 🎧

And I've decided to judge a third category for the #ArmchairAudies! I've already listened to 'Alien: Out of the Shadows, An Audible Original Drama' and 'In the Embers', so just three more contenders to vet in the #AudioDrama category! 🎧

After listening to the audio drama adaptation of Tim Lebbon's book, I decided that I wanted to read the full novel too! Since I was already there in the SFF section, picked up the other two books as well... And all I can think about is the new Kim Stanley Robinson novel I *didn't* get, 'New York 2140!' #TBR

Lindy Very nice stack! 📚 3y
Lizpixie Let us know what the Alien book is like! Please? 3y
Dogearedcopy @Lizpixie You bet! I've never thought of myself as into movie franchise books; but I find myself craving more in the Alien universe! 3y
Lizpixie Ripley was my first female movie crush, I still watch both original movies on a regular basis. You'll enjoy A Long Way To A Small Angry Planet, I absolutely loved it!❤️ 3y

Listened to the audio drama based on the novel for #ArmchairAudies #OriginalWork category: Laurel Lefkow voices Ripley so well I thought Audible had spliced in film dialogue! Rutger Hauer (❤) voiced the modified Ash character very nicely too. Story had a continuity error; and was obsessed with decompression chambers and warning everyone that "acid burns" *a lot*; but it's a pretty good story nonetheless if not adding anything to the cannon ?⭐⭐⭐

LitHousewife You are more woman than me for listening to this. The cover is enough to scare me. 3y
Guildedearlobe I've been tempted but I usually avoid audio dramas. Is it just voice acting or is there effects like the Star Wars audiobooks ? 3y
Dogearedcopy @Guildedearlobe It's full cast plus music and sound fx. There is an unabridged audiobook narrated by Jeff Harding, though I couldn't tell you if it is any good or not 3y
Guildedearlobe My main problem is the effects. In movies and books with a lot of ambient noice I struggle. I almost always use captions when watching tv because of this and I've been tempted for movies at the theatre as well. 3y
Dogearedcopy @Guildedearlobe I find a lot of US audio dramas over-produced with music and sound fx; and have better listening experiences with BBC productions. The U.K. seems to have a longer, stronger radio tradition which lends itself well to the format 3y

It's been close to 40 years since Alien was released in the movie theaters, and just slightly less since I had last seen it! I decided to dnload & watch it before I listened to the interstitial short audio produced by Audible (tagged)... Wow! The movie has held up remarkably well over time: the tension, the sets, costuming, lights, props, continuity... and of course, the acting! (Detail: Image from the movie poster)

BooksForEmpathy Did you know there's a NEW one coming out!? 3y
Dogearedcopy @BooksForEmpathy Bo, I didn't! Looks like I have some catching up until do before May 17th! (edited) 3y
Guildedearlobe I need to watch this again. I think I was like 8 when I saw it. I've watched Aliens multiple times but not Alien, 3y

An INTENSE adventure in the Alien franchise. Taking place between the Alien and Aliens movies, Ellen Ripley finds herself in Hell once again. While the book ultimately adds nothing to the existing Alien storyline, it does offer hours of thrilling excitement, as well as setting up a terrible history for the planet LV178 to appear in the next book.
