Different day, different book, same airport.

Long layovers are never fun but at least I get some reading time in!
I had no idea that Carolyn Keene was not real and instead Nancy Drew was written by multiple people. The book explained how Nancy Drew came to be and the disagreements that resulted in having multiple people thinking they knew what was best for her.
It amazes me how all involved weren‘t willing to concede that it was a group effort to create this iconic character. #popsugar2019

The past 2 months I have not read nearly as much as I had planned which has frustrated me but I‘m trying to remember that I read because I love to & I shouldn‘t put pressure on myself.
I finished all the winter prompts for #booked2019 & read Hunted as #fairytale & the tagged book for Ireland
The first half I didn‘t love since I struggled to find likable characters but as time went on and they grew and evolved I ended up really enjoying this book

I sat in my car for a half hour outside the library trying to finish this one before the library closed the day it was due. It was a bit of a slow start for me but was the story picked up in the second half of the book I was all in and couldn‘t put it down.

March got off to a slow start but I finally finished my first book of the month!
This book wasn‘t too bad but it wasn‘t what I was expecting. It had two different storylines that were very loosely related. One followed the World Fair and all the difficulties surrounding it and the other followed HH Holmes‘ life. Both were interesting but would have been better separate.

Maybe it‘s because this case is unsolved so there aren‘t many specifics about what happened to these women but I loved how much the book focused on the lives of the women. There were some theories about what happened but it mainly focused on the victims and their families.

These women led rough lives that ended unthinkably but their profession doesn‘t mean that they don‘t deserve justice.

Are you really a Chatham World Ready Woman if you haven‘t read Silent Spring?
I finally got around the reading this book by Chatham‘s favorite alum. It is amazing that this book is still relevant today. At times it was hard to get through but I‘m so glad I read it.

I chose this for #booked2019 #happyplace since Chathams campus is the most beautiful place and I heard so much about this book in my time there

I was late for multiple things because I could not put this book down. I loved the suspense and how I was constantly guessing (incorrectly) who the killer was. I was not a fan of the ending but it didn‘t ruin the book for me. 4⭐️ #LitsyAtoZ

I was excited to read this since I thought the idea of a world where Germany and Japan won WWII would be an interesting concept but I just struggled with this book.
I could not get into it and felt lost for most of it 🤷🏼‍♀️

This was such a fun and easy read. It somewhat reminded me of Gossip Girl with all the money, drama and cattiness. This is not my typical genre but I enjoyed it!

Pachinko followed a Korean family throughout four generations and all the hardships they experienced through racism and historical events.
The author tried to fit too much into this book. Major things would happen at the end of a chapter and then never be discussed again or only be briefly mentioned because the story would jump forward or to a different character.
I did like seeing the Japanese- Korean dynamic but not enough to save this book

I‘m glad I finally got around to reading this but I would not want to read it again. It was so wordy with many parts that had me questioning what they had to do with the story. I enjoyed the parts by Mina and often dreaded Van Helsing‘s contributions.
I was expecting the book to follow Dracula more than it actually did.

This book was full of twists that made it hard to put down. I enjoyed the style and format and how the author left you questioning what was actually happening the whole but and still managed to wrap it up well at the end. I thought some parts were a little bit too unbelievable but generally it was really good.

Snowy Sunday morning meant so many puppy snuggles and getting to finish my next #LitsyAtoZ book.

I saw this at Alcatraz and decided I needed to read it. Overall it was an interesting content but some parts were boring and hard to get through but I enjoyed learning about Stroud and his unique time in prison.

Started off my #LitsyAtoZ with this one that I checked out from the library in December and never got around to reading last year.

I have been fascinated with this case ever since it was brought up in American Horror Story and thought this book was really well written and researched. It bounced around a little bit in ways that didn‘t totally make sense to me but overall I enjoyed it.

This book was incredibly done. It manages to cover so many heavy topics without seeming overdone.
The book accurately reflects societies reactions to certain situations, which is infuriating as I wish the actions and reactions of characters in this book was unbelievable.

I really loved this book and could not put it down. 5⭐️

Finished my first book of 2019 and was left underwhelmed. This book may have just been too hyped up that it didn‘t meet my expectations. It could be a little hard to follow in places. I just didn‘t love this like I was expecting to.

I stayed up way too late last night because I HAD to finish this. I really could not put this down! So good and very creepy. But seriously I loved this book.

And as an added bonus the book takes place in Pittsburgh which is also where the author is from.

