Michelle Adams‘s The Containment reveals how northern segregation—especially in Detroit—was engineered through housing, policy, and district lines, and how Milliken v. Bradley quietly unraveled Brown v. Board. A powerful blend of history, law, and storytelling that shows how past boundaries still shape today‘s inequalities.

I can‘t believe it‘s that time of year again! What should the #hashtagbrigade read next year? We read chapter a day, and we can spread any book over a couple months, so don‘t be afraid to nominate a longer book. I‘ll hold the nominations for a couple weeks, and then open up the voting.

I feel like I‘m not the right audience for this book. A lot of very specific law history that felt too dry. I would recommend it, but it would have to be the right person.

TieDyeDude If you are interested in constitutional law and the Supreme Court, I always recommend the podcast We the People from the National Constitution Center. They can get deep in the weeds sometimes, but the host is pretty good about summarizing various points in plain terms or asking panelists for clarification. 1mo
bio_chem06 I listen to it sometimes, but yes it can also be a little long and dry. 1mo

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ In-depth story of Milliken vs. Bradley, the Supreme Court ruling that overturned a local decision to include suburbs in efforts to desegregate Detroit schools. I live and work in the region, which is one of the most racially and socioeconomically segregated in the country, and can see its legacy every day. I really appreciated the deep dive into the case and the people involved. Dense, but a great read!

I‘ll read anything Lepore writes and her latest, out today, which is about the constitution feels especially timely. I know she thinks originalism is deeply flawed (she‘s right) and that our inability to amend the constitution is a threat to our democracy (again she‘s right). Can‘t wait to read more. I m expecting an informative, compelling and occasionally frustrating/maddening (because politics!) read. Top of the nonfiction pile it goes.

I found Fake Law surprisingly funny, despite the serious subject matter. The Secret Barrister has a wonderful turn of phrase, and doesn‘t hold back in criticising those who deserve it. But even without the laughs, it's a good read, and a crucial lesson in critical thinking and media literacy. Full review: https://keepingupwiththepenguins.com/fake-law-the-secret-barrister/

Most of us know the story line and the outcome and the rave reviews of the wonderful Jodie Cromer she also narrates the audiobook Iv switched between the two , great writing a great story and sadly shockingly true 1 in 3 and how bloody brave those women are no means no

On a spa 🧖‍♀️ break at the amazing Ragdale hall with my dearest friend quality time together and a good book 📕 alternating between reading the actual book 📕 and audio narrated by the wonderfully talented Jodie Cromer it‘s fantastic, audio books are a hit and miss for me depending who is narrating them

BarbaraBB Fantastic book 2mo
