Jane and the Twelve Days of Christmas
Jane and the Twelve Days of Christmas | Stephanie Barron
23 posts | 18 read | 45 to read
Jane Austen turns sleuth in this delightful murder mystery set over the twelve days of a Regency-Era Christmas party. Christmas Eve, 1814: Jane Austen has been invited to spend the holiday with family and friends at The Vyne, the gorgeous ancestral home of the wealthy and politically prominent Chute family. As the year fades and friends begin to gather beneath the mistletoe for the twelve days of Christmas festivities, Jane and her circle are in a celebratory mood: Mansfield Park is selling nicely; Napoleon has been banished to Elba; British forces have seized Washington, DC; and on Christmas Eve, John Quincy Adams signs the Treaty of Ghent, which will end a war nobody in England really wanted. Jane, however, discovers holiday cheer is fleeting. One of the Yuletide revelers dies in a tragic accident, which Jane immediately views with suspicion. If the accident was in fact murder, the killer is one of Janes fellow snow-bound guests. With clues scattered amidst cleverly crafted charades, dark secrets coming to light during parlor games, and old friendships returning to haunt the Christmas parties, whom can Jane trust to help her discover the truth and stop the killer from striking again? From the Hardcover edition.

Loved how this Jane Austen Mystery begins on Christmas Eve & plays out over 12 Days of Christmas, ending w/ a 12th Night Ball. I've been reading matching day since Christmas Eve. Good solid mystery. Favorite thing - Jane & Cassandra giving their niece fancy outfits for her doll for each of 12 Days. I visited Jane's Hampshire in September, would truly love to see it during the Holidays.#wishfuldreaming #twelfthnight #janeite #12daysofbookmas

Icy roads have kept me at home here in Oklahoma. That's ok. I'm imagining myself in Chawton while reading this lovely book (it's not in Litsy database) proceeds of which benefit Chawton House Museum.

While I had mixed feelings about Jane Austen being a character, this was a delightful Christmasy read and almost a How-To for throwing a 12 day Regency Christmas - with a bit of murder, of course. Nice dose of history mixed with characters that felt straight out of her novels.

Clare-Dragonfly I usually don‘t like historical fiction placing people in situations they were never really in, but this sounds really good! I think it‘s the research that gets me interested 🤓 12mo
staci.reads @Clare-Dragonfly Same. But this one was a pleasant surprise. The writing was well-done too. 11mo

My first Jane Austen Mystery and I loved it! Couldn‘t have been more pleased with the portrayal of my favorite author and her family! It was neat to see the characters of her novels appear in her close connections. Appreciated how Jane wasn‘t a sleuth, but just happened to be where a murder occurred and she wanted to discover the why.

A must read series for any Jane Austen enthusiast!

Librarybelle Such a good series! 2y

This is what Mom, Donna, and I did on the plane ride home to Detroit, MI, from New York City!

Now I‘m safely home and gearing up for the next adventure to visit my nephew.

Such lovely books!! Read for book club Christmas party🎄

saresmoore I liked this one, but couldn't keep up with all of the characters! I think I will try again with one of Barron's Jane books, perhaps at a less distracted time. 3y
LauraBrook I'd forgotten about this series! 😳Thanks for the reminder. And I love these holiday Austen cards! I bought them as a present but somehow they ended up staying with me. 🤔😁 3y

I did not realize that this book belonged to a series. I hope it can stand alone because I want to start reading it! Just in time for the Christmas season!
Has anyone read the series?
#twelvedaysofchristmas #janeausten #mystery

Beckys_Books I've never heard of this series, but plan to look for it my next trip to the bookstore. Have to start with the first one. 3y
SaraRosett I have this book on my TBR pile right now. I read Jane and the Waterloo Map recently. Loved the history and Austen elements. Hard for a woman to be a sleuth in the Regency with the more limited movement of women. 3y
saresmoore I picked this up from the library, but just couldn't get into it. Perhaps too many distractions irl and too many characters in book! 3y
Mommamanzi @saresmoore I had to stop 40 pages into it. I couldn't put my fingers on why I didn't like it but I surely did not like it! 3y
