chilling and thrilling. Finished this in 6 hours
Oh. My. God. By the time I got done with the first two chapters, this book had its claws dug in deep, I couldn‘t put it down! I recommend reading this book at the same time as a friend, there are so many emotional twists and turns in this novel that you‘ll need to talk about with someone, especially the ending..
5-21-23: My 56th finished book of 2023! This was disturbing on many levels. Lowen, a struggling writer, accepts a job offer that could change her life. She is hired to complete the remaining books in a series started by the famous author, Verity Crawford who has been injured in an accident and can‘t finish them herself. She is tasked with going to Verity‘s home, by her husband Jeremy, to go through her paperwork and what she finds is jaw dropping.
This was my first Colleen Hoover book and one of the few romance-suspense novels that I‘ve read. I think Hoover is a good writer, though I don‘t think this was particularly my genre. Without giving anything away, you should know that there are some sad events involving children. Oh and there is sex. Lots of sex.
Even though romance-suspense isn‘t my preferred genre, I did think it was pretty entertaining.
I really liked this one! Maybe some aspects were predictable, but the ending is jaw-dropping. It was a little sad that it was left open-ended, but it also really worked. I would 100% recommend this after reading trigger warnings if you need to. You'll be saying "what the fuck" every few minutes. 5/5
4/5 🌟
Not the most believable plot but I liked it because it kept me entertained and I couldn't put it down. It would've been better without the twist at the end.
🎉Just finished this book🎉 ⭐⭐⭐
I feel like I need to take shower.....
I don't hate it but didn't like it at all... In what universe anything that happened in there makes sense. The entire story seems like psychotic erotic fever dream.
Well if you are into that, the book is an easy read perfect to finish in one sitting.
Sorry to the fans, I'm not trying to be disrespectful but this is my first book from the author and I wasn't ready.
How do you feel about Colleen Hoover? Do you like her books or do you think that all her books are the same? (Controversy)
I put reading this off for a longggg time!!! But I instantly fell in love with the characters. Minus Verity… like what the heck? 🙄🙄🙄
But holy plot twist???
I‘ve gotten really tired of people asking me if I‘ve read this, and since the last CoHo I read was “Layla,” I feel compelled to rinse that from my brain. I have to say, I just…don‘t get the hype. But it‘s fine so far, and it‘s a fast read. So, we‘ll see: I know there‘s some major twist eventually, but…I just don‘t think she‘s really my bag, and that‘s okay. I‘m glad she‘s gotten other people to love reading. #verity #colleenhoover #coho #hypedbook
Crazy and creepy. Insanely ridiculous and improbable. Implausible and kind of revolting. (Like how did she fake the brain scans?..)
Chilling is the best way to describe this book. There‘s romance & suspense too, but after finishing the book the same day I bought it …”chilling” is the only@word to come to mind. Read it!!
I haven‘t read a book this fast in quite awhile! The twists and turns in this had me on the edge of my seat. I do think that the opening scene was not really necessary, and there was way more sexy stuff than I expected in a thriller. I‘m now curious to read one of her other books, as I know this is not her typical genre.
#readysetread @Clwojick
This book is a mindf*ck. Seriously. I got so drawn in I finished it within 24 hours. Now I need something light & easy to read next. Phew.
It‘s been way too long since I last finished a book in less than a week. This one made me able to do so once again✨
In this novel, the author (Verity) the main character (Lowen) ghostwrites for is framed as the antagonist. When Lowen arrives at Verity's house to go through her notes, she finds a manuscript/auto-biography Verity wrote that details her evil inner dialogue and reveals her to be a manipulative psychopath. However, in the end, Lowen finds a letter that reframes her perspective once again and leaves her wondering if Verity is the villain after all.
I thought this was disappointing. Character development was not great and the plot was over the top. I get what the author was trying but the execution was clumsy.
I made the mistake of starting this book one evening, and COULD NOT put it down, I NEEDED to know what happened. Some may say it's predictable but, I really liked the thrill of it having not read many books in this genre. If anything, give it a try its a quick and easy read.
This book will probably continue to affect my sleep for the next coming weeks but I don‘t regret reading it . This nail-biter book will keep you on your toes and questioning your judgments on every character and every thing that has happened. It was highly recommended to me by a friend and it did not disappoint. Reading more of Colleen Hoover‘s books and I haven‘t regretted it once.
