Here is a bit of fan art I‘ve made that was inspired by my experience reading Neil Gaiman‘s The Sandman series. It‘s a self-portrait composite photo created from many layers. I took all of the photos used in this image myself.💕

I can‘t help telling everyone The Sandman is FREE on Audible until Oct 22. I love the comic books, and the Audible version has great cast including James McAvoy, and is narrated by Gaiman.

I give this book all the stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Not sure where I picked it up, or if it was a gift, but it‘s now one of my favorite non-fiction books. I even shed a couple of unexpected tears when it ended. Recommended for those who love nature, or who want to start loving it. 💕

The Idiot | Fyodor Dostoyevsky

A little mystery behind old books I found at one of my favorite haunts in Maine. They were in different sections of this labyrinthine store but seem to have been gifted between the same friends with hand written notes inside. According to their response, David and Jane didn‘t enjoy The Idiot by Fyodor Dostoyevsky. I may never know if they read the love stories by Ivan Turgenev out loud as suggested by Sveta (friend? teacher? doting aunt?). Sigh...

quietlycuriouskate Nice haul ❤ To answer your question, it's just that Russian women's last names have a feminine ending. I suppose the translator chose not to carry that over as we don't have a similar thing in English. "The Idiot" is fantastic and you might want to get some tissues in for the Hosseini ?. 6y

I've enjoyed all of Sedaris's books so far, and this was no exception. Maybe it's because I don't get around much, but I kept finding myself thinking, "are people really this mean to each other?" Are they?? I had to select the title as-is from Litsy, but the book only goes up to 2002. Looking forward to the next one.

I don't usually just pick up a book on a whim, but the title drew me in, and it was a good choice. I especially liked the practice of having the whole village gather around one of its members who had done wrong so that she would not be alone in her disgrace, and then having all participate in a cleansing ceremony to bring the fallen one back to the right path. I wonder what it would be like if that were common practice.

Never too old for a children's book, especially with great illustrations by Lane Smith.

A gapper is like a "burr in your sock", only bigger, and orange with lots of eyes. Gappers shriek with pleasure when they get near a goat because they love goats so much. The shrieking upsets the goats so they can't give milk which the people of Frip depend upon for their livelihood.

KellyMuser @Lindy Thanks for the reference, ill have to check it out!👍 7y
Lindy @KellyMuser Well, I don't know your taste in books yet. I would recommend it to someone who likes ornate romantic prose, or has a special interest in lesbian content, or modern retellings of Greek mythology - preferably all three. 7y
See All 6 Comments
KellyMuser @Lindy I'm kind of an eclectic reader. I tend to avoid romance, and have a strong sci-fi leaning. I like stories that are dark or strange. Kurt Vonnegut, Neil Gaiman, and Ray Bradbury are three of my favorite go-to authors. I also have a weakness for Russian literature. What do you like? 7y
Lindy @KellyMuser I'm an eclectic reader too. I especially look for a fresh voice in writing style & don't mind a challenging style as long as I feel it has heart behind it. Stories about women's lives that are different from mine - other places, other times - tend to appeal. Ali Smith, Margaret Atwood, Miriam Toews, Jeanette Winterson: these are some of the authors I trust. 7y
