Once I starting reading to catch up, I could not put this down. I had to finish! This is a new genre for me & I loved it. A whole different take on Cinderella. Ash has agency; Grief spurns her on; Ash grows into her own. True to the traditional Cinderella fairy tale, Ash is mistreated by her cruel stepmother. But she experiences kindnesses along the way: Beatrice, Gwen, & Kaisa-this helps her break away.

This is interesting!
The illustrator is a master of Russian decorative art, one of the last most impressive artists in the great Russian tradition of book illustration. He left Russia after the Revolution & settled in Paris. He translated 4 Russian fairytales into French, writing them out in beautiful calligraphy & illustrating them on heavy vellum pages

tpixie which he then bound in red Moroccan leather embossed with Russian motifs. It was a gift to his employer at a publishing house in gratitude for a new life. It was brought to the attention of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, who edited it & published it with illustrations reproduced from the original art. She also wrote the Introduction. (edited) 16h
MariaW I have an older version at home. It is well-thumbed, but very dear. 14h

After cleaning the house I‘m going to settle down a bit and read June‘s #ChildrensClassicRead2025
I have 2 physical books & one ebook.
I also am going to read about Baba Yaga that‘s included in the ebook.

4✨ I love these story‘s for telling stories of villain origin stories. This one follows a brand new story unknown to us until the end when it follows the Tangled version of a Rapunzel story. There is the connection with Circe and the three odd sisters as the other books which ties the series together. Snow White made an appearance too! Not a bad story, but parts of it I wasn‘t quite able to picture in the beginning. #SeriesLove “5/13”

I listened to this book on flights to and from Alaska, and it was the perfect complement to my trip.

BarbaraBB Gorgeous photo 🤩. I am very curious about the book. 2d
Ruthiella Oh yes! I‘ve only read The Snow Child, but indeed she‘s a perfect author for reading Alaska. 2d

Daisey @BarbaraBB @Ruthiella I really enjoyed this, but I‘m not sure I would have rated it as highly if I had never been to Alaska. Reading it while traveling there was perfect. For me it was much more about the atmosphere than the plot itself. 1d
