I finished my reread of this in prep for Dark Age. I enjoyed itmore the second time around. I was able to give up all my preconceived notions of what this book should be and what should happen. That allowed me to be more immersed and enjoy it more. 5 ⭐️ Now on to Dark Age. No doubt it will be a rough one.

But this here is the gory legacy of the Red Rising and in this world, things burn, break, bare the brunt and slag the bloody damn onward. Iron hangs at their heels, but these aren‘t men of iron. These men are Iron Golds.

“Ah, I see the Ash Lord has become most literal indeed.” 🤣 Rest in grease, ya filthy animal!

If this were The Hunger Games, I would tell you the cannon struck thrice in memorium of the fallen (ch. 22, 48, and 62. Oooooh 62 was a brilliant death!).

If this had the lightness of a comedian‘s brush, I‘d tell you chapter 58 is worth a chuckle. Who knew Ephraim had it in him?

I finished Iron Gold, and, wow! I had a bit of trepidation starting this book after loving Morning Star so much, but it did not disappoint! The depth and breath of this world and its characters are truly amazing, and I can‘t wait (but am also scared) to see what‘s in store for us in Dark Age!

I haven‘t been able to put Red Rising down since I started reading the first trilogy, and now I have a little break before book #5. For the first time in the series, I need a break. This one ends on a weird note.

As a whole, I love this series. It‘s really unique and the characters are excellent. The world just keeps getting bigger and more detailed.

DGRachel Yeah - I was mad when Morning Star's publication was delayed, but I've actually been grateful for putting off Dark Age as long as it has been delayed. I know it will be phenomenal, but I'm rather dreading it. 😞 2mo

Also snagged this at the library this morning! It is a lot thicker than I thought it would be. Definitely the longest of the four so far. I‘m not sure where this is going to go after the ending of Morning Star. I have heard it‘s a lot different than the other ones but I‘m anxious to find out for myself. I also checked out the audiobook so I can listen in the car and when I‘m out walking. Another fabulous #SeriesRead I‘m looking forward to!

BookaholicNatty @MellieAntoinette I know right!!!!! I had thought in the end of the second book or the beginning of the third what would happen if Mustang got pregnant. So that thought did cross my mind. But Cassius had me fooled man! And I seriously thought Sevro was dead and I was like noooooo! That ending had me fooled so bad! I just didn‘t see that coming at all. What did you think?? 3mo
MellieAntoinette @BookaholicNatty I wasn‘t expecting mustang (or anyone) to wind up as Ruler. But they have a son!!! I wonder if that‘s what people mean by this ending disappointed them?? It was a little undo redo. But I personally felt like it fit. I wanted Jackal to have a harsher end! 3mo

I was hesitant to continue the Red Rising saga after finishing Morningstar. I have to admit, I was disappointed with the uncreative ending Pierce Brown chose for his first trilogy, but I had been so sucked in by the rest of the books it had become one of my favorites. I was hesitant to begin the next trilogy with the introduction of 3 narrators outside of Darrow, but you got me Pierce! I am loving it all 😍

So excited to get back into the series! Hoping so hard this doesnt disappoint! Am I the only one that found the very end of the third book a little lack luster -- like hello show some emotion? Or is that just me haha

hannahx I totally agreed. Just starting Iron Gold after attempting to resist. I was completely entrenched in Morningstar, and the ending sucked. So far Iron Gold is not disappointing. 3mo
idealityandme @hannahx exactly! I was hoping for more of a reaction or more emotion! I think this author does so well with character development along with other points of story telling but there are some disappointing moments for sure. He misses some opportunities that otherwise could be epic. 3mo

Pierce Brown sure ain‘t afraid to hurt his characters. This is one of those books where everyone runs around making terrible life choices that are nonetheless understandable when you consider each character‘s view of their (often desperate) situation. It‘s also one of those books where nobody‘s really a good guy or a bad guy. Everyone‘s awful at least some of the time, yet no one feels irredeemable.

I‘m eager to see where they all go next.

