The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy | Douglas Adams
At last in paperback in one complete volume, here are the five classic novels from Douglas Adams’s beloved Hitchiker series. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the GalaxySeconds before the Earth is demolished for a galactic freeway, Arthur Dent is saved by Ford Prefect, a researcher for the revised Guide. Together they stick out their thumbs to the stars and begin a wild journey through time and space. The Restaurant at the End of the UniverseFacing annihilation at the hands of warmongers is a curious time to crave tea. It could only happen to the cosmically displaced Arthur Dent and his comrades as they hurtle across the galaxy in a desperate search for a place to eat.Life, the Universe and EverythingThe unhappy inhabitants of planet Krikkit are sick of looking at the night sky– so they plan to destroy it. The universe, that is. Now only five individuals can avert Armageddon: mild-mannered Arthur Dent and his stalwart crew.So Long, and Thanks for All the FishBack on Earth, Arthur Dent is ready to believe that the past eight years were all just a figment of his stressed-out imagination. But a gift-wrapped fishbowl with a cryptic inscription conspires to thrust him back to reality. So to speak.Mostly HarmlessJust when Arthur Dent makes the terrible mistake of starting to enjoy life, all hell breaks loose. Can he save the Earth from total obliteration? Can he save the Guide from a hostile alien takeover? Can he save his daughter from herself? From the Trade Paperback edition.

Omg! I just finished this fantastic book and the ending was well worth the long wait!!! Such an amazing read and 10/10 recommend if you haven't picked it up yet

TheEllieMo I just bought the Trilogy in Five Parts the other day; I‘ve previously read all 5 books separately, I‘m feeling a need to reread the entire collection very soon - while drinking a Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster, preferably 😆 1w
OneStrangeGuy @TheEllieMo Mmm sounds like a delicious way to reread them! Not sure how much you will remember from the books though haha (edited) 1w
TheEllieMo @OneStrangeGuy I remember a lot about the first couple of books, mainly because I saw the TV series and had the radio show on tape (cassette tape! Remember that?!), the later books I‘m very hazy on so it will be good to reread them 1w

1. Fantasy, urban fantasy, SciFi, & magical realism. Also anything by Gaiman (because he should have his own genre.)
2. I did write a book! I “won” NaNoWriMo in 2013 and 2017, and have various workings of other projects from other NaNo years. But my 2013 novel‘s working title was Project Gen-M.

Cinfhen That passage is so convoluted that it makes my head spin! There are certain books that I really want to read but I can‘t seem to get pass page 5 so instead of actually bailing, I keep them in hibernation( like a bear) hoping to one day thaw them out and try again @CarolynM knows that I OWN many books that are currently in #hibernation😉Does that help @LiterRohde !???! 5mo
LiterRohde @Cinfhen Thank you! I just wanted to be part of the “in” crowd and for the life of me, it went right over my head this time. Thanks for the help. And as a side note, in my sick brain, the convolution is what makes this book so funny. It‘s like some of the passages from A Series of Unfortunate Events. They make my head spin! Love love love Douglas Adams! These stories still make me laugh at loud. I love this flavor of biting sarcasm and miss the days when authors were allowed to decide if there had to be a canon for readers to follow (it‘s always best to ignore contradiction while hitchhiking the universe). 5 out of 5 on GR. Still in love with Arthur Dent. Still wish I could explore the universe.

It was a very happy #towelday knowing that both of my favorite books made the #greatreadpbs list; the other one is "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland". I'm hoping to watch the first episode of the PBS series this weekend, assuming my DVR doesn't kick it off first. (I'm also realizing that I took the picture before I started filling in the boxes - I've read at least a few of them, I swear!)

sprainedbrain My dvr messed up and only recorded half, but you can watch the whole episode on pbs.org 😃 14mo
eri.reads I DVR'd it also. Hoping to watch tomorrow when there's some peace in the house. Lol 14mo
ErikaB @sprainedbrain I found out that it's also on the PBS app - but that creates a dilemma, because I start scrolling through all the other available shows and want to watch all of them, too! 14mo
ErikaB @eri.reads I hope to watch it sometime this weekend, but I fear that I'll once again fall into the classic three day weekend (of which I only got two to begin with) trap and hit Monday night having started a bunch of things without actually finishing any of them. 14mo
sprainedbrain @ErikaB I experienced that same dilemma when I watched it on my Apple TV. Who knew pbs had an app on there too?? 😂 14mo

SaskiAh You know never mind, I was at the pool, so I had a towel with me anyway. 14mo
LiterRohde @SaskiAh Depends if it‘s still 25 May where you are. But it sounds like you have it covered anyway - just in case you need to engage in some hand-to-hand combat. 14mo
