The Empress | S. J. Kincaid

Where do I start? I knew going into it I had some issues with the author. This book amplified upon that ten-fold. The few things I enjoyed about it were completely obliterated. The author doesn't show proper care & respect for her story or characters. She tries desperately to reach for shock value & leaves behind small, messy details. The main character is often immobile with wasted potential, being acted upon vs acting. Huge disappointment.

Overall an enjoyable read! It was entertaining and once I got into it (took me 11 chapters), I read most of it in one night. Some of the characters and ideas I really enjoyed but did find some of them inconsistent or unpolished. I also found myself being able to predict most of the book, aside from two instances. If you want a good casual read, this is it. Not the next Harry Potter, but I just might read the sequel.

So excited to get back into the series! Hoping so hard this doesnt disappoint! Am I the only one that found the very end of the third book a little lack luster -- like hello show some emotion? Or is that just me haha

hannahx I totally agreed. Just starting Iron Gold after attempting to resist. I was completely entrenched in Morningstar, and the ending sucked. So far Iron Gold is not disappointing. 7mo
idealityandme @hannahx exactly! I was hoping for more of a reaction or more emotion! I think this author does so well with character development along with other points of story telling but there are some disappointing moments for sure. He misses some opportunities that otherwise could be epic. 7mo

Taking a little break from the #redrisingseries and thought I would give this one a go! Have any of you read it? What did you think?
