#Pemberlittens Posting #janeandtheexcellentreadalong
early because I've got a lot on tomorrow.

1️⃣ Invitation to Chatsworth
2️⃣“My good fellow—if you do not leave off that dreadful noise at once, I shall be forced to call you out; and though it has been my habit, in affairs of honour, never to aim for the heart—in your case, my dear sir, I should be sorely tempted.”
3️⃣ Cassandra with the Chamberpot ⬇️

Crinoline_Laphroaig 4️⃣ The End. Last time I read this was for #JaneAndTheYear2020 and I had forgotten. This is normal for me. I remember character storylines but the killer I forget. Which is nice because reveal is a surprise.
5️⃣ Stillroom Maid Recipes. I really enjoyed them tucked into story.
6️⃣ Eat nothing but that doesn't mean I can't have Whisky becore bed. Plus if I have a good night's sleep I feel like I can do anything. ⬇️
3d
Crinoline_Laphroaig 7️⃣ Having had mother who sounded a lot like Mrs Austen I am really good at tuning that out. Really loud music or in this case singing gets on my nerves after awhile.
8️⃣ Picnic in the garden. While enjoyed see the house when we visited Chatsworth, I loved the gardens.
9️⃣ This is one of my favorites in the Series because of having been to Chatsworth I can just see those scenes in my mind.

Crinoline_Laphroaig I really wish you could edit comments on Litsy cause I just saw typo ^Whisky before bed. 🤦🏻‍♀️ 3d
kspenmoll I am still reading ; about halfway through. Will come back when finished! 3d
Crinoline_Laphroaig @kspenmoll no worries! Whenever you are ready. 3d
suvata @Crinoline_Laphroaig Please add me to your list. I am just beginning Stillroom Maid but I‘m a fast reader and I‘ll catch up. 3d
Crinoline_Laphroaig @suvata will do! It's read at your own pace so pop back whenever and join in wth discussion Questions. 2d
suvata 1. Standout moments: Finding out that the wounds were inflicted after death.
2. Favorite quote: “It is far more comfortable to throw the guilt upon mysteries one cannot understand, than upon a human being disturbingly like oneself.”
3. Favorite character: Jane, of course.
4. Anything surprised you: It surprised me in the very beginning, when the dead person turned out to be a woman dressed in men‘s clothing.
2h
suvata 5. Something you learned about Jane or her time: The excessive use of opioids is always a shocker when I read books from this period. Really? They gave laudanum to children.
6. Would You Rather: Eat the tart made of veggies, eggs, and brains and have courage to do anything you wanted or eat nothing after 3pm and sleep soundly: I will sleep soundly. No brains for me!
2h
suvata 7. Listen to Mr Cooper's off key singing or Mrs Austen's complaints: Both would be intolerable, but I guess it would be easier to ignore Mrs. Austen‘s complaints.
8. Be the Guest of Honour at a Chatsworth dinner party or spend the day in the gardens with a picnic lunch: Picnic in the garden, please.
2h
suvata 9. Any other random thoughts: I forgot how good these books are. I read the first four quite a while ago, and I‘m just now catching up on the rest of them.

#Pemberlittens we're off to Canterbury Races and doing a spot of gardening with November's
#JaneAndTheExcellentReadalong

Title references classic garden design from Alexander Pope: "In laying out a garden, the first and chief thing to be considered is the genius of the place."

The Gardener in me loved this one when I read for #JaneandtheYear2020 because it mentions one of my favorite garden designs - the HaHa. ⬇️

Crinoline_Laphroaig Beautiful cover! It's just a bit dark which makes it hard to see in the photo. Jane is peering out from what I think is a Garden Folly. Will see if I remember correctly once I reread.⬇️

Crinoline_Laphroaig For background info there's a great Blog Post on Author's Website: http://francinemathews.blogspot.com/2011/04/surveying-jane-landscape-jane-and.ht...
Discussion Questions will be posted on Wednesday November 30th. 👩🏻‍🌾📖📚

TheBookHippie I‘m liking this one as well. Started it late due to my body not cooperating with me. Also we have the same mug!!! Thanks for the link! 3mo

#Pemberlittens Here's this month's #JaneandtheExcellentReadalong Discussion Post.

Crinoline_Laphroaig 1️⃣ How dangerous Charades can be. Eliza being Eliza, which was also my favorite quote.
2️⃣ “Sew—cook—wash—what other tasks must be onerous to a girl of spirit, Eliza?” my uncle enquired, puzzling it out.
“Visits to elderly relations?
”“No, no—it must be one syllable!”
3mo
Crinoline_Laphroaig 3️⃣Favorite Character - Lord Harold because he respects Jane's Intellect. Least Favorite - Judgemental Cassandra:
"Cassandra‘s goodness may be said to verge, with advancing age, upon prudery; and however respectable my sister‘s motives in the present case, her methods recalled the schoolroom."
3mo
Crinoline_Laphroaig 4️⃣ Who the murderer was. Originally read this for #JaneandtheYear2020 and apparently 2 years is about the length of time I can remember who did it.😆 (This happens for me with most Mysteries I reread. But it makes it feel like I'm reading for 1st time.) 3mo

