Never Have I Ever
Never Have I Ever: My Life (So Far) Without a Date | Katie Heaney
"I've been single for my entire life. Not one boyfriend. Not one short-term dating situation. Not one person with whom I regularly hung out and kissed on the face." So begins Katie Heaney's memoir of her years spent looking for love, but never quite finding it. By age 25, equipped with a college degree, a load of friends, and a happy family life, she still has never had a boyfriend...and she's barely even been on a second date. Throughout this laugh-out-loud funny book, you will meet Katie's loyal group of girlfriends, including flirtatious and outgoing Rylee, the wild child to Katie's shrinking violet, as well as a whole roster of Katie's ill-fated crushes. And you will get to know Katie herself -- a smart, modern heroine relaying truths about everything from the subtleties of a Facebook message exchange to the fact that "Everybody who works in a coffee shop is at least a little bit hot." Funny, relatable, and inspiring, this is a memoir for anyone who has ever struggled to find love, but has also had a lot of fun in the process.

For you @dabbe 😁 and @hannah-leeloo I saw your post earlier.

I used to be a fire performer, pictured here with staff. But the things I‘m guessing maybe no one else on Litsy has done that I‘ve done are Fire eating and fire breathing. I toured with a circus doing this and Bellydance. The good old days, 😆🔥.

I hope some others will play along- what unusual thing have you done?

DinoMom Love watching fire artists. I haven‘t done it but I am a burlesque performer not so common on here I assume. 12mo
CBee That is seriously so awesome, Soubhi! I knew you‘d done belly dancing, but had no idea about the fire eating/breathing! So cool 🔥 12mo

Memoir Monday!!
I love memoirs. This is an interesting one about a girl who never dated and has social instincts that are actually worse than mine, which is a bit of a feat. Heaney's writing style is really entertaining and she's funny. I love the feminism of her outlook on things too. I'm totally with her.

“In fact, I think that‘s probably what the Bermuda Triangle is up to. It doesn‘t mean to do any harm, and it‘s actually pretty nice once you get to know it. It‘s just that Bermuda doesn‘t know how to handle itself when somebody sails into its territory, because that hardly ever happens.”

The only thing I haven't done is #6, because my library card is attached to my keys 😂 What about you @Blueberry ?

Blueberry It's been years (like almost 40) since I judged a book by it's cover. But done everything else, yup. # 9 is so funny. 5y

I have never Read Catcher in the Rye. At this point I think I‘m beyond the age group that should read it, and also I have zero interest in reading it based off of @AprilMaesBookHabit thoughts on it. #NeverHaveIEver

ReadingSusan I read it for the first time as a 30 year old. I loved it. 7y
AprilMae @haileyhugsbooks I don't know why I have such as strong hatred towards it! Might have been the time in my life I read it? Might have been because I was forced to read it? Might be the main character drives me up the wall? Idk! 7y
zezeki @AprilMaesBookHabit I also didn't like it. I was so annoyed with Holden through out the entire book. 7y
ItsAngel @haileyhugsbooks I‘ve never read it either...or not completely anyway. I started it forever ago and never finished I‘m not sure why. It wasn‘t a required read for me. I don‘t remember disliking it, just indifference. 7y

Well I've never read any 50 Shades or Twilight books (except for reading a page over someone's shoulder on a plane which was enough to convince me to stay AWAY). But I've also never read other popular authors like John Green, John Grisham, Nicholas Sparks, Jodi Picoult, or Fredrik Backman. Their books just don't sound right for me. #sorrynotsorry #neverhaveiever

eanderson Yup, never read 50 Shades either. I am sure I didn‘t miss out on anything! 😂 7y
Natasha.C.Barnes @eanderson Haha, yeah. I don't have a problem with BDSM, but I do have a problem with misrepresentation, manipulation, and more than anything--with bad writing! 😂 7y
ItsAngel @Natasha.C.Barnes I‘ve read a Bachman but not the popular ones. I quite enjoy Sparks but have to be in the mood. I don‘t care for Grisham, not really sure why because I haven‘t read much by him. Piccoult is meh. I have no opinion on Green. 🤷🏼‍♀️ No apologies from me either. 7y
MarriedtoMrT Very similar! I skimmed a 50 Shades chapter, read the first two Twilight but haven‘t read any of those other authors either. 7y
readinginthedark I was working at a bookstore when Fifty Shades came out, and I read the first book so I could gauge writing style and recommend other things to my customers, because no one else at my store would read it. I kind of hated the main characters. Everyone always talks about how strong they are, but they're two of the weakest characters ever...a la Twilight, same vein character-wise. So you'll be fine not reading those. 7y

#NeverHaveIEver read any in the Outlander series. I know people love the novels and the tv show, but I've never felt compelled to join in. Am I missing out on something big?

bookloo I personally found it incredibly boring and the dialogue incomprehensible. But I‘m in the minority! 🤷🏾‍♀️ 7y
ItsAngel @JackOBotts I‘ve read the first book and I thought it was pretty good. It got wordy in some spots and I skimmed. I also skip the sex/love scenes because I just don‘t like them. I‘ll eventually read the next one but I don‘t think that series is for everyone. @bookloo I was ok with the dialogue but agree some of it was a tad boring. 7y
tricours I agree with @ItsAngel 7y

Mehso-so

It's taken me almost a month to finish this. I'm a little disappointed because its been on my TBR pile for so long. There's also that awkwardly relentless talk about how awkward the narrator is. I ended up spending a lot of time re-reading after I'd inadvertently nodded off.

Pickpick

In this memoir, Katie Heaney talks about her love life, or lack there of, from elementary school through grad school.

This was between a pick and so-so for me. Great for a friend who is feeling bad about her love life and I certainly identified with the author at times. There were even a few laugh out loud moments. However, I was ready for this to end before it did. #boutofbooks
