Final Head2Head contest in the #ArmchairAudies #OriginalWork category: 'The Dispatcher' (by J. Scalzi) vs 'Pete Seeger, Storm King - Volume 2' (written & performed by P. Seeger et al; ed. by J. Haynes.) The former is sexy, fun, & whets the appetite for more;but the latter, despite the production values,is really only a part of a whole piece; and would probably appeal to an older,NPR-type crowd that remembers Seeger in his day. FTW:'The Dispatcher'

'Who Was Pete Seeger?' won't be released until June 6 of this year; but I'll be listening to 'The Storm King' next. 'The Storm King: Volume 2' is up for an Audie in the #OriginalWork category; but first things first! 😄

In the penultimate #Head2Head challenge in the #ArmchairAudies #OriginalWork category, 'The Dispatcher' wins by virtue of excellent production quality and a well-written story. I think the *world* of Robin Miles, and there was a lot of work that went into 'In the Embers'; but in the end it felt too much like community theater. I have issues w/the script and post-production; and am annoyed at having to listen to 2 hours of interviews :-/

LitHousewife I almost never listen to interviews, so 2 hours worth would kill me. 7y

Starting this #OriginalWork today in audio! An archaeologist has used a technique to extract fossilized sound from charcoaled wood; and is looking to unearth evidence of long term residence of historic significance at a proposed construction site in Maryland... Narrated by Edwin Strout, Robin Miles, and a Full Cast that includes Robin's daughter! 🎧#ArmchairAudies

Lindy This sounds intriguing. 7y
Dogearedcopy @Lindy Hey, I saw that you added this to your stacks do I thought I should mention that it wasn't in the Litsy db! It's called, 'In the Embers' and it's available on Audible 🙂🎧 7y
Lindy @Dogearedcopy O silly me, I wasn't paying attention. Thank you for the heads up! 7y

#Head2Head: Tom Magliozzi passed away a couple of yrs ago, so it was fun to hear takes from the show he did with his brother, Ray. As always, they guarantee to put a smile on your face; but I have to admit that listening to them crack each other up segment after segment wore thin even within the short runtime of this #OriginalWork. It seems this was intended to entertain more than educate. So, by default, again, 'The Dispatcher!' #ArmchairAudies

Listened to the audio drama based on the novel for #ArmchairAudies #OriginalWork category: Laurel Lefkow voices Ripley so well I thought Audible had spliced in film dialogue! Rutger Hauer (❤) voiced the modified Ash character very nicely too. Story had a continuity error; and was obsessed with decompression chambers and warning everyone that "acid burns" *a lot*; but it's a pretty good story nonetheless if not adding anything to the cannon ?⭐⭐⭐

LitHousewife You are more woman than me for listening to this. The cover is enough to scare me. 7y
Guildedearlobe I've been tempted but I usually avoid audio dramas. Is it just voice acting or is there effects like the Star Wars audiobooks ? 7y
Dogearedcopy @Guildedearlobe It's full cast plus music and sound fx. There is an unabridged audiobook narrated by Jeff Harding, though I couldn't tell you if it is any good or not 7y
Guildedearlobe My main problem is the effects. In movies and books with a lot of ambient noice I struggle. I almost always use captions when watching tv because of this and I've been tempted for movies at the theatre as well. 7y
Dogearedcopy @Guildedearlobe I find a lot of US audio dramas over-produced with music and sound fx; and have better listening experiences with BBC productions. The U.K. seems to have a longer, stronger radio tradition which lends itself well to the format 7y

In the first (out of six) #head2head posts in the #ArmchairAudies #OriginalWork category, 'The Dispatcher' wins out over Larry Correia's novella, 'The Adventures of Tom Stranger, Interdimensional Insurance Agent'! "Tom Stranger" is furiously funny and fast-paced; and Adam Baldwin does not disappoint; but Correia is a Sad Puppy; and the manatee character sounds like a whale... And by now we all know how perfect I think 'The Dispatcher' is! ??

Guildedearlobe I've been wanting to read the Correia novella, I'm trying not to let my personal feelings about his and Baldwin's online antics affect me because I actually like most of his stuff but it gets hard. 7y
Dogearedcopy @Guildedearlobe Correia has an axe to grind, and he uses "Tom Stranger" as a whetstone. The novella is funny; but his pettiness is getting more obtuse :-/ (edited) 7y
Dogearedcopy @Guildedearlobe Sigh. I just googled Adam Baldwin. 😒 7y
Guildedearlobe Yeah. I can deal with differing politic but their belligerence is a bit munch. I'm a bit annoyed I didn't get this when it was free. 7y
