Daisy Jones & The Six
Daisy Jones & The Six | Taylor Jenkins Reid
A gripping novel about the whirlwind rise of a world-famous 1970s rock group and their beautiful lead singer--and the secret reasons behind their dramatic break up. Daisy Jones is a beautiful, broken girl growing up in L.A. with rich parents who barely know she exists. . . . But when she sings in a crowded, smoky club, you can hear a pin drop. All she wants is to write her own songs, but the record studio has its own ideas. It's the early 1970s and free love and drugs are everywhere, and Daisy wants to experience it all. Billy Dunne and his brother have a band called The Six that won't be playing weddings for long. They are ambitious, hard-rocking, hard-partying. When they land a record deal, Billy's girlfriend follows them to the west coast and life begins. But she finds out she's pregnant on the eve of their first tour, and the pressure of fatherhood and incipient fame make Billy go a little crazy on the road. Daisy and Billy's paths cross when a manager realizes that the key to skyrocketing success is to put them together. But oil and water don't even begin to describe how they mix. . . . And what happens next will become the stuff of legend. Written in the style of an "as-told-to" rock autobiography, Daisy Jones & The Six is an unforgettable ride.

In my opinion, the real antagonist in Daisy Jones and the Six is the band members' addictions. Daisy is addicted to all kinds of drugs and it often leaves her vulnerable to being hurt, and Billy Dunne, the leader of the band, is sober but constantly tempted to start using drugs and alcohol again. There is no one person who's the antagonist, instead, it's their temptations and addictions that are harming them.

I kept hearing how great this book is,and the audiobook was the way to go. What I huge disappointment. I hated the characters, every single one of them. The story line was boring, repetitive, and so stereotypical. Just sex, drugs, and rock and roll but no real depth to the story or characters so I bailed at 44%. Maybe I should've stayed with it, but days later I still have no desire to pick it back up

K.Wielechowski I felt the same way. I did finish it and the end did help redeem it a bit but definitely didn‘t live up to the hype. 1w

Finally got around to reading this, since there is now a show. I loved it. The writing style made it really fast paced. I only wish there was a soundtrack to go along with the book. Hopefully the show does the book justice.

Anyone else watching Daisy Jones and The Six? Such a Fleetwood Mac story, I love a good rock tale. Well cast. 🎶 🎸 💔

March‘s Book club Pick ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ My book club chose this book because of the series coming out on Prime. I‘m so happy we picked it because I loved it. Truly enjoyed the way this book was written, the interview style. Loved the story and the characters so much. Carefree Daisy, determined Karen, strong Camila, loyal Simone just a group of inspiring women. 🖤🤘 #marchbookclub #bookclub #rockandroll #daisyjones #camiladunneisthemaincharacter

I think this is the author‘s writing style for me, I don‘t like those characters at the beginning of these stories. Taylor bring out the worst qualities of a human being and then...everything changes. Another one I was going to put down. I‘m glad I didn‘t. It could be boring but if you put your mood like this is the story and gossips of this band and see that some of these stories can a happen in a real band, you would like it. 3.8⭐️⬇️

Gissy Mick Rivas from Malibu Rising is mentioned in this story.
5th and last book read for #AuthorAMonth @Soubhiville I‘m glad I could read all the books I owned by this author. I‘m interesting to read other two books by her but I don‘t owned them. I‘ve posted this book before but I re-read it since the show is coming out in a week or so, and I still love it. the format of the entire book being an interview with all the band members and surrounding people years after they broke up mid tour and were never seen together again. CHEFS!! KISS!! The characters are so complex and well written and their rock n roll world is immersive and enchanting. love all the characters, can‘t wait for the show.

I‘m finally starting to listen to this book. Just in time for the March TV adaptation & February‘s #AuthorAMonth

I‘m hoping I enjoy the story, but I think one of the best parts about this is how so many people got confused thinking this was about a real band and not a novel.
Even the “author” in the author note at the beginning was a character, which made you really think it was true!

( I really dislike this cover).

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I ended up loving it, but it took me a bit to get used to the way it‘s written 💞 I just have in my mind that Daisy is Stevie Nicks! 🎶 4w

marleed I hope the adaptation is true to the book where the viewer does not know the viewer is Camille‘s daughter until the end. I think it‘s everything to the story and explains why the reader is compelled to be team Camille. My mother died when I was two. The stories I heard of her made it impossible for me to live up to her memory - I even chased her stories by attending her college states away from my hometown - I got one great misbehaved story! 4w
tpixie @marleed yes! It will be interesting to see how they play it out. 4w

Told in a transcript format, looking back at a chart-topping rock band from the 1970s from the POVs of the band members, producer, agent, studio head, and others close to them.
I‘m kind of on the fence if I liked it or not. The beginning was interesting, the middle made me question if I even liked any of the characters, the ending brought it back around. I did like the format, made it a fast read.

tpixie I‘ve got 20 minutes on my audiobook, then I‘m going to do the audio of this for #authorofthemonth I‘m cutting it close for February! 4w

My 2nd TJR in a row and her ability to create such realistic characters is *chefs kiss*. I didn't care much for Daisy, but I just wanna hang out with Karen and Camila, to drink wine and listen to Fleetwood Mac.
Once I got used to the writing format, this was fun. The transcript style is actually very clever for this story.
I had to keep reminding myself that this wasn't a real band. Since I started this, my "Rumours" vinyl has been on repeat!

marleed I often think of this book, Camilla, particularly and then of my mother. When I got to the end of this book and realized the interviewer, I immediately reread. Of course Camilla comes out so good - everyone is talking to her daughter. My mother died when I was a toddler so I have no memories of her. But the stories - I was convinced she was a saint. I went to her alma mater and finally heard an unflattering story -I treasured that story! 4w
jamield1993 @marleed that's a really interesting point actually! I hadn't thought of that! I also loved Warren, I think he was so light hearted and provided some relief to the entire band. 4w
marleed It‘s such a spoiler that I seldom make that comment, but something I think about every time I walk by my copy of this book. I‘m very curious to know if the adaptation keeps that ending because I think it‘s significant to how the characters are portrayed. 4w
jamield1993 You're 100% right. We do tend to portray the dead as saints. I may have to reread with what you've said in mind. I'm excited for the series now though. Have you heard the song? I'm hammering it on Spotify, it's driving my other half mad 🤣🤣 4w

Brilliant. This book is full of characters you want to love as a reader who are unsure why you love them and why they love each other. As a music enthusiast, it has me reaffirming my belief that songs are never just songs. I laughed. I cried. And when I finished, I stood and applauded, much to the chagrin of my dog. So thankful that a student recommended this to me.

I liked it. Not my favorite of hers but it is good. I think there was a small pacing problem, because she spent 100 plus pages on the making of the album and only about 20 on the famous break up. But I liked the story and the structure. I think the parts I didn‘t like were “me problems” because the 70s rock n roll drug use was just not a era I wanted to spend much time in I will definitely watch the tv show and more of the author #authorofthemonth

didn‘t quite hit the mark for me. the oral history format was great, and I did like the ending. but I didn‘t really like or care about any of the characters (other than Simone, the best friend we all deserve - but she wasn‘t in the book nearly enough). the drama within the band was entertaining, but it didn‘t really feel like there was an actual plot.
