One of my favorite author events ever—not only because Pierce Brown is as good a storyteller in person as he is on the page, but also because I went to this signing with my daughter (in middle school at the time). So fun to go together & have an opportunity to tell Brown how much we both love his books.

Have a favorite signed book? A favorite author meeting? I‘d love to hear your stories!

Long Way Down | Jason Reynolds

Today‘s #FavoriteSignedBooks is from BEA in 2017 (I think). Such a fun weekend, so many amazing authors. I cannot tell you how excited I was to say hello to Jason Reynolds, truly a wonderful, inspiring ambassador for young readers, and to have a chance to tell him not only how much I enjoyed his books but also, more importantly, how much students love his books. This one is a favorite!

Old Man's War | John Scalzi

Today‘s #FavoriteSignedBooks is one of my son‘s all time favorite books/series. Clearly an old man before his time 😂, my son started reading this series when he was twelve years old & he couldn‘t put it down. He was tongue tied when he met Scalzi in 2020 but thought he was very cool. My son is so protective of the book, he bought a digital copy so he doesn‘t have to carry this one around.

I‘d love to hear about your favorite signed books! 📖🖋

TheNeverendingTBR I picked up a signed copy of this the other day for 50p 😍 2y
TracyReadsBooks @TheNeverendingTBR That‘s an awesome find! 2y

Feb. 2020 we went to C2E2 & were fortunate enough to get a copy of the tagged book a few days before it was released (the publisher was at the convention which is why I think they had it). Better yet, Rae Carson was there & I had her sign the book to my son & I since we are both big Star Wars fans & like to read the books. (The best is when we read & discuss books together!)

I‘d love to hear about your #FavoriteSignedBooks!

I first met Annalee at BEA when I saw a poster of their book Autonomous with blurbs from William Gibson & Neal Stephenson—recommendation enough for me! We chatted & then I later saw Annalee on tour, went out for drinks with them & Charlie Jane Anders & now I never miss Annalee when they are on tour. Sometimes those blurbs on the covers really do matter!

Have a story about a favorite signed book? I‘d love to hear it!

Alfoster Yes! I met Jesse Kellerman years ago at LA Festival of Books. Loved his dad books and Jesse‘s first was awesome! But when I walked up to the table I blurted out, “You‘re 10 years old!” He wasn‘t of course; I bit my tongue but he smiled widely and responded, “Why yes I am!” I should have been banned; thank goodness he was so gracious!❤️👏 2y
TracyReadsBooks @Alfoster I love your story!!! It‘s great that he took it in stride and was so gracious. I still get nervous at author signings and have, on more than one occasion, blurted out something that had me cringing with embarrassment in the inside! I‘m such a fan my excitement sometimes just spills over. 2y
Alfoster That‘s good to know! I seriously could meet a movie star and say nothing, but authors make me tongue-tied (or a verbal idiot)!😱 2y

All the Birds in the Sky | Charlie Jane Anders
post image

If you are a fan of science fiction and/or fantasy and ever have the chance to see Charlie Jane Anders in person, I highly recommend doing so. She is THE BEST—always has something interesting to say, wears the most fabulous dresses, and signs her books with exuberance. I see her whenever she‘s in town and this is the first book I ever had her sign (there have been more since).

Tell me about your favorite signed books!

Today‘s story—in college I helped at a book signing for Jean M. Auel. I asked her to sign a book for my then boyfriend (now husband). As she did, I told her I was going to graduate school to study archaeology—it seemed in line with her books (at least a little)—& for the next few minutes she told me why it was a terrible idea. She didn‘t change my mind, but she did make an impression!

I‘d love to hear your favorite stories!

River Angel | A. Manette Ansay
post image

@TracyReadsBooks this is my #FavoriteSignedReads book. A. Manette Ansay was one of my first "must buy" authors. And one time my mom and I went to hear her speak and I got this book signed (my favorite of hers) and her memoir, Limbo. It seems she hasn't written much since the late 90s. Possibly due to her health. I have an almost complete collection of her books that I treasure. ?

TracyReadsBooks Treasure indeed! Very cool story. How awesome was it that you got to see one of your favorite authors with your mom?!? I bet that was a fantastic day! 2y
DrexEdit It really was. 😊💜 2y

The Piano Man's Daughter | Timothy Findley
post image

Following the lead of @TracyReadsBooks and sharing one of my favourite signed books. I stumbled across this copy of The Piano Man's Daughter 10+ years ago. A family member gave it to me and told me to just pass it along when I was done with it...she didn't even realize that having a signed copy was a big deal! Needless to say, I pulled a selfish on this one and did *not* just send it on down the line. #FavoriteSignedBooks #FavouriteSignedBooks

CuriousG I should note that I did offer to give it back to the person, but she didn't want it 🤷‍♀️ 2y
PurpleyPumpkin This is one book I‘d be keeping forever!😉 2y
TracyReadsBooks I love this story! The delight in finding a signed book unexpectedly is real, isn‘t it? 2y

CuriousG @PurpleyPumpkin Right?! It also happened to come to me at a time when I was working at the Stratford Festival and his play Elizabeth Rex premiered. I knew what I had in my hands and wasn't letting it go! I was only a bartender, but working there was maybe the coolest job I've had in terms of exposing me to people, ideas, and art I would not normally have been around. Amazing how much you can glean behind a bar. Lol 2y
CuriousG @TracyReadsBooks It absolutely is! 2y
PurpleyPumpkin How amazing that you worked at the Stratford Festival! What an experience that must have been.😀 2y
CuriousG @PurpleyPumpkin It definitely had its perks. I would love to have free access to theatre now! 2y
kwmg40 What a treasure! I had the privilege of hearing Timothy Findley do a reading in before he passed. I also live close to the Stratford Festival and have been attending regularly for the past 35 years. How cool that you had worked there! 2y
CuriousG @kwmg40 growing up nearby, and going to Stratford for school, I had no idea how amazing it was to have something like the Festival Theatre right there. Now I can actually appreciate it and can't wait to actually set foot in the new Tom Patterson Theatre this year! 2y
kwmg40 I‘m looking forward to seeing the new theatre too! 2y

Kenneth Oppel, great MG/YA author, posted pictures of his favorite signed books on Twitter & asked people to share theirs. I love the idea & thought it would be perfect to do on Litsy!

This book was an unexpected, wonderful gift from my brother-in-law & it‘s my absolute favorite.😍

Want to share your stories? I‘ll try to post weekly & I‘d love to hear about your favorite signed books/author encounters!