This book started off slow and though it picked up there were still parts throughout that bored me. Sometimes it seemed that the characters were kind of living in a haze which was how I felt while reading it causing some parts to be a little confusing and unclear.
The book is told by following three characters around and I did enjoy how the author kept them separate but gradually fully wound them together. 3⭐️

I could have spent the entirety of my NYC trip in this store 💕

Just read this for my library‘s book club and I could not put it down.
It is based on the true story of several women during and after WWII. This book felt honest and led me to empathize for two of the main characters. I was not expecting to despise the other main character but it fit so well and I am glad the author chose to include her story.

This past week was one of the worst that I‘ve had so it took me much longer to get through this book than normal making it late to go back to the library but it‘s worth the late fees.

This book was full of suspense, switching back and forth between time periods without giving much away. The book ended with many questions unanswered but it worked well. I really enjoyed this.

Fiction does not normally freak me out but as I was finishing this at night I was dreading having to take my dog out.
I find vampire stories to generally be a little cliche but as per usual Stephen King sucked me in.

This was a quick and easy read and so worth it.
Ron Stallworth managed to run an undercover investigation of the KKK as a black police detective preventing cross burnings and gaining intel into the Colorado Springs chapter during his investigation.

Pittsburgh is my home. I worked in Squirrel Hill for nearly 4 years among the loving and kind Jewish community that resides there. My heart hurts.
I really can‘t comprehend how someone can live with that level of hate in their heart.

Reading usually takes me away from the world but sometimes, like now, it serves as a reminder of the present.

I love Betty White but I did not like this book. I was expecting it to be funny but I was greatly disappointed. Not only did it lack amusement but it felt like a lot of rambling and poor organization.

My current read in honor of the 200th anniversary!

After loving Helter Skelter I have read a couple other Bugliosi books with high hopes but they just don‘t live up to it.
I was engrossed in the first 2/3 of this book but in the final parts I found myself growing bored and constantly flipping forward to see how much I had left. He rambles too much and loses my attention.

This book bounced back and forth among both multiple people and multiple times which was often confusing and slowed down the story. Even with this I enjoyed this take on a post apocalyptic world.

I am only half way through but this book is so aptly titled as outrage is exactly how I feel reading it. The prosecutors and the judge are so incompetent it‘s hard to grasp.
I was too young as this was happening to follow it but have grown slightly obsessed with it recently and with the other things I have read and watched it did not seem the prosecutors did poorly until Bugliosi pointed out all the insane lapses in judgement on their part.

I have been wanting to hike the Appalachian Trail for several years now and this book did nothing but feed that desire.
Cheryl headed out of the trail by herself with minimal hiking knowledge and a need to find herself after losing her mother and a divorce.

This book was a captivating and for me an empowering listen. 4⭐️

Getting a little bit of reading in before it‘s time to head off to yet another soccer game

Just finished listening to my first audio book and with how much I drive I‘m annoyed I haven‘t tried them before!
At first I didn‘t know how to feel about this book but I ended up really enjoying although there were some inconsistencies and repetitiveness that drove me crazy. It has a lot of depictions of sexual violence which were also hard to get through.

The computers are down at work today so I‘m taking advantage of this lack of ability to do work.

Picked this up from the library because it was based in my favorite city and I was not disappointed.
Magic, fortunes, gods and all things supernatural fit perfectly in the New Orleans landscape as Jude tries to find a murderer and survive a game of fate and fortunes 🔮

Planning on a bit of a Stephen King marathon for October unless I get distracted at the library which is what tends to happen 💀

I remember hearing about when the girls were found but I had never really payed attention or looked further into the story.
John Glatt does an excellent job telling this harrowing story about these absolutely badass, amazingly strong women.

I have such mixed feelings about this book. Some parts I couldn‘t put down whereas others I couldn‘t wait to get through them.
I didn‘t find any of the characters to be likable and sometimes the writing style could be hard to follow.

Love all the references to places through Pittsburgh but especially love those mentioning my alma mater 💜

This book was creepy and very addicting. The perspective of a flashback story telling through interviews was really well done as it was not choppy and confusing. The ending was disappointing but I wouldn‘t discount the whole book because of that.

Overall I am glad I didn‘t pass over this months #mfmbookcluberinos book as I had planned on!

Got a little carried away with my #bookaweekchallenge and have finished my third.
I didn‘t realize this was part of a series but it actually stood well on its own. The beginning was a little slow but as it got going I couldn‘t put it down.

I guess I need to read the rest of the series now!

This cold and dreary day has me dreaming of being at my favorite book store at the beach 🏝📖

This year I ambitiously took 5 books with me to the beach and managed to come home with 12. I clearly lack self control at this place.

This book was emotional and upsetting and also incredibly written. The author managed to delve into the lives of the killers and what brought them to this point while also telling the stories and the victims and survivors.
With all the misinformation that still remains popular Dave Cullen sets the story straight
