2.5 ⭐
Maybe my expectations were too high going in to this one, but I didn't really enjoy it at all. I didn't connect with the characters. I didn't understand their thoughts or reactions, or how the relationships between them were built and changed. I also felt like there were some really serious topics (murder, rape, drug use, self harm, trauma) that were flippantly dealt with. I'm gonna give the rest of the series a miss.

4thhouseontheleft Great review. You have me rethinking reading this. 1w

Nice #cozymystery set in 1929 Scotland, when Dandy bundles her family off to take the waters at a nearby Hydro (and investigate a suspicious death).

Murder in Pigalle | Cara Black

(Day 17 - #LostInFrance)

*Best loved PI Aimee Leduc is back in Cara Black‘s popular series. The tagged book is the 14th of the series, where we find a five-months pregnant Leduc trying to solve a series of rapes in Pigalle; meanwhile, in the hot, sticky summer of 1998, French football fans are on the march, eagerly awaiting the World Cup. The book involves a missing teenager, hence my comparison of it with the song prompt.

Cinfhen I love your collages. They tell such a full story 😍‼️ not familiar with this series?! Are you @TrishB @EadieB @Andrew65 # MySeriesSquad 2mo
Andrew65 @Cinfhen I‘ve heard of the author but not read anything from her and not heard of this series. I‘m losing my crown 🙈😱 👑 2mo
TrishB @Andrew65 not to me! I‘ve not heard of these either! 2mo

EadieB @Cinfhen @trishb @Andrew65 I have 7 of her books but haven‘t read them yet! @gradcat (edited) 2mo
gradcat @EadieB @Andrew65 @TrishB Black has about 19 or 20 books in the series, and I thought it was a fairly popular series, but if you three don‘t know it/haven‘t read it...I think I‘m wrong about that. They‘re all set in France & feature a female PI. I have a friend who loves them—I just never got around to trying them...oops! 2mo
gradcat @Cinfhen Thank you very much...I love your nice comments so much! 2mo
EadieB @gradcat We can do a buddy Read of this series if you would like. 2mo
gradcat @eadieb I‘m game—how do those work? 2mo
EadieB @gradcat Looks like book 1 and 2 of the series are not that good but book 3 and 4 have better ratings. I guess we need to read book 1 and 2 for background info so just wanted to let you know. We need to pick a date and then we can post that we are doing a Buddy Read for this series and tag people who we think would interested. 2mo
gradcat @EadieB Yeah, I noticed the same thing as you...had the same feelings. It does look like you need to read them, though...Could we possibly wait until next month? Things are just a bit hectic at the moment...♥️ 2mo
EadieB @gradcat ok let me know when you are ready. 2mo
gradcat @EadieB Any time after July 1st is perfect...you choose what‘s best for you! 2mo
Andrew65 @TrishB 😂 Quite an achievement for neither of us to be aware of a series. 2mo
Andrew65 @gradcat I echo those comments about things being hectic at the moment! I resemble that remark. 😱 Providing I can get hold of them happy to join in towards the end of next month. Next 5 weeks are the busiest of the school year. Finish on 19th July. Will research them. @EadieB (edited) 2mo
Andrew65 Can see why not heard of them @TrishB Library has one of the series only (book 8). Have suggested they buy the first one.🤞And far from cheap with Amazon. @EadieB @gradcat (edited) 2mo
EadieB @Andrew65 @gradcat ok well we can wait and see who can get a copy of book 1 and can start Buddy Read at the end of July. Just let us know when everyone is ready. @Trishb @Tove_Reads 2mo
TrishB I‘ll join in if I can, like @Andrew65 I‘m pretty hectic until after graduation mid July now! @EadieB 2mo
gradcat @Andrew65 @TrishB @EadieB I‘m going along with whatever you guys want...it‘ll be fun, though...I can‘t wait! I did see that the books weren‘t any cheaper for being older releases.... 2mo
Tove_Reads @gradcat @eadieb @trishb @andrew65 My library has it and I‘ll get it soon! - Nope, checked the wrong one. I asked them to get the first one. (edited) 2mo
gradcat @Tove_Reads Yeah, sorry...I think the book I used is her 14th or so...kind of misleading. Sorry for the trouble! 😐 2mo
Tove_Reads @gradcat No worries, I thought I got the first book in the series, but it was the first book in the series that the library had. 2mo
gradcat @Tove_Reads Oh, good! 2mo

Audiospinning! I'm almost done with this audiobook and I am so sad. This book feels like an ending.

silentrequiem @julesG I love it. It spins like a dream. The braid, however, sucks and is partially felted. 2mo

I enjoyed this approximately 10 year snapshot of Mary Glatzle‘s NYPD career from Academy days (1969) to her promotion to first grade detective in 1979. It covers some pivotal cases she was on in her SCU days. That was a super rough time period in NY-a Lot of discussion about juvenile street crime. Also a lot of rape, so this could be triggering. She came on the job at a time when women had different shields and were called Policewomen.

Cinfhen Well done!!! You‘re nearly all “caught up” 2mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 @Cinfhen hahaha thanks!! Truth is, I‘m all over the place, as usual, in life! I can‘t even make a bed without getting sidetracked! 2mo
