Molly's Game
Molly's Game: From Hollywood's Elite to Wall Street's Billionaire Boys Club, My High-Stakes Adventure in the World of Underground Poker | Molly Bloom
Molly Bloom reveals how she built one of the most exclusive, high-stakes underground poker games in the worldan insiders story of excess and danger, glamour and greed. In the late 2000s, Molly Bloom, a twentysomething petite brunette from Loveland Colorado, ran the highest stakes, most exclusive poker game Hollywood had ever seenshe was its mistress, its lion tamer, its agent, and its oxygen. Everyone wanted in, few were invited to play. Hundreds of millions of dollars were won and lost at her table. Mollys game became the game for those in the knowcelebrities, business moguls, and millionaires. Molly staged her games in palatial suites with beautiful views and exquisite amenities. She flew privately, dined at exclusive restaurants, hobnobbed with the heads of Hollywood studios, was courted by handsome leading men, and was privy to the worlds most delicious gossip, until it all came crashing down around her. Mollys Game is a behind the scenes look at Mollys game, the life she created, the life she lost, and what she learned in the process.

This was fascinating.
Bloom is very much the heroine of her tale. And that‘s ok by me.
She captures the straddling she did between awestruck small-town girl & ambitious entrepreneur perfectly, so the audience can experience it vicariously.
Really great listen.

Only complaint - my version didn‘t have an update on her legal troubles. That should be added for future readers/listeners.

#Movie2BookRecs #jessicachastain 26. The book was a little self indulgent but it was juicy enough to hold my attention. The movie was great and got the second time, I chose a movie with Idris on purpose, because…. You know, he‘s awesome! I‘m determined to finish this challenge for once, all the way to the end.

Klou This is my choice for this one too. I loved the movie, haven't read the book yet though. I have every faith that you'll make it to the end!! Not long to go now!! 3y

It's a fun book! Old, I know. You don't need to know a ton about poker to understand. She runs games and deals with some pretty big personalities. My husband even enjoyed it.

I thought Molly was an incredible entrepreneur and it sounded fun but stressful to run a poker game of that caliber. I probably would have quit long before she did, but I can understand that it would be hard to quit that kind of lifestyle!

Fast-paced memoir following poker-hostess and game runner Molly Bloom from her small town upbringing to high-stakes poker games in NY and LA, where wins and losses run into the millions on any given night. Looking forward to watching the movie adaptation!

Just finished this audiobook — a memoir about Molly Bloom who ends up in the ever odd world of the moneyed powerful elite to run poker games.

It was interesting but there is little in Bloom‘s life that I found relatable so it won‘t be add to my Favorites list any time soon. HOWEVER the one thing I want to share with everyone because I‘m annoyed this isn‘t more well know is the TOBY MCGUIRE is The Worst. Seriously. maybe even nearly sociopathy.

Schlinkles He is the worst! Have you seen the movie? It was pretty good and Michael Cera was a pretty good sleazy imitation of Toby Maguire. 5y
DogEaredBooks @Schlinkles I haven‘t seen it yet (and this is the first time the movie cover pulled me in). I do want to see it though - I love Jessica Chastin— so I‘m glad to hear good reviews! But seriously Toby is the worst! I‘m surprised he wasn‘t more upset about the book/movie (edited) 5y

I‘m calling this book a pick, because I love the story. What a tough woman! And if I‘m honest, I‘m a bit fascinated by Texas Hold ‘Em poker: I tend to watch the big tournaments on TV—BIG guilty pleasure. So all of that works for me. What detracts, and thus distracts, is the writing. There are jumps in the history without segues that can be jarring, plus Bloom is not a writer by trade and it definitely shows. I saw the movie—that drew me to the ⬇️

gradcat ⬆️ book—and as we often note here on Litsy, the movie did dramatize (overly so, and by that I mean fictionalize!!) parts of her story, so I would definitely recommend the book over the movie, even if the book is a bit less exciting. 5y

#AbbaInAugust watched this with my daughter last night , the nature of all addictions is #GimmeGimmeGimme so sad & enlightening to watch the gambling addiction in action. I‘d say the book is good. 👍🏻

I listened to this book, but I wonder if I might have enjoyed it more as a regular book. As an audio book I felt like I was listening to a git complain about the problems she had making millions of dollars. The story was interesting and it was cool to listen to dirt on famous people.

REHill This is one of those special occasions where reading the book first made the movie more enjoyable. ;) I liked both. 6y

One of the six books I bought in the last 24 hours.💀 I normally try to avoid movie covers, but before I knew it I was 84 pages in so I made an exception. Plus it‘s Jessica Chastain and I have an actor crush, fight me. Anyway I‘m loving Molly‘s Game so far, and I‘ll probably finish it tonight!

Picked up this book a few weekends ago after seeing the movie. I couldn‘t put it down! It‘s been a while since I‘ve read a book that I literally couldn‘t put down except to sleep. Molly seems a little full of herself in a few parts, but hey, maybe she had reason to feel that way. 🖤♣️♠️

My two-sentence review for Litsy: Considering its subject matter, this memoir is strangely not compelling. I hope Aaron Sorkin can make something more interesting and artistic out of it.

The media reports will taint some people's views of Bloom & what happened. Some people come off really badly in this book whilst others cruise in, play a few hands then steal off into the night with their winnings. I wanted to know more about the court proceedings and how Bloom battled these. Overall, I enjoyed this book and I will be making my way to the cinema to see Jessica Chastain's portrayal.

The book was ok. The problem is how bad everyone comes off, and Molly Bloom comes off as naive with the world she is dealing in. Toby McGuire comes off as a horrible person.

I will say though, it gives an insight into how some in Hollywood treat those who work for them.