Was an easy read and I enjoyed the twists towards the end. #summary- Lowen is an author called to finish the book series of Verity Crawford (a very successful author- bed ridden due to a brain injury). Lowen hesitates on the opportunity, but due to money issues after the recent passing of her mother she is out of options. She heads to the Crawford home where she locates a horrifying manuscript detailing Verity‘s evil manipulative past.

i‘m not gonna lie, i lowkey ate this up. i don‘t think colleen hoover‘s writing is anything amazing, but i enjoyed the intensity of this book. wasn‘t a fan of the ending. i‘m not sure i enjoyed reading a novel where i have no idea what‘s real and what‘s not. also the entire opening scene was not necessary. while some aspects lacked in depth and characterization, the suspense locked me in. overall a captivating read.
My mother in law suggested this one to me and she said there‘s a twist at the end. I started reading in my spare time. Soo far pretty good… a little vulgar for my taste (making it a little awkward that it came so highly recommended from my mother in law 😅)- still hanging in there for the plot twist!
In this New Year I have taken a resolution of reading at least 4 books every month. And as we usually fail to stick to our resolutions, I was skeptical to share it at first. But after maintaining the same for 2 months I am happy to share that I have indeed read 4 books in January and 4 so far in February. This method also motivates one to get out of a reading slump. My Jan reads were: Ugly Love, The Silent Patient and these two. Happy Reading!!
Two very quick reads..3 ⭐️ for each! Definitely not literature - but enjoyable🤔and both rate high on Goodreads.
Hope your into a good book at the moment!
This book wasn't like anything else I've read from Colleen Hoover! It was unique and thrilling. It kept my attention from beginning to end and I couldn't put it down!
I recommend this book for anyone looking for a good mystery.
📖📚Happy Reading!📚📖
I didn‘t like this at all & only finished because my friend wanted to discuss it. The plot was absurd in multiple places and the trauma not meet cute was very over the top. Lowen & Jeremy had zero chemistry & for a romance writer, Hoover wrote some really boring sex. Hoover‘s a marketing genius but I won‘t been reading more. 😴😴😴😴😴
I finished reading Verity 2 days ago, and I can honestly say that this is one of the books that stays with you. It grips me from the first chapter and I literally read it in one sitting. I especially love Verity, her chapters are golden and terrifying in a cringe way.
For me the ending is so unnecessary, I even googgled the general responses from other people after finishing this book 😅😅
Overall, a 4 ⭐ read for me
I read this merely to protect a friendship. I didn‘t want to read it but my fellow book lover was effusive. She handed the book to me with such delight as if it was a treasure. Now what do I tell her? I don‘t want to pan it but…the best part was reading the 1 star reviews on Goodreads. A thriller/erotica that was just bleh.
#currentread I‘ve been reading steamy romances all weekend lol it‘s time to switch it up! It‘s my last night in NOLA, I‘m worn out from all of the walking and the 🍹 so I‘m taking it easy in the hotel tonight!
It was a close call for January‘s favorite, but I had to go with Verity. I‘ll be interested to see how far it makes it on the bracket this year!
This was the first Colleen Hoover book I‘ve read and wow. This book had me pausing and say “what the actual fuck” so many times. So many tragedies crammed into a single book. Once I started reading this I could not put it down.
A soft pick. I never thought I‘d read a Colleen Hoover book as her others seem to be focused on themes like domestic violence “romance” and that‘s just a no for me lol.🤮 But this domestic thriller got passed around during a group trip to India and it was a surprisingly entertaining guilty pleasure.🥴 Dark, fluffy, sexy. Like binge-watching a new series with a bowl of popcorn and a glass of wine. #pop23 a self-published book
I feel flummoxed. This was my first Hoover and while I give it props bc I flew through it (in 4 hours), I don‘t know what that says about the quality of the writing. What started as epically dark just got cartoonish as the pages went by and don‘t get me started on the lack of characterization & the over abundance of porn. Seriously. Every chapter porn. And not even good porn, like Wattpad-porn. 😂🤷🏻♀️
I‘m thinking Hoover‘s not for me.
A fast book to read that offers some degree of entertainment. The plot is interesting, even though the final twist is quite predictable.
I didn't find the characters very well developed, or their story believable. When it comes to love/crush of both women for Jeremy, the only thing that come to mind is "immature teenage style".
It had the potential to be far much more...
One of the best books ever with an ending you expected but did not expect!
