The Stone Circle
The Stone Circle: The Dr Ruth Galloway Mysteries 11 | Elly Griffiths
7 posts | 5 read | 1 reading | 8 to read
'My favourite series' Val McDermid DCI Nelson has been receiving threatening letters telling him to 'go to the stone circle and rescue the innocent who is buried there'. He is shaken, not only because children are very much on his mind, with Michelle's baby due to be born, but because although the letters are anonymous, they are somehow familiar. They read like the letters that first drew him into the case of The Crossing Places, and to Ruth. But the author of those letters is dead. Or are they? Meanwhile Ruth is working on a dig in the Saltmarsh - another henge, known by the archaeologists as the stone circle - trying not to think about the baby. Then bones are found on the site, and identified as those of Margaret Lacey, a twelve-year-old girl who disappeared thirty years ago. As the Margaret Lacey case progresses, more and more aspects of it begin to hark back to that first case of The Crossing Places, and to Scarlett Henderson, the girl Nelson couldn't save. The past is reaching out for Ruth and Nelson, and its grip is deadly.

ARC of the 11rh in the Ruth Galloway series. A 2nd henge is found near the site of the henge from Ruth and Nelson‘s 1st case together. Then both Ruth and Nelson start to receive letters very like those from that case-but the original writer is dead. Things really start to heat up when the bones of a young female are found at the henge site. Love this series-fantastic addition. Interesting mystery and series is moved along well. 4.5/5.0 ⭐️ #2019

rretzler @AntoinetteBuchanan Have you read her other series, Stephens & Mephisto? I enjoy it as well, although I don‘t find it quite as good as Ruth Galloway. 3w
AntoinetteBuchanan @rretzler not yet but they are on the horizon - good to have recommendation though. Thankyou :-) 3w

Thanks to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishers and NetGalley for a copy of this book for an honest review.

11th installment Ruth Galloway series, Ruth and DCI Nelson are haunted by a ghost from their past, just as their future lands on shaky ground. They have received letters similar to those from the past and Ruth has discovered more human bones during her present archeological dig called The Stone Circle, another henge on the saltmarsh.

EadieB They are the bones of Margaret Lacey, a 12 year-old girl who went missing 30 years ago. The head archeologist is Leif Anderssen, son of Eric Anderssen, friend of Ruth's from years ago. 1mo
EadieB This series needs to be read in order as the characters drive the storyline. My favorite part of the series is reading about the complex situation between Nelson and the two loves of his life, his wife Michelle and his mistress Ruth. Nelson and Michelle are happy about their new baby, George, and decide it's time to tell their daughters that Ruth's Kate is also their sister. The secret is not received too well by Laura and Rebecca. 1mo
EadieB Elly Griffiths is a beautiful writer and I enjoy her descriptions of the Norfolk area and the saltmarsh. Her characters are well-drawn and the plots a mixture of archeology and murder. I'm looking forward to the 12th installment and recommend this series to those who love mystery thrillers from England. 1mo

It‘s a great day when you come home to a book you‘ve been anxiously awaiting. All the way from The UK to VA! Can you tell I‘m excited to start this one???

rretzler I‘m still waiting on mine. Good to know that someone else orders Elly Griffiths from the UK to get it before the US release. I do that with Christopher Fowler and Jasper Fforde books as well! 1mo
JulieAnn I can‘t wait that long for the US release so once I discovered that I could order it, I started with Elly Griffiths. I also ordered The Spotted Dog by Kerry Greenwood from Australia! 1mo
