Princess and the Fangirl: A Geekerella Fairy Tale
Princess and the Fangirl: A Geekerella Fairy Tale | Ashley Poston
The Prince and the Pauper gets a Geekerella-style makeover in this witty and heartfelt novel for those who believe in the magic of fandom. Imogen Lovelace is an ordinary fangirl on an impossible mission: to save her favorite Starfield character, Princess Amara, from being killed off. On the other hand, the actress who plays Amara wouldn't mind being axed. Jessica Stone doesn't even like being part of the Starfield franchise--and she's desperate to leave the intense scrutiny of fandom behind. Though Imogen and Jess have nothing in common, they do look strangely similar to one another--and a case of mistaken identity at ExcelsiCon sets off a chain of events that will change both of their lives. When the script for the Starfield sequel leaks, with all signs pointing to Jess, she and Imogen must trade places to find the person responsible. The deal: Imogen will play Jess at her signings and panels, and Jess will help Imogen's best friend run their booth. But as these "princesses" race to find the script leaker--in each other's shoes--they're up against more than they bargained for. From the darker side of fandom to unexpected crushes, Imogen and Jess must find a way to rescue themselves from their own expectations...and redefine what it means to live happily ever after.

This was a fun read. It‘s a modern retelling of The Prince and the Pauper, with a fandom twist. It was an adorable story. I enjoyed it quite a lot. I can‘t wait to finish the series. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Very modern retelling of the Prince and the Pauper that allows you to jump right back into the “Geekerella” world. 4/5 ⭐️

I had to read this book in the Once Upon A Con series before I read Bookish and The Beast. I‘m glad I did. They were cleverly tied together, and I‘m sure Bookish… will be, too. Truly entertaining for this Fangirl, with all its name dropping. I had a blast reading it and can‘t wait to read the next one! #7 #BookSpinBingo #25 #BFC22 #JUMPSTART2022 #SERIES2022 #20in4 #Pantone2022ColoutChallenge SuperSonic #TidyBookshelfDiverseReading #Wintercosy

This was so cute and so much fun, well written, too. I need to read the rest of the series. Started with this one, despite how it‘s the second book in the series. I kinda wish I started with the first, as some of the characters from the first book were mentioned. That said, it‘s still good as a stand-alone. It made me miss BookCon.

I‘m glad I had started this on Friday night because I really needed an escape after last night‘s events. The 2nd in the series, this is a reimagining of the Prince and the Pauper set at a Con. There were a couple of times that I felt the MCs were a bit repetitive in their angst, but then the last half had more action & hijinks. The author captures the feeling of Comic Cons & belonging to a fandom. Lots of LGBTQ+ rep. My #doublespin for May.

Scochrane26 @TheAromaofBooks Thanks again, @twainy for this book. A lot of fun, & I have the last one already on my kindle. It made me excited to go to a Con again (hopefully in September). 3y
Twainy 😁 I‘m so glad you liked it! 🤗 I haven‘t done a Swap since Christmas 😢 3y
Scochrane26 @Twainy I haven‘t either. Usually, Halloween & Christmas are the popular times. I don‘t have any extra $ right now, so I haven‘t participated in recent ones. 3y
Twainy Sigh. No time, low $$ ... so I understand. Probably not this year for me 😭 fingers crossed for next year though!!! 3y

Looking for a fast-paced read, filled with geeky references? The Princess and the Fangirl is the book for you! Imogen wants to save her favorite character, Princess Amara. But the actress who plays Amara wants nothing to do with the part. When they switch places they realize living in each other's shoes isn‘t what they expect it to be. #youngadult

Loosely based on the Prince and the Pauper, this was a fun and cute story. I loved Mo and Jess both, and they had great character growth in this book. Ethan was adorable geeky, and the fact that the whole story took place at the fictional convention was an extra bonus!

Was a very cute light romantic read! I think I expected a little too much since sequels are never as good as the first one. It was still good, but not as good as Geekerella. Definitely still read it though! It's not as good, but still good! 4/5 stars.

I loved this book just as much as the first one - Geekzilla. I listened to the book and was sucked so far into the storyline I listened to it within 24 hours. My daughter used to attend Comic-Con so I could relate to that part. Just a fun and entertaining book.

It just so happened that both my books for February were retellings, and I enjoyed them.

-#BookSpin: The Princess and the Fangirl, a fun, geeky retelling of The Prince and the Pauper ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
-#DoubleSpin: The Beast‘s Garden, a daring retelling of Beauty and the Beast set in WWII-era Germany ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

AmyK1 The Beast‘s Garden sounds interesting. I‘ll have to look it up 😊 (edited) 4y

Though not as strong as the first book in the series “Geekerella”, this is still a cute read. My main criticism is the constant negativity of our two main characters. The last quarter of the book however is great and has me giving this a borderline Pick. #ya 3 of 10 done for #JumpStart2020!

Sigh, I really wanted to like this more... but the two main characters were so whiny! I‘d give it 3.5 stars, the last 25% of the book brought in the .5 star. Lol!

I‘ve been fangirling over the cover + premise of this book from afar for quite a while now, so I was pretttttty excited to have the chance to read it for the second week of New Reads November on my podcast! The Princess and the Fangirl takes a fresh look at the classic “Prince and the Pauper” storyline against the cool backdrop of a fan convention. I had so much fun talking to my guest Rachel Strolle all about it! Link to listen in bio!

My thoughts on this are slightly complicated. Not sure if it's because I didn't read the other books on this series. If you can get past some of the "high school"ness (I know it's YA), it is fairly decent

Loved it! Prince and the pauper with a fangirl and a movie star. I didn‘t read the first book, geekerella. It was fine, but I didn‘t know some of what they were talking about. Plot wise it was ok. It‘s super fun, lots of pop culture references for a nerd like me!

I really need to reread the first book it's been awhile. I'm glad this book is more like a standalone with references back to Geekereela because most of them dont even ring a bell but boy is this cute.I do feel like this one is more cute and I remember the first one being more lol funny with lots of bad language. 😋

The Princess and the Fangirl is true YA, all the characters think everyone else has their shit together and there‘s a lot of internal trash talking. It has a positive message of not assuming, spending time, literally or not, in another‘s shoes to get some perspective. It is very much able to stand alone from the Geekeralla series but I really enjoyed how it brought the previous characters in and told a wee bit of the previous story.

ShyBookOwl I completely agree with your review 👍🏼 5y

This was everything I hoped it would be. Ashley Poston captures that magical feeling of being at a con surrounded by strangers who are family so well. I definitely cried several times from just how accurate it was. It feels authentic and fun. Plus the romances are adorable. I highly suggest reading this and Geekerella for some fluffy YA feels.

Hey Littens! Long time no post! This year has been crazy and I gave myself permission to post (or not to post, and yes I'm owning that pun) on social media only if it felt joyful to do so. (Before that social media was getting to be a big stressor in my life.) But I've been thinking of you all now that BEA is almost here, and I miss you. Who's going to BEA this year?

I didn‘t realise this was kind of a continuation of a series, but the premise sounded intriguing and the book did the premise justice; I was just annoyed for the first half of the book because I wanted to throttle both heroines.

I struggled to get through this. I didn‘t feel connected to either main character and the ending felt so rushed. There was also an overload of multiple fandom references- a few would be fine but there was some sort of reference on almost every page (I know it‘s a book about a Fangirl- but we can talk about more than fandoms 🙄). Also we get it Imogen- you are a gryffindor 🙄).
