Golden Son
Golden Son: Book II of The Red Rising Trilogy | Pierce Brown
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY NPR, BUZZFEED, AND BOOKLIST With shades of The Hunger Games, Enders Game, and Game of Thrones, debut author Pierce Browns genre-defying epic Red Rising hit the ground running and wasted no time becoming a sensation. Golden Son continues the stunning saga of Darrow, a rebel forged by tragedy, battling to lead his oppressed people to freedom. As a Red, Darrow grew up working the mines deep beneath the surface of Mars, enduring backbreaking labor while dreaming of the better future he was building for his descendants. But the Society he faithfully served was built on lies. Darrows kind have been betrayed and denied by their elitist masters, the Goldsand their only path to liberation is revolution. And so Darrow sacrifices himself in the name of the greater good for which Eo, his true love and inspiration, laid down her own life. He becomes a Gold, infiltrating their privileged realm so that he can destroy it from within. A lamb among wolves in a cruel world, Darrow finds friendship, respect, and even lovebut also the wrath of powerful rivals. To wage and win the war that will change humankinds destiny, Darrow must confront the treachery arrayed against him, overcome his all-too-human desire for retributionand strive not for violent revolt but a hopeful rebirth. Though the road ahead is fraught with danger and deceit, Darrow must choose to follow Eos principles of love and justice to free his people. He must live for more.BONUS: This edition includes an excerpt from Pierce Brown's Morning Star.Praise for Golden SonGripping . . . Both author and lead character have cranked up the emotional stakes. . . . With Golden Son, Brown avoids the sophomore slump, charging the novel with the kind of dystopia-toppling action youd expect in a trilogy ender, not a middle volume. Comparisons to The Hunger Games and Game of Thrones series are inevitable, for this tale has elements of both.Kirkus ReviewsBrown writes layered, flawed characters . . . but plot is his most breathtaking strength. . . . Every action seems to flow into the next.NPRIts a far superior sequel, in fact: one of the rare breed of reads that improves upon its predecessor in every conceivable category. . . . In a word, Golden Son is stunning. Never mind how little weve seen of 2015: Among science fiction fans, it should be a shoo-in for book of the year.Tor.comBrown is a prodigy. As great as the first book of the Red Rising Trilogy is, Golden Son is even better. A wild ride full of suspense, intrigue, and serious ass-kicking bravado, its expertly written and emotionally engaging, with top-notch universe-building that begs for further exploration. Book 2 in the Red Rising series, Darrow has made it past the tests from the first book and finds himself in a series of other tests to gain leadership amongst the golds.

For me, this book dragged a little bit in the middle like the author could not figure out what needed to happen but the ending definitely packed a wallop to keep you wanting more.

1) I play a daily puzzle/word game on my phone every morning. I feel like it helps wakes me up and gets me ready to start the day. At night, I put my boy to bed and hold him for a little bit watching him sleep. His little baby snores and sounds takes all the stress of the day away.

2. I try to, but not always.

3. I need noise. @Texreader that tinnitus is the worst sometimes.

This book is probably my favorite in the original trilogy and I loved it more after reading it again. 💚

Darrow is faced with a tough decision yet again and finds himself the leader of a group that threatens to change everything the Golds have created. The action is amazing in this one and my favorite character, Sevro, has some great scenes.

This book was action-packed. Everywhere Darrow turns, he faces betrayal, complications, and hard choices. It was a good testament to the pain of war & challenges of leadership. At the same time, these characters - including and especially Darrow - spend so much time posturing that it's fairly tiring. It was hard to engage w/the plot at times; yet I continue to find the overall storyline of this series compelling.

rachelm I read the first one and this one and then kind of lost momentum. Let me know if you read the next! 2y

Spent the weekend camping in remote McCarthy, AK. This was the view from our tent, overlooking the Wrangell Mountains and Root Glacier in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park (the largest national park in the country). I didn‘t get much solo reading done but my BF and I finished listening to Golden Son on audiobook since we had a 12 hour round trip drive. We literally finished the book at 12:30 am as we pulled onto our street!

KVanRead Gorgeous. Was just reading about this park in the tagged book and then saw some of it in the Ken Burns doc series on the Parks. Would love to visit - someday maybe in a post pandemic future 😂 For now thank goodness for books. 2y

I know this series has a ton of love but I just don't like it.....I mean, there isn't anything wrong with it, maybe it's just the setting, but I just can't get into it. I though maybe the first book was a fluke because this was recommended to me so many times but... nope. Not for me 🤷‍♀️

Book 2 of this trilogy was even better than book 1. This really does feel like one great big epic and would most probably make a great film series. Can‘t say it always goes the way you expect it to, or definitely want to, but it does make you HAVE to read on. I definitely need to get to the third book before I forget all the action (and there is plenty) from book 2. I think it is the kind of book you could read again & again & still pick up more.

Andrew65 Definitely recommend this series if you like great stories, epics, fantasy, action books etc... Just read them! 3y