BookHoarder32 I really need to start this series.. ☺️ 4mo

And now, a deeply exciting picture of my closet. I underpoured the paint a bit so I‘ll have to finish up the last corner and do the touch-ups tomorrow. I‘m way too tired to go on tonight.

I also finished IRON GOLD, at long last! I planned to reread MISTBORN next, but I dunno if I‘m up for two audio chunksters in a row. I‘ll see how I feel tomorrow. #audiopainting

Lindy Nice job on the painting. How about listening to a few podcasts in between chunksters? 5mo

On the plus side, I should finally finish IRON GOLD either tonight or tomorrow. I‘m on chapter 57 of 64 (I think). RB Digital‘s got a great catalogue, but I wish they‘d show you how much time you have left in the whole book, not just in your current chapter. #audiopainting

My morning #audiorun was on the treadmill again because it was -1 out, so please accept this greenery from my friend‘s garden in lieu of some boring photo of my feet.

I didn‘t listen to my book on Casey‘s afternoon walk because I needed a break. It‘s good but it‘s loooooong and everyone‘s making such terrible life choices. It‘s like they‘re in a genre that demands maximum drama or something.

I saw lots of robins on today‘s #audiowalk!

I also experienced EXTREME FRUSTRATION with my FitBit. I‘ve got a Zip so I‘ve gotta work harder than wristband people to start with, and today it kept glitching out on account of its crappy Ikea battery. I‘ve lost at least 1700 steps so far. Bloody hell.

Never buy Ikea batteries, friends. They‘re worse than the ones from the dollar store. #litsywalkers

Another 3° morning meant another #audiorun on the treadmill. It wasn‘t so bad, really. When I run inside, the view‘s boring but I get to listen to my book. When I run outside, there‘s more variety but I‘ve got Nora from the NHS in my ear telling me when to slow down and speed up.

I‘m loving this book so far and all the actors are great, but DAMN did the producer ever drop the ball on volume moderation. I hate it when that happens. ?

GypsyKat That‘s a huge bummer about the volume! Such a pet peeve of mine! 5mo

I tend to forget between red rising books what happened before, so I have to read summaries. This book took that to a whole other level, with new characters and multiple points of view. Still, it was fantastic and I loved it. I loved seeing points of view other than Darrow‘s. (I do think maybe I need to start taking notes! It‘s like Wheel of Time-type dense). Can‘t wait for the next one!

Hail Reaper!

Darrow, always conflicted. Be the husband and father he should be or lead the war he started that never seems to end?

Sevro is a doting father, but ever willing to stand and fight with his dearest friend.

Catch up with the remaining group and meet the new characters.

This one was quite a ride! I absolutely did not want it to end. Ready for the next one!

It‘s 10 years after the rising and the war rages on. Darrow‘s made a lot of choices in this book that people don‘t look favorably on. Just as we do today… the people build their hero up, just to watch him fall and we start wars with good intentions that have unintended consequences. For the first time, Darrow is a bit of an anti-hero. Can‘t wait for the next book!

I can't not adore this book. The characters have come to mean so much to me. Brown had created a world of intrigue and duplicity that keeps you hovering on the edge. Ten years after the Red Rising trilogy ends, we revisit our old friends. The story unfold from four POVs. The novel tackles the impact war has on everyone from the soldiers to the orphaned children it leaves behind. It was bleak, but good.

“I suppose that is what every man must tell himself in war. That there will be an end, and when it is done, enough of himself will remain. Enough to be a father. A brother. A lover. But we know it isn‘t true.”

Iron Gold is set ten years after the events of Morning Star. It took me a little while to get into the groove of the new events, but once I got oriented with the new setting I feel in love and was so happy to be back in the Red Rising world. Iron Gold really makes you think about right and wrong and the cost of the war; it‘s serious in a lot of ways but still a fun sci-fi read #howlerforlife

So glad to be back in the Red Rising-verse. Ten years later and the revolution is ongoing (and problematic), but with lots of new characters alongside our old faves. I liked Lysander‘s chapters a lot, but found I was less excited about Lyria. Nice to explore new areas (Venus for example), though there are still many parts of this world that I don‘t think have been fully explored or explained.
