Wow, @Moray_Reads congrats on the milestone!

One of my most impactful books has to be Siddhartha by Hesse. It didn‘t inspire a life of religious devotion, but it was the first book I read for school that really opened up a new world for me. I fell in love with Hesse‘s writing and started devouring his entire canon. I need to get back to his works, come to think of it. Thanks for the chance to enter!

Moray_Reads It's a shame that so often we seen to hate the books we study at school, I'm not sure whether it's the books or the teaching. I'm glad education didn't ruin this one for you! Thanks for entering ❤️ 12mo

A mans search for knowledge to quench the thirst of his soul is more important than that of his minds desire. I really appreciate the authors work who so evidently did a lot of research to put forth in the book.
This book helped me realise that the verse in Sanskrit which meant "he who toils for his own is not worth learning from but he who toils for the soul is the one you need to seek.

After reading The Little Prince and The Alchemist it seemed appropriate to revisit Siddhartha. There are many connections between the three books and they seemed to be just what I needed at this moment. Hesse writes so simply, yet beautifully- he makes me want to go listen to a river just as Coelho made me want to listen to the desert.

If you liked Paolo Coehlo‘s book The Alchemist, you would love this book. It‘s about one religious man‘s journey to find the right teacher to guide him through life. Little does he come to find that life‘s greatest teacher is Life and Experience. Follow Siddartha as he gains and looses possessions and friends while gaining enlightenment.

This novel follows the journey of Siddhartha and his search for enlightenment. And although i'm not the one for the whole, enlightenment and meditation and inner peace thing, i was pleasantly surprised with this book. This book belongs on the read at least once shelf, whether you're a spiritual or a non-spiritual person, a pessimist or an optimist, everyone should give this book a try.
#GARbingo

Tiyas7 I want to read this book very much. Does the book focuses on Siddhartha's life and works, like a Biography or something? Or is it more of a spiritual kind of Book, highlighting Buddhism?? 1y
sudi @Tiyas7 it's basically his journey right from when he is a child and when he begins his search for enlightenment. The book itself didn't seem very spiritual to me, i also thought it might focus on buddhism but instead it's main focus is Siddhartha, not the religion 1y
Tiyas7 @sudi Thanks for informing !!! I was kinda confused till now😊 1y
See All 19 Comments
sudi @Tiyas7 you should give it a try, the book itself is written in such a simple and engaging way, that even though if you don't find it to your liking, you'll still enjoy reading it just because of the way the story is narrated. 1y
sudi @Tiyas7 😊🙌 1y
Tiyas7 @sudi Actually, I am quite interested in Siddartha Gautama and his journey towards enlightenment. I've read quite a few books on this topic in Bangla, but never in English. Also, the Jataka tales were childhood favourites too😀!! So, I'll surely give it a try👍 1y
sudi @Tiyas7 i think this one is solely fiction, i don't think it's a real story, also there is only like one chapter on gautama 1y
sudi @Tiyas7 i remember the jataka tales, my mother bought me that book along with panchtantra when i was in school, there were all from amar chitra katha publications 1y
Tiyas7 @sudi The Amar Chitra Katha Comics!!! Brings back some fond memories😀 1y
sudi @Tiyas7 yeah, they were the best 😃😊🙌 1y
Tiyas7 @sudi Their was also a TV series based on the comics, I guess😮 1y
sudi @Tiyas7 maybe, which one was it, i could probably remember it from the name 1y
Tiyas7 @sudi I guess, It was a fairly recent one, also named 'Amar Chitra Katha'....however, the comics are always, way better😄 1y
sudi @Tiyas7 i don't think i read them recently, it was mostly as a child that i loved reading them, i bet they are somewhere in the basement in my home. But i loved them when i had them, another comic i loved was Tinkle, i'm getting all nostalgic now 😌 1y
Tiyas7 @sudi Damn it!!!! 'Tinkle'...Nostalgia is contagious 😁😂 1y

Another book from The Great American Read and the 1001 Books to Read Before You Die. Siddhartha is about a young man who goes on a journey of self-discovery. I found it easier to read than I expected with lots of words of the meaning of our existence. Published in 1951 in the US and became very influential during the 1960‘s hippie movement. If you haven‘t read this yet, you should give it a try as it may enlighten you as to the direction of life.
