pickI enjoyed this book…and I can‘t even tell you why 🤣! It‘s really weird and raw and full of grit but somehow also wholly relatable. Any mom has had that moment when you are so tired you can‘t think straight and begin questioning everything about your life. Just most of us don‘t grow hair in weird places and start thinking we become a dog at night 😳. I can‘t even properly describe this book…just read it if you want something different. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

pickI had skipped this one originally but decided to give it a go after hearing someone rave about it on a podcast. Overall, I enjoyed it, but I did find it a little repetitive in places and feel like the ending was a bit weak. This is the type of book that should slap you across the face at the end and it just didn‘t do that. A low pick for me.
bailedThe writing is so dry and sterile (?…I can‘t even find the right words) that it is sounding monotone in my head. One of the reviews calls it “funny and bizarre”. When?? I haven‘t felt a shred of humor. Don‘t even get me started on the lack of quotation marks. I also am not in the mood to be depressed, so I‘m bailing and going back to another world. I‘m giving up very early on this one. Fantasy, I‘m coming back home!
pickI liked the symbolism and the outright bitchyness. It really was weird and my kind of book. It would have been five stars if not for my skepticism about the likelihood of the ending.
⚠️Warning animal death does occur. I know for me personally, I'm more sensitive to that than people's deaths.

so-soI thought this was going to be a body horror novel. It kind of was, but I'd say it was more of a magical realism story about motherhood. I think it has a strong message - for people that are not me lol.
I don‘t even think I knew they were adapting this, I have seen no ads for it, and it came out yesterday. I loved the book even though it wasn‘t my particular headspace (it‘s very centered around the way the MC‘s life closes in on her as a mother of young children with a clueless husband, which is relatable for many I am sure) it‘s not playing anywhere near me, so that‘s a bummer
This has been on my TBR forever, had no idea they adapted it to screen! I need to get on it before it comes out, I LOVE Amy Adams❤️

Enjoying the last weekend of my spring break from grad school before the final push. Starting this book with an egg and cheese bagel and some coffee. This afternoon will be spent watching women‘s basketball (go Hawkeyes!)
Today, I'm finding it very easy to relate to the MC of this book, who doesn't quite know who (or what) she turns into at night. Yesterday, I got the new covid booster and a flu shot and must have had a reaction, because at 6am my partner heard a loud noise and woke up to find me in the hallway, having apparently fallen and smashed my face through the drywall, with no idea where I was or how I got there. 😬 I'm pretty scraped up, but okay.
I'm trying to fill in the last few gaps in my #AlphabetSoup challenge for this year (I'm doing author AND title). I haven't managed to read anything by a Y author yet, and I've had this one sitting on my kindle, so... I do love really ducking weird speculative fiction, so this one should be fun.
so-soHurricane weather means that I can finally finish this book and…???? Maybe it‘s because I‘m not the intended audience (over educated, yes, but I am not and don‘t plan on having kids), but Nightbitch just didn‘t hit the way I know it has for other people. Also, I have two black cats and that one scene was almost enough for me to DNF. ⭐️⭐️✨

The mother (aka Nightbitch) has a small son and a husband who works away with a better paid job, so she is now forced to stay at home. Slowly she feels she is becoming a dog and gives in to those primal urges. A visceral portrayal of motherhood, “working” vs “stay at home” and the mindlessness of early motherhood. Despite my initial misgivings, I enjoyed this 👇

It captures how entirely consuming early motherhood can be while trying to reimagine your identity as an individual apart from your child. The mother in the story is losing herself, then unexpectedly begins a strange transformation that puts her in touch with a new powerful sense of self. It is the weirdest book I‘ve read in a long time, but totally compelling.

At about 30% - Wasn‘t sure about it initially, it will probably really resonate with Mothers of young children who can admit that kids (& pets & husbands) are annoying 😂 (no judgement if you are well balanced &don‘t think that) it is not my particular headspace but I‘m enjoying this re-emerging of women being mad af in popular literature.
Still not sure if she‘s turning into an animal or if this is the general body horror of being a woman 💅

pickThis book is so so so weird. It‘s hilarious and sad and full of rage and love, all in a totally strange and unique box. I think every single human being should read this book. That being said, I‘ll never read it again.
