The Dark Wife
The Dark Wife | Sarah Diemer
8 posts | 16 read | 26 to read
Three thousand years ago, a god told a lie. Now, only a goddess can tell the truth. Persephone has everything a daughter of Zeus could want--except for freedom. She lives on the green earth with her mother, Demeter, growing up beneath the ever-watchful eyes of the gods and goddesses on Mount Olympus. But when Persephone meets the enigmatic Hades, she experiences something new: choice. Zeus calls Hades "lord" of the dead as a joke. In truth, Hades is the goddess of the underworld, and no friend of Zeus. She offers Persephone sanctuary in her land of the dead, so the young goddess may escape her Olympian destiny. But Persephone finds more than freedom in the underworld. She finds love, and herself.

This book deconstructs the gender-based violence of Greek #mythology AND makes Hades and Persephone retroactively lesbians. What more do you want? #lesfic #lesbian #lesbianfantasy #wlw #queerbooks #queersfantasy

A fresh take on the Persephone myth that features a sweet lesbian romance. I liked this, even though Diemer's style is too ornate for my taste: "When her arms snaked around my shoulders, I pillowed my head upon her heart." I also appreciate a female Lord of Death, here presented as a serene nurse-type (as opposed to Neil Gaiman's perky goth version). Audio narrator Veronica Giguere's crisp enunciation makes for easy listening.

Lindy Thanks to Hatching Phoenix Productions and @HJODonnell for this review copy. 7y
Lindy @Redwritinghood @Bibliogeekery - You asked about my thoughts on this. Romance isn't my genre, but other aspects of the novel did appeal, so that's why this is a pick for me. 7y
Redwritinghood @Lindy Thanks. I don't usually read romance either, but this does sound different and interesting still. 7y

So my wife and I got to Columbus safely! (After our car died in Alabama and we had to abandon it there. 😅) Our roommate set up the cutest reading nook and we set up the finishing touches. I'm pretty pleased with it if I do say so myself. #readingnook

This was a YA romp through the Greek Underworld starring Persephone and Hades...who is in fact, also a woman. The storytelling is a little simplistic, but I'm all for portraying positive #lgbtq romances in this day and age. #betterworldbookchallenge #fairytale #readharder #readharder17 #lgbtqromance #rc18 #lgbtqrelationship

Crocheting, reading, being able to wear a sweatshirt. Seriously enjoying this book, though it's pace is pretty slow. Still: ❤️ (f/f - Persephone/Hades retelling)

OutlandishLit Ok stop are you actually able to craft and read a physical book at the same time 8y
MrBook You sound exactly like @BookBabe 😊👌🏻. You two must be #KindredSpirits. 8y

Very cute. Fun, fast read. Great to read a f/f love story that was fun and sweet. I almost wish that Hades and Persephone would have been a bit less...good. I like the idea of a powerful, slightly cold goddess and her lover who loves the dark. And the two of them taking over and not giving a f*ck.

BOOKISH MAIL: A retelling of Persephone and Hades with a female Hades?!?! Finally ordered this for myself and can't wait to dive right in. I think the other books I'm reading will have to be put on pause for this one.
