Since its first publication in 1937, 'Think & Grow Rich' has been considered the best self-help book in the world. The book is often called the first Philosophy of Personal Achievement; it will not just change what one thinks, but it will literally change the way one thinks.

'..., the data suggests that industry platforms offer a more efficient way to organize the innovation process and many other types of economic activity. Platforms have already delivered revolutionary change. But we now live in a world where business of platform has become intimately tied to digital competition, innovation, and power - for better and for worse. It is up to us whether platforms in the future improve the world or undermine it.'

'Good parent / bad parent' labels are not helpful because they are about extremes. It's impossible to be perfectly attuned to our children all the time, and even some good intentions can have harmful consequences. But because nobody wants to be labelled as 'bad parent', when we make mistakes (and we do), wanting to avoid the label makes us pretend we haven't made them.

I came across this fairy story, by chance. It is a book which we studied in the literature class during high school (24 years ago!) It brings lots of good memories. I am so excited to read it again.

Pickpick

A great book to read. While reading, I found myself relating lots of the author's experience, logic and thinking to various aspects to my personal and work life. Chapter after chapter, the author made sure to establish a great relationship with his readers through constructive thoughts and feedback.

"How we think about our circumstances and our ability to deal with them is crucial to how we're feeling"

quote
nabilnhd

" You cannot manage history.
You can learn from your past.
You can learn from your mistakes.
But you can't change your past. No amount of worrying will ever do that.
You can only change how it's impacting your present. Dwelling on past pains and regrets weakens you. It makes you more prone to anxiety and stress. It robs you of the ability to move on.
It is time to start a new chapter."

quote

Why do we worry? 8 reasons:
1. We can enjoy worrying
2. The challenge of change & uncertainty
3. A lack of knowledge & experience
4. A lack of influence & control
5. Your values
6. Your upbringing
7. Previous experience
8. Overexposure to bad news
9. We are wired to Worry

quote
nabilnhd

' Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well presented body; but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "Woo hoo, what a ride!" '

Somebody said about this book: 'Enlightening and engaging, you are bound to discover ideas and insights to help you deal with the pressures of life."

A Psychology Professor said: "a down to earth book, which can help worriers deal with the small stresses in life that create sleepless nights."

I will start the reading !

Book ending:
"From taking a breath to taking a sabbatical, pause can be many things. And the good news is, even just a small pause every now and again can make a real and lasting difference."

"However, while there is a lot of room for manoeuvre here, it is also important to accept that, at some level, conscious or unconscious, pause is a matter of choice... If you think you are too busy, you are fooling yourself... Whatever your circumstances, there will be something you can do. You will have to work at it but if you really want to pause, you will find a way to do so. If you don't, you won't. It is totally up to you."

quote

" A pause is an opening.
It acts as a portal to other options and choices, giving more dimension to your experience."

"Fast versus slow, and work versus life, are, in fact, bogus choices. In setting up one against the other, we miss the fact that there are other, less combative, possibilities. We ignore the value of variation and modulation. Which is where PAUSE comes into its own. Pause is part of work and life. It isn't fast or slow. It doesn't exist at a single point on the spectrum of speed, but all over it.
..., there is always the chance to pause "

Last paragraph in the book:

"It's for you to decide whether change is right for you now. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. But either way, keep the growth mindset in your thoughts. Then, when you bump up against obstacles, you can turn to it. It will always be there for you, showing you a path into the future."

".. If parents want to give their children a gift, the best thing they can do is to teach their children to love challenges, be intrigued by mistakes, enjoy effort, seek new strategies, and keep on learning. That way, their children don't have to be slaves of praise. They will have a lifelong way to build and repair their own confidence."

".. Praise should deal, not with the child's personality attributes, but with his efforts and achievements."

quote
nabilnhd

"Think of times other people outdid you and you just assumed they were smarter or more talented. Now consider the idea that they just used better strategies, taught themselves more, practiced harder, and worked their way through obstacles. You can do that, too, if you want to."

quote

... failure can be a painful experience. But it doesn't define you. It's a problem to be faced, dealt with, and learned from.
