I just don't know how to rate this book. I can list 20 things I love about it, and one that i don't...and somehow that one outweighs all the rest. See spoiler below.

LaraS Faking brain damage, srsly? Verity outwits doctors, nurses, brain scans, family, for MONTHS, then Lowen comes along and figures it out in a couple of days? I can usually suspend my believe system, but this just didn't work for me. Not to mention, regardless of which “truth“ you believe, how is faking brain damage the best solution? It's such an integral plot point I can't get over it. SO many great thing about this book, but couldn't get over this 2d

This was a great thriller with romance. The story of a writer who is hired to finish an incapacitated best selling novelist‘s best selling series. It dives into the dark story of the novelist‘s family tragedy. I highly recommend! #suspense #romantsy

As a mother of a toddler, Verity was so hard to read at times 😭 I had to put it down several times to walk away and process so could push through. This book is going to haunt me for a long time. Colleen Hoover is a genius 🤯

After seeing this on all the book pages I follow I had to give it a go. There were some disturbing parts that I just had to tell myself weren‘t real but this book left me like WOW!!! It took some time when I finished it to wrap my head around it. Very on the edge of your seat!

Okay I'm still reading Verity. When Laura reads Verity's autobiography and Verity hates her babies ? I'm fuming! I put down my kindle and I'm just like, "dude wtf?"

audraelizabeth I think thats part of why i disliked it so much. I want kids and haven't found someone to have them with yet so the idea of hating and being jealous of your own children bothers me. 2w

Insanely different from any other Hoover novel I‘ve read in such a good way. This thriller was page-turning and made me desperate for answers. This one was really nice for mindless reading before getting back to heavier reads.

While this book was a bit of a departure from Hoover‘s typical genre, it still had the markings of her signature writing style. Not gonna lie though, this book was quite a disturbing read. It kept me interested, as most of Hoover‘s novels do, but it also had some ridiculous plot holes and twists that were hard to ignore. Still, I admire when a successful writer goes outside their comfort zone to try something new.

Book club tonight. We discussed Verity. This pic was one of the bloopers before we got a good picture. 😂😂 Yes, we are wearing matching shirts made by one of our members.

ljuliel I like your matching shirts and it‘s a cute picture. How‘d everyone like the book ? I haven‘t read it. 1mo
BeaG @ljuliel everyone liked the book. The differences came in what we believed was true and which characters knew what. That probably doesn't make sense as I don't want to say too much for those who plan to read it. We all agreed that we couldn't put it down because we wanted to know what was going to happen next. 1mo

I love books with unreliable narrators but like this went beyond that.

I‘m questioning if the narrator is unreliable, if ALL the characters are unreliable, if my own understanding of this book is unreliable!

😱🤯

You just have to read it for yourself to even understand what I‘m saying to you.

I have mixed feelings about Colleen Hoover's Verity, some of them, I'm sure, due to the fact that it's been SO hyped all over social media. This is a novel that bridges genres--it's a romantic suspense thriller with a book-within-a-book (love that structure!). Hoover's writing is solid, and the protagonist and her romantic interest are appealingly flawed. ⠀

Verity definitely gave me vibes similar to Daphne du Maurier's fabulous ⬇️

UnabridgedPod Gothic novel Rebecca: both feature an idyllic first wife, a handsome and mysterious husband, and a young and (somewhat) innocent woman who struggles to live up to the husband's first love. My biggest issue was my high expectations: I have read romantic suspense like this before, and I would place Hoover's book near the top of that stack. ⬇️ 2mo
UnabridgedPod I just expected more (which is, I admit, probably not fair). The book offers twists and turns, some effective surprises, and lots of sex. It just didn't surprise me enough to meet my expectations. 2mo

Can someone explain to me why Verity is in the romance category?? I wanted to vote for it as it was one of my favorite books of 2019 but I couldn‘t vote for it as a romance novel. That book terrified me!

One of the few books i picked up solely because of the reviews. Especially the ending & the talks around it piqued my interest. So what do i really think of the book?

Likes:
1. Fast paced
2. Smooth, tight Writing style
3. Interesting characters

Dislikes:
1. One too many Sex scenes
2. Evil for evil's sake.
3. Airhead heroine
4. Not much of a story

Verdict: If you want some insight into a messed up brain & relationships, this book is for you.

I finished this last night. Read it in a single night because I couldn't put it down!
I'm in such a dazed shock right now. I did NOT see that ending coming.
The entire book, I felt a growing, deep seated hatred for Verity and then those last two chapters threw everything I thought I knew into a complete frenzy of confusion on who the real Verity was.
Such a entrancing read!

People describe this book as being a mind-f***k and totally twisted. Maybe I just read a lot of dark books, but I didn't think this book was nearly as crazy as everyone says it is. It was pretty entertaining, though. It was good enough to keep you engaged as you waited for the wtf moment, that sadly never came. The ending wasn't *quite* what I predicted, so bonus points for not being totally predictable. Not bad, but not great.

I liked this book and it kept my interest, but it wasn‘t as great as I expected it to be. The ending felt rushed and a lot of stuff was left unresolved. I had some ideas about how it could and it felt a bit anticlimactic to me. I like the way the ending posed a question to get into the readers mind and I enjoyed the characters a lot. I liked this book a lot, I just bought it could have had more to it.

This book had me shook! It's part thriller, part romance. A big deal author is in a vegetative state after a crash, and her husband brings in another author to finish her series.
