Perfectly captures the life of a 6th Grade girl in the 1970s. A walk down memory lane!

I read Are You There God… when I was much closer to the demographic target, so this looked like an interesting change of pace. I snapped it up when it was offered in my free cycle group.

It was a compelling story of coming of age amidst tragedy. For the most part I was pulled along and wanted to know how the story turned out, but some of the plot verged melodrama with characters that got on my nerves. #authoramonth

Susanita Now it‘s headed to the LFL along with a cookbook I never opened and a couple other books I found in my mini bookcase reorg. 22h

Gosh, I loved this. Heartfelt slice of life YA novel about handling grief after losing a parent. Unflinching and honest. Made me tear up a few different times.

I‘m also so grateful the elements of teenage love sprinkled throughout wasn‘t the main focus - how unique, to be honest.

What a tricky character that Sharon is! 🤣

Cute lil children‘s book on the principal of the grass is always greener. As a person with a lot of freckles, I‘d be ready for that magic remover, too. 😆 #AuthorAMonth

I reread this for #AuthorAMonth. It held up to what I remember from my childhood read of it. I had forgotten that in addition to the main theme of puberty and friends at that age, Margaret is trying to decide if she is interested enough to join her father‘s Jewish faith or her mother‘s Christian one.

tpixie I had forgotten that part of the story as well. 20h

Wild how much has changed (and stayed the same) for elementary age kids since this was published. It made me cringe, chuckle, wince, and desperately wonder where were the adults. 🫣 #AuthorAMonth

Soubhiville I remember a lot of adult free time, even on the playground at school. It would have been in the early 80‘s for my elementary school years. 3d
Melismatic It‘s true. Blume‘s writing really feels truthful to the childhood experience. @Soubhiville (edited) 3d
