The Rosie Project
The Rosie Project: A Novel | Graeme Simsion
Now in paperback, the international bestselling romantic comedy “bursting with warmth, emotional depth, and…humor,” (Entertainment Weekly) featuring the oddly charming, socially challenged genetics professor, Don, as he seeks true love. The art of love is never a science: Meet Don Tillman, a brilliant yet socially inept professor of genetics, who’s decided it’s time he found a wife. In the orderly, evidence-based manner with which Don approaches all things, he designs the Wife Project to find his perfect partner: a sixteen-page, scientifically valid survey to filter out the drinkers, the smokers, the late arrivers. Rosie Jarman possesses all these qualities. Don easily disqualifies her as a candidate for The Wife Project (even if she is “quite intelligent for a barmaid”). But Don is intrigued by Rosie’s own quest to identify her biological father. When an unlikely relationship develops as they collaborate on The Father Project, Don is forced to confront the spontaneous whirlwind that is Rosie―and the realization that, despite your best scientific efforts, you don’t find love, it finds you. Arrestingly endearing and entirely unconventional, Graeme Simsion’s distinctive debut “navigates the choppy waters of adult relationships, both romantic and platonic, with a fresh take (USA TODAY). “Filled with humor and plenty of heart, The Rosie Project is a delightful reminder that all of us, no matter how we’re wired, just want to fit in” (Chicago Tribune).

4/5
Charming and funny book about Professor who is on the spectrum looking for a life companion. I found the MC relatable (besides him not being able to do the same), and the story a bit predictable but charming. It was an easy and fun read. Recommend to those wanting a lighthearted book for summer.

This was a recommendation from a Summer Reading Guide. I appreciated that the author didn‘t treat his character negatively due to his non-neurotypical characteristics and it was quite cute to see him interacting with the love interest. It was probably even more funny to me because I not only know people like the main character, I probably am the main character sometimes. 😂

Such a heartwarming, adorably funny rom-com. Felt like a bit of a mix between Eleanor Oliphant and Helen Hoang's The Bride Test (though without explicit sex, so this may be a good choice for you if that's not your cup of tea!). ❤️

In honor of Autism Awareness Month, what are your favorite books that feature a character with autism? These are mine. My two oldest kids are on the spectrum so I always love reading stories with characters like them!

Emilymdxn Non fiction rather than fiction but I thought this one was an incredibly readable well written account of the history of understanding and diagnosing autism and the history of discrimination people have faced. In The Rosie Project, Graeme Simsion brilliantly develops his protagonist Don, a scientist who had difficulty with social situations. Don has decided that he should find a wife, and he develops a survey that he thinks will identify the perfect woman. Meanwhile, Rosie enters his life. (continued in comments)

Unabridged While the book is a romance, it's more about the vivid articulation of Don's perspective and thoughts as his logical assumptions about the world are challenged. Can't wait to discuss this one in our Unabridged May Book Club! 2mo

This book was engaging and cringeworthy all at the same time! And I loved it!! Don stumbles through situations that most wouldn‘t blink an eye at, making you want to cover your eyes as you read. This book was absolutely brilliant! I‘m so annoyed I didn‘t read it earlier. The writing is so clever & I love how the book changed my perspective (without me even realising it at times). I loved that it was set in Melbourne, Australia (where I live!) & I loved most of the characters, which is rare for me!

I‘m keen to get stuck into the second book, The Rosie Effect, although I‘ve heard it‘s not as good.

This audiobook was recommended to me as a good beach-read, and I completely agree. It's lighthearted with a feel-good ending. I didn't find it uproariously funny. But there were some LOL moments, usually created by Don Tilman's inability to see the world as most other people do. I predicted the ending about halfway through the book, but getting to the conclusion was still entertaining. Save this one for when you're going on a holiday.
