Complete Poetry of Edgar Allan Poe
Complete Poetry of Edgar Allan Poe | Edgar Allan Poe
64 posts | 35 read | 8 to read
Explore the transcendent world of unity and ultimate beauty in Edgar Allan Poe's verse in this complete collection. Although best known for his short stories, Edgar Allan Poe was by nature and choice a poet. From his exquisite lyric "To Helen," to his immortal masterpieces, "Annabel Lee," "The Bells," and "The Raven," Poe stands beside the celebrated English romantic poets Shelley, Byron, and Keats, and his haunting, sensuous poetic vision profoundly influenced the Victorian giants Swinburne, Tennyson, and Rossetti. Today his dark side speaks eloquently to contemporary readers in poems such as "The Haunted Palace" and "The Conqueror Worm," with their powerful images of madness and the macabre. But even at the end of his life, Poe reached out to his art for comfort and courage, giving us in "Eldorado" a talisman to hold during our darkest moments--a timeless gift from a great American writer. Includes an Introduction by Jay Parini and an Afterword by April Bernard

Yesterday was a totally busy bust for me. My dad is visiting and we had our Thanksgiving dinner. I fit in a tiny bit of reading time and some TV. But today will be better. #scarathlon2022 #TeamMonsterMash @StayCurious

I like his short stories better but you can‘t ever go wrong reading anything by Poe. And while it‘s just stating the obvious, ‘The Raven‘ is awesome.

He might not be the most chipper author, but something about his morose works always speaks to me. Also, these cozy socks crack me up. Let it Poe!

Thrilled me—filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before;

So that now, to still the beating of my heart, I stood repeating

“‘Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door—"

The Complete Poetry of Edgar Allan Poe will give you a fascinating glimpse into his tragic life. The majority of his poems are interpreted autobiographically: his achievements, his beloved wives, his losses, and ultimately, his unbecoming.

'Quoth The Raven Nevermore' - E.A Poe

Sometimes I Think If I Read 'The Raven' a thousand times in succession.I Believe It will succesfully find a thousand different ways to induce terror & uneasiness, that too with relative ease.

Bronte_Chintz Brilliant poem. One of my faves, although I now sometimes visualise Bart Simpson as the raven still thanks to that show 😂😂 5y

Day #6 of my 7 days of Poe. One more day left,,,whew. 😓 Took this photo last night, because I‘m currently standing in line to meet the guys of Blue October (and a concert afterwards). 😁 This is ‘The Complete Poetical Works of Edgar Allan Poe‘ (1909)... R. Brimley Johnson/Oxford Edition. One of my favorites, because for 100+ years old, it‘s still in near mint condition. 🤗

GarthRanzz Beautiful edition! And Blue October!! Do they have a new album out or are they just touring? I love their stuff. 5y
mypoesoul @GarthRanzz Thanks! 😊 Yeah, Blue October has a new album coming out in June (called ‘I Hope You‘re Happy‘). They did a couple of songs off of it tonight. Killer concert! 😉 https://youtu.be/FwZvuV79jeY 5y
GarthRanzz Cool! I‘m glad you two had a good time! I‘ll definitely be looking forward to a new album! 😊 5y

1. Lighters. I don't smoke, I just collect them for the beautiful designs.
2. Almost always a naked book. Book sleeves don't bother me that much, but dust jackets are one of my pet peeves while reading. So they come off when i start a book.
3. Usually buy them, library, libby/overdrive app, borrow from my mom, etc. I get my books from everywhere 😄

I've always really loved Poe's poems and short stories, so I'm not sure why it didn't dawn on me until today to re-read some for the #SCREAMATHON reading challenge! Today I read 4 short stories, A Tell Tale Heart, Black Cat, The Fall of the House of Usher and The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar #tistheseason

alisiakae I love Poe too! I actually went to school with a distant cousin of his, once he brought in to school a signed first edition along with his family tree. 😍😍😍 5y
