The Stone Circle
The Stone Circle: The Dr Ruth Galloway Mysteries 11 | Elly Griffiths
24 posts | 18 read | 11 to read
'My favourite series' Val McDermid DCI Nelson has been receiving threatening letters telling him to 'go to the stone circle and rescue the innocent who is buried there'. He is shaken, not only because children are very much on his mind, with Michelle's baby due to be born, but because although the letters are anonymous, they are somehow familiar. They read like the letters that first drew him into the case of The Crossing Places, and to Ruth. But the author of those letters is dead. Or are they? Meanwhile Ruth is working on a dig in the Saltmarsh - another henge, known by the archaeologists as the stone circle - trying not to think about the baby. Then bones are found on the site, and identified as those of Margaret Lacey, a twelve-year-old girl who disappeared thirty years ago. As the Margaret Lacey case progresses, more and more aspects of it begin to hark back to that first case of The Crossing Places, and to Scarlett Henderson, the girl Nelson couldn't save. The past is reaching out for Ruth and Nelson, and its grip is deadly.

This is my favorite mystery series, and this was another good reading experience. The case echos the one in the first book, and there are several connections to the original story. As always, there‘s just as much happening between the recurring characters as in the mystery. I can‘t wait to see what‘s next for Ruth.

PatriciaU This one was so much better than The Dark Angel. I feel like Ruth got lost a bit in the weird triangle with Nelson & Michelle. Stone Circle brings back to feisty Ruth from the early books. 1mo
MallenNC @PatriciaU I read a description of the next book, and I‘m really looking forward to what happens next. I love Ruth (and Cathbad). 1mo
Hoopiefoot @PatriciaU Yes! I feel the same way. 1mo
PatriciaU @mallenNC - We all should have a Cathbad in our lives! 1mo

I moved in December and my new place has a room for (not quite) all my books. This big chair is becoming my #FavoriteReadingSpot and it will be even better now that I have found this little table where I can put my drink. I hope to finish the tagged book in here this weekend. #SelfImprovementSept

Leftcoastzen Looks like a great spot! 1mo

MallenNC @Seekingtardis Thank you! It was the first new thing I picked out for my place! I had it covered with this material. I love it. 1mo

As always I loved being back with Ruth, Nelson & their archeological mysteries. I wish I was just discovering this series so I wouldn't have to wait for book 12!

RachelAmphlett I only discovered this series in the past year and love it! 3mo

This really has become my favorite series. This most recent book has references to the first book, and takes the reader down some blind alleys that make it more difficult to figure out whodunnit. More archaeology in this book than the last couple, which I enjoyed.

brit91 That's a beautiful picture!😍😎 3mo
AbigailDays Oh wow, did you take that picture? It's gorgeous! 3mo
Lynnsoprano @brit91 @AbigailDays Thanks! Yes, I took it on our vacation last month. It‘s at Anna Ruby Falls in northern Georgia. 3mo

“Why didn‘t you tell me that you knew Leif?” says Judy
“You didn‘t ask,” says Cathbad.

This cracked me up, because I have gotten the same answer so many times from my husband that it‘s a family joke. I showed this to him, and he howled😂

Started this book this morning while I was waiting to see the surgeon for my post-op checkup. Got the best news, that the pathology was negative. So I don‘t have to worry about that and can focus on Ruth‘s latest mystery. (Raided my grandson‘s rock collection for the picture 😂 )

ValerieAndBooks Good news indeed 💖! And having a grandson come in handy sometimes 😊 3mo

Went a little farther afield today, as I feel better and have more energy after surgery. Hubby took me to lunch at our favorite Greek place, then wanted to go to the main library. Who am I to say no?😎 Picked up these two for me. I haven‘t read a Lady Emily mystery in quite a while, and of course l couldn‘t resist the latest Ruth Galloway installment.

Crazeedi I'm adding both! I am reading the chalk pit right now 3mo

I was happy to see this series get back to the archaeology at least a LITTLE bit. I still hate the love triangle and wish she would resolve it!! Happy the series is still going, though, so I guess I shouldn‘t complain too much!!

I‘m always a little sad when I finish a book in this series. Because I get caught up in the story and read quickly, and then it‘s over and I have to wait for a new one all over again. This one was another great addition to the series.

Annl I just started reading the series. I am only on the 3rd book! I love Ruth! 5mo

ARC of the 11rh in the Ruth Galloway series. A 2nd henge is found near the site of the henge from Ruth and Nelson‘s 1st case together. Then both Ruth and Nelson start to receive letters very like those from that case-but the original writer is dead. Things really start to heat up when the bones of a young female are found at the henge site. Love this series-fantastic addition. Interesting mystery and series is moved along well. 4.5/5.0 ⭐️ #2019

Thanks to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishers and NetGalley for a copy of this book for an honest review.

11th installment Ruth Galloway series, Ruth and DCI Nelson are haunted by a ghost from their past, just as their future lands on shaky ground. They have received letters similar to those from the past and Ruth has discovered more human bones during her present archeological dig called The Stone Circle, another henge on the saltmarsh.

EadieB They are the bones of Margaret Lacey, a 12 year-old girl who went missing 30 years ago. The head archeologist is Leif Anderssen, son of Eric Anderssen, friend of Ruth's from years ago. 6mo
EadieB This series needs to be read in order as the characters drive the storyline. My favorite part of the series is reading about the complex situation between Nelson and the two loves of his life, his wife Michelle and his mistress Ruth. Nelson and Michelle are happy about their new baby, George, and decide it's time to tell their daughters that Ruth's Kate is also their sister. The secret is not received too well by Laura and Rebecca. 6mo
EadieB Elly Griffiths is a beautiful writer and I enjoy her descriptions of the Norfolk area and the saltmarsh. Her characters are well-drawn and the plots a mixture of archeology and murder. I'm looking forward to the 12th installment and recommend this series to those who love mystery thrillers from England. 6mo

It‘s a great day when you come home to a book you‘ve been anxiously awaiting. All the way from The UK to VA! Can you tell I‘m excited to start this one???

rretzler I‘m still waiting on mine. Good to know that someone else orders Elly Griffiths from the UK to get it before the US release. I do that with Christopher Fowler and Jasper Fforde books as well! 7mo
JulieAnn I can‘t wait that long for the US release so once I discovered that I could order it, I started with Elly Griffiths. I also ordered The Spotted Dog by Kerry Greenwood from Australia! 6mo