Crinoline_Laphroaig 5️⃣ Eye Potraits were definitely something new.
6️⃣ While interesting, I would find it creepy AF if some wore a potraits of my eye.
7️⃣ Start with Jane Austen Centre followed by a walk through Sydney Gardens.
8️⃣How much I love Lord Harold, when all the Harolds I've know in real life have been truly terrible people.
3mo
Ruthiella I‘ll have to come back in a few days. I‘m only on chapter 7! 😬 But I will say the plot is really ticking along, which I appreciate. The pages are turning more rapidly than with the previous two. 3mo
rubyslippersreads @Crinoline_Laphroaig I‘ve never known a real-life Harold, although I‘ve always been in love with Professor Harold Hill. 😄 3mo
Sparklemn I just wanted to check in and let you know that I got behind with my reading. I plan to catch up in November and be back on schedule! 🤞 3mo
SarahBookInterrupted I won‘t be able to join along this time. 3mo
Crinoline_Laphroaig @rubyslippersreads perhaps I need to start keeping track of 'Good' Harolds. 3mo

I love revisiting 'what Jane calls “the gaieties” of the Christmas season two hundred years ago.' This one goes back on my #forevershelf. Later this month I'll be rereading #janeandthewaterloomap in anticipation of Feb 8th Release of #janeandtheyearwithoutasummer.

Prepping for start of tomorrow's #Pemberlittens Readalong of Mansfield Park. Reading Introduction so I'm ready for Chapter One. I've always struggled w/ Mansfield Park. Looking forward to Chapter a Day & group discussion. Mentions of MP in Jane and the Waterloo Map from my #janeandtheyear2020 has me excited. Thinking I'm going to have a new appreciation as I read through older eyes. 📖

Eyelit Ooh! Good reminder for me to pull my own copy so I can join in. Can‘t believe it‘s February already! 2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @Eyelit I know! Winters us almost halfway over and I haven't finished half my Winter projects. 😏 2y

Yesterday I had to get out for errands. (& yes I 😷.) Anthologies are always hard to rate overall. Some stories are brilliant: Jane Austen's Nightmare
A Night at Northanger
Jane & the Gentleman Rogue - reason I bought. 11.5 of Jane Austen Mysteries.
#janeandtheyear2020
👍for those.
#prideandprejudiceday #pemberlittens

“Silly Catherine,” said the ghost of Jane Austen indulgently. “There are no such things as ghosts.” - Night at Northanger

Crinoline_Laphroaig And my hat is called the Jane Austen hat from Victorian Trading Company. I got it end of last winter when it was on sale. https://www.victoriantradingco.com/item/25-HT-250037/100117/JANE-AUSTEN-HAT-BROW... 2y
PurpleyPumpkin Love your hat! It looks great on you. 👒👍🏽 2y

I want to do this. Sadly I have no parlour clock that chimes. Will have to download some chimes for my phone alarm.

Our New Year's Eve/Day Traditions aren't changing that much. Never been go out on the town people. I do always dress up even to drink champagne at home. In a normal year I would invite a few friends. Obviously this year that's not happening. Food Traditions stay the same, just in smaller quantities. ⬇️

Crinoline_Laphroaig New Year's Eve - Raclette. Wonderful meal of potatoes & cheese with a side of pineapple that were first served in Switzerland. Heavy meal. Perfect for a night you're staying up late. Dessert is Commander's Palace
Chocolate Molten Souffles. ⬇️
2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig New Year's Day - Mary Kay Andrews
fabulous Grits & Greens Casserole. Recipe is on her website or in her Beach House Cookbook. Grits, Cheese, & Butter. Served with Bloody Mary's. It's my favorite Brunch EVER! And it soaks up the Booze.

Supper is Blackeyed Pea Soup for luck. Served with cornbread. ⬇️
2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig Best of all everything can be prepped ahead of time. Leaving me time to sip champagne by the fire.

#janeandtheyear2020

PurpleTulipGirl One small glass a year. Rum is optional. 2y
inthegreensandblues I love egg nog! Though usually prefer with no alcohol even though I like other cocktails 2y
Deblovestoread No, thank you. 2y

Bookzombie I haven‘t ever had egg nog. 2y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled Used to love the stuff - now just a small glass on Christmas Eve, more for tradition and camaraderie than anything else! Afterwards I prefer to curl up with a nice pour of a peaty Scotch. 👍 2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @Bookzombie @PurpleTulipGirl @inthegreensandblues @Kdgordon88 last year was the first time I've had any. It was at a cookie swap. Not sure if it was homemade. The host was a Chef so I assume it was good stuff and why I liked it. I also like Brandy Milk Punch Cocktail which is similar. I'm with @ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled Scotch is always my favorite! 2y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled Brandy Milk Punch is YUM!! 2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled I need to make that over the holiday weekend. 2y
