These books are great. They a smart, funny and a cracking good read. Vampires, zombies and black magic what more could you want. This is my new go to series.

I've lost count on how many times I've reread Anita over the years but Kimberly Alexis does a great job on the audio!

Loved it 😍 devoured it even! This series was so good!!! I think this might be my favourite cover for the book. It suits it the most. I like to change the book cover on my app to one I like ☺️

Straight into The Laughing Corpse after finishing Guilty Pleasures. Really enjoying rereading the series, the books are just as good as the first time I read them! I'm not sure how far I'll get with them....I stopped reading the series around book 15 but i doubt I'll get that far this time.

“A choice of monsters.” Action packed. Anita has to fight zombies, a voodoo priestess & several regular bad guys. 🗡🗡🗡🗡 #urbanfantasy

Oh wow this was sooo much better then the first one!! I'm mad that I can't listen to the next one on Otto because I'm out of credits. >_>

Although I'm not taking part in #secretsanta atm, I thought I'd clean up my Goodreads TBR anyway. Think it's obvious which book app I prefer! I have more than 55 books on my Kindle but I've decided to add them once I have read them. Will update Litsy with my Goodreads recommendations tomorrow (some cross over!)

As I read more and more I've realized that I like two things Urban fantasy and series. I get attached to characters and miss them when a series is done. Lucky for me there are a billion series to get lost in.

😂😂😂
This is how Sparrow's review of The Laughing Corpse (on Goodreads) begins. It made me chuckle out loud 😏
I didn't hate this book quite as much as she did, but I too gave it ⭐️⭐️because Anita is really obnoxious and full of herself here, and this much violence without some fun doesn't exactly encourage one to want to read more. Luckily I know it's going to get better and have some more appealing characters soon 😉

I think that if she, like me, had read further along in the series and knew that this wasn't an idle threat, she'd be a lot more scared 😨

it dragged a bit in the beginning but the ending was good. wasn't it expecting to end that way and I'm loving that she's developing her powers more in the book.

The Laughing Corpse—the second installment of the Anita Blake series—is a gruesome one. Laurell pushed the envelope with her monsters and their victims. The whole thing throws the reader into an entertaining whirlwind. I had a hard time stopping the audiobook to deal with the real world (even though this was a reread for me).

Anita kicks ass and Jean-Claude just keeps weaseling his way into the story and Anita's life (and my heart, again, ha!).

BarbaraTheBibliophage I especially love the early books in this series! 3y
Dragon Okay your review has convinced me 😀 3y
Lizpixie I love this series! This is the first time anyone's posted about Anita, I get lots of scoffing when I admit I read these👍 3y
CaitlinSiem @Lizpixie Yeah, I know what you mean. But I love this gang and have since I picked up the first book however many years ago. But I don't care if not many people like Anita, she's an original badass for me haha 😅(so I won't shy away from sharing about her) 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Lizpixie hahaha... It's the series I just can't give up, no matter how many times I say I should! It's truly and original and guilty pleasure. 3y

Today's #augustofpages is romance novels. I'm not generally a romance reader, and haven't been for 20+ years. So my shelves are bare in this regard. These are the closest I come - paranormal romance - before Hamilton jumped the shark in the series. #bookphotochallenge #spinecrackersbookclub

MeganAnn Laurell K Hamilton is one of my favorite authors! Love both her Anita Blake and Merry Gentry series and that she combines so many genres into one story line. Happy to see another fan here 😍 3y
DiruVamp I love her! She's from my hometown too! 3y
ValerieAndBooks Cool! Where do I find this challenge? 3y

CaitlinSiem Awe. I love Anita Blake and crew. 🤗 3y
Gennic I have read all but the last 2 of the series. I really enjoyed them 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @MeganAnn I have enjoyed a lot of the Anita books, but most especially the early ones. I love all the Merry books! Somebody on Litsy was recently reading a book about the Cahokia Mounds outside St. Louis and that's where Merry's Faery is! 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @DiruVamp St. Louis? I lived there for ten years in the 70s and 80s. 😎 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @ValerieAndBooks Look up @spinecrackersbookclub. She posted the image with all the days of the challenge yesterday! 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @CaitlinSiem @Firepxy I definitely love the early ones. Some of the last ones are just too formulaic for me. 3y
DiruVamp @BarbaraTheBibliophage yep! Born and raised! I've seen her speak at a couple of event here in years past and she is so interesting and funny! 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @DiruVamp I'd definitely enjoy hearing her speak! 3y
Gennic @BarbaraTheBibliophage that's why I haven't read the last two lol 3y
Elisa What would you say was the shark-jumping moment/book and why? I have read a lot of the books in the series but I happily stopped, eventually, after being tempted to stop several times. I'm curious to hear what other readers of the series found to be too much 🙂 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Elisa Good question. I can't point to a specific scene. Looking back over my GR reviews, I think it started for me around book 15 (Harlequin). When the balance of necromancy, cop, sex, and vampire politics swung to extremes on the last two I think the series changed. I like all four elements plenty, but the new stories are so light on the first two and I miss those elements. Of course, I still read the books but not on the release date. 3y
Elisa Oh, yeah — the arrivals of the Harlequin is when I took one of my breaks. It was just so convoluted. Always interesting to see what appeals or not to other readers of the same series! 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Elisa I agree. Sometimes I wonder how I'd like the first few books in a re-read. Maybe someday I'll do that, like you are! 3y
