This has been on my bookshelf for 10+ years and I‘m so glad I finally picked it up. It‘s a super short book and honestly it was repetitive so it could have been even shorter, but it think the author wanted to make sure the reader fully understood each agreement. I‘ll definitely use these agreements in the future. I also felt good how I had already changed my “nightmare” agreements and really feel my life has become my dream. I highly recommend.

#mondaymotivation 1. It‘s Ramadan so EID this week and my 3 kids are still on Spring break so family time at the beach and finally my daughter‘s 12th birthday sleep over party. 2. I started making my own Chai Latte from scratch, so lately that‘s the one. But, any hot drink. Usually tea but sometimes coffee or hot chocolate. 3. A book mark and I save them over the years like little memories. 4. Tagged- it‘s been in my TBR pile for 10+ years.

The other one that had a really profound impact on me was “The Four Agreements“, which is basically the agreements that you make with yourself. People often have conflicting agreements in their mind and if you read this book you'll stop the chatter in your mind. It makes it way easier to focus and execute. It also makes you much stronger emotionally

Recommended by a counselor. DNF. Either this is ancient wisdom never shared and the author has chosen to cash in on it OR it‘s his own wisdom and he‘s using that as a hook. I don‘t believe the ancestors gave him permission to share said wisdom after thousands of years. But who am I? 🤷‍♀️ There may be good principles in this book but that turned me off from the start and I couldn‘t carry on. Felt too gimmicky.

AnnR @megnews, I had a similar reaction to this one. At one point I had a co-worker who raved about this book and even had a copy of the “four agreements“ on her desk. Somehow I was put off by some of the author's claims and therefore never fully embraced his message. (You are right that some of it comes off as a gimmick.) I'm surprised this book has continued to be so popular. Maybe there is something to it after all. 12mo

I understand why people like this book. There were a few good quotes that I highlighted, but I still don‘t fully recommend it. I was occasionally offended, but I could tell the author had good intent. It‘s not life changing, but there are a few parts that make you think differently.

This is one of those books that, had I read it at a different time in my life, I probably wouldn't have liked it. But because I read it at this current point in my life, where I'm on a path of self love and self development, I really connected with it. I highlighted a lot and I really do believe that honoring the 4 agreements will make life easier and more enjoyable. Not for everyone, but a good read for an open mind 😌

“And I put a little piece of my love in every human, and I became one with the whole of humanity. Wherever I go, whomever I meet, I see myself in their eyes, because I am a part of everything, because I love.“

This was a decent read. I think this is a really good starter book for someone on the path to find more peace and have a more positive outlook/effect in life.

There were some interesting ideas, and I can see why so many people count it among the most influential self-help books. This book wasn‘t for me though, probably for the same reasons it‘s so popular—the writing and ideas are really simple and direct, which can be powerful for some and boring for others.

JanuarieTimewalker13 I think this is better in audiobook format. Peter Coyote narrates. (edited) 5y

Do any of you listen to the By the Book podcast? They absolutely hated this book, but I thought it was rather eye-opening and useful. I express my thoughts, personal anecdotes, and respond to By the Book's criticisms. Also, I would like to state that if a self-help book is doing you more harm than good, stop reading it! https://greatmorrisonmigration.wordpress.com/2019/03/14/book-review-the-four-agr...

BillyH I don‘t know I felt about this book. I loved it and hated it. The general concept and idea of the book was great, with eye opening visualizations of how we construct and make since of our reality and consciousness. I think what got me was the tone of the book and the use of words like black magic and poison. 5y
Morr_Books @BillyH Totally understand that the tone could cause ppl problems. I think I made an active decision to focus on the concepts. I think the use of words like black magic, etc. comes directly from the Toltec belief structure. 5y
