Ruthiella Mildred goes on sort of an impromptu double date with the Napiers and Everard Bone. “I remembered my Lenten resolution to try and like him (Everard). It was getting a little easier but I felt that at any moment I might have a setback.” 😂 2y

#pemberlittens #thewatsonsreadalong #chapter10 All is well at Stanton. After reading Mr.Watson endless awful novels, Mrs. Ellingham‘s attentions have cause him to feel well enough join the family from time to time. This was her plan. There is lots of evening fun with Penelope, Dr. Harding, and the Shaw‘s.

Emma begins her tutoring session with Charles. She is impressed with Mr. Howard‘s house and ground given to him by Lord Osborne. 👇👇

MicrobeMom Charles is a typical 10 year old boy and has a hard time concentrating but the lesson goes week. Mr. Howard walks Emma back to Stanton and the have easy conversation until the good bye which leave Mr. Howard confused. Everyone loves the Shaw‘s except Elizabeth does not seem fond of Mr. Shaw. They routinely have playful banter and while I am not for Elizabeth‘s feelings, Mr. Shaw is captivated. 2y
MicrobeMom I will say at this point the writing his definitively different from Austen‘s. Less formal and more modern, but I am thoroughly enjoying it! 2y
Ruthiella Yes, I think the writing here is also quite different from Austen. But like you, I am enjoying the story. It seems pretty telegraphed now how it will all pan out, but we‘ve 1/2 the book yet to go, so I may be surprised! 😃 2y
julieclair No one can match Austen‘s wry wit, and the phrasing of the speech is much more modern. But taken on its own, the writing is just fine, and I, too, am enjoying the story. 2y

Heathcliff is back after 3 years and more drama happens.

This had me turning to Google. "Tell her what Heathcliff is: an unreclaimed creature, without refinement, without cultivation; an arid wilderness of furze and whinstone."

Furze is a thorny evergreen shrub. Whinstone is a term used in the quarrying industry to describe any hard dark-coloured rock.

The Thorpe family continues to be tiresome. Isabella has questionable intentions at best for this friendship as she works her way in to James‘ attention. I laughed so hard when she mentioned “you must think we‘re made for each other” and Catherine said, “no never crossed my mind” 😂

John is so pushy and clueless. The blemish of John in this chapter is redeemed by the time we get with the Tilney family.

It's important to have your backup Pride & Prejudice on CD for those occasions when you need to drive the Pre-Bluetooth vehicle on supply run.
Caroline Bingley is the worst for interubting people who are busy. "Will you give me leave to defer your raptures till I write again? At present I have not room to do them justice."

#hpchapteraday #Chapter10 #Friendship Have you ever wanted to make a good impression on someone so badly that you end up failing miserably? That's Hermione. She is afraid of not fitting in that she goes to the extreme of standing out. Friendship in those tween years is so difficult and heaven forbid you don't look or act like anyone else. Guilt brings these friends together in this chapter, and Hermione can finally feel some acceptance.

Suet624 I loved your thoughts on this. 7y
AndreaReads @Suet624 Thank you! When I first read this book I just thought Hermione was a bossy know-it-all, but this time I got more the impression that as a Muggle-born she's trying desperately to fit in. 7y
