Pickpick

The introduction starts out highlighting some of the difficulties of translating Gorter, like his penchant for making changes to a lot of words in his own language which are hard to carry over into English.

While the longer ones were beyond me most of the time (I couldn‘t get into them), Haft was able to capture the beauty of Gorter in the smaller ones perfectly:

Like the glance
of a star
on a lake:
her dance.

Question of the Day: Where should we go from here? #QotD

I did an entire month of daily bookish questions. Did you enjoy them? Do you want them to continue? Would you prefer something on a weekly schedule instead? Do you want to suggest questions for the series?⁣

I'm open to your feedback. Let me know.⁣

Question of the Day: What's the worst book you've ever read? #QotD

[ID: daily question in white text on a black and red background.]

BookishMarginalia Hands down, without question. I was forced to read it for a lit class in college. I think I even had to write about it. 🤢 1y
BookBr Probably The Origin of the Species by Nino Ricci — I found the characters so utterly odious I didn‘t even make it through a quarter of it… 1y
BookDragonNotWorm The Last Girl - can't remember the author. The first half was really good, centered around a plane crash, but the second half 🦨. So bad 1y
kathytrithardt Hahahah @BookDragonNotWorm I love the skunk emoji. I don't think I have that one on my phone. 1y
Tera66 A vampire romance called Strawberry 🍓, I listened to it and the narration made it worse😄 1y

90%! Even the hallways have books. The only rooms with out books are the two bathrooms. #QotD @kathytrithardt

LeslieO @BookishMarginalia 👏👏👏👏 1y
Patchshank I don't think I have any in the bathroom. All the other rooms have books. 1y

kathytrithardt I incorrectly counted the kitchen as not having any books when I did my mental count, since they are in a cupboard. 80% - just not the bathrooms. 1y
PhyllisH 86%😄. Does an iPad with a Kindle app count🤔 (edited) 1y
marleed Only my bathrooms due to humidity! 1y
Eggs 💯 % 1y
JazzFeathers All, except the bathroom. 80% l suppose 😜 1y
CindyMyLifeIsLit 90%. Only the bathrooms do not have books. 1y

Question of the Day: What percentage of rooms in your home have at least one book in them right now? #QotD

I did a mental check and it is about 70% over here.⁣

Eggs 💯 % 1y
Deblovestoread 9 rooms, 6 with books and one bathroom has bookish magazines. 😁 1y
rubyslippersreads About 75%. No books in either bathroom, but there is a slightly musty-smelling book on top of my washing machine (my tiny laundry room is dry and hot, which seems to help with that). 1y

BookBr A solid 7/10 rooms, if you count the basement as one. 70% somehow doesn‘t seem right😂 1y
persephone1408 There are books in my den & all 3 bedrooms. So lets say 50% cause none in kitchen other den & 2 bathrooms. 1y
Pogue 79% 7 out of 9 rooms have books in them. 1y

Question of the Day: Do you prefer to buy or borrow your books? #QotD

I know for many of us that it is a mix of the two, but I'm curious where you land on the spectrum.⁣

Tag me in your reply posts so I see them!

Roxanareads I prefer to buy 1y
Karisa I prefer to borrow if possible. However, I‘ve been known to go back and buy a borrowed book I loved or want to share with my classroom library. 😊 1y
