Time for the bookish discussion question of the day 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻! Here it is: What‘s your advice for someone in a #readingslump? #BookTalk

DGRachel Read an old favorite or go do something other than reading, whatever other hobby you have, and most importantly, don‘t force it and be kind to yourself. 7d
MissAimz_55 Go back to an old favorite and reread it. Pick up an easy and fast highly rated read. And I agree don‘t force it and don‘t set expectations or goals. 7d
ljuliel I usually change up genres. If I can find a really good true crime, that might yank me out of it. I usually go to about 3 libraries and bring home enough books to make a stepladder to the roof of my house , trying to find one that clicks. Sometimes, I just have to ride it out. During that time, I keep an audiobook playing just in case I can get it to work. I really dislike the Slumps and hope I don‘t hit one now. I‘ve been on a good roll lately. 7d

Emilymdxn I try to think about what I love about reading and then do things that give me that so I‘m not missing out if that makes sense? If I wanna feel huge sweeping emotions I‘ll listen to the right music, if I wanna be caught up in a story I‘ll watch a film, if I wanna learn about the world I‘ll read the paper or listen to a podcast. I try to remind myself reading is 1 of a million ways of expanding my mind, and I can turn to other ways 7d
JackOBotts Read a tried and true favorite! 7d
GripLitGrl Reread a favorite, try a short read or switching it up to a new genre to get back into the reading grove. Sometimes just taking a break from books helps too. 7d
Sargar114 I agree with the reread something you‘ve already read and enjoyed. I also like going the opposite direction and participate in a book club or buddy read, even if you‘re reading something you aren‘t enjoying the discussions usually make it enjoyable. 7d
MrT In a reading slump because you're bored with reading the same genre? Read a genre you have never read before or only read once because it 'wasnt for you'. Mine was 'proper' sci-fi. Never read because I just didn't think it was for me. Kicked started my reading block. 7d
ljuliel @Sargar114 Great idea. A book discussion would probably get you more enthused again. 7d
readingjedi Read something you know you're going to hate - you'll be so desperate to read something - ANYTHING - else and when you finish the loathed time your enthusiasm for your next book will know no bounds 😉 7d
annahenke Listen to a podcast with people talking about reading!! I love doing this. It always gets me in the mood for a good book - especially if it involves a great recommendation! 7d
Sargar114 @annahenke good idea! 7d
Amiable Take a break from reading. Watch TV. Most of what‘s on these days is crap so you‘ll be craving an intellectual pursuit before long! 7d
quirkyreader Ask an older relative what they are reading and start a new family connection. 7d
TheAromaofBooks Rereading a favorite, or sometimes reading complete and total fluff - brain candy (my personal secret addiction is terrible Pride & Prejudice variations on Kindle Unlimited) often just gets me back into the reading groove and gives me a break from all the “scheduled“ reading I tend to do. 7d
TieDyeDude Graphic novels. I tend to blow through graphic novels, and the pictures help reset my brain from straight prose. 7d

This is my review for a book I just read by Jennifer Joyce called “A Beginner‘s Guide To Christmas”. I just realized that I‘m experiencing a #readingslump since finishing the #asongoficeandfire series. I‘m going to take a break from reading and do something else for awhile. I‘m not in the mood to read like I thought I was.

A few of the non-fiction books from my possible picks. Setting a defined #tbr is a ticket to a #readingslump for me, so I‘m making sure to keep my options open. #scarathlon #teamstoker

I‘m in the middle of a bail-a-thon. I bailed on Jeffrey Archer‘s first in his new series because the main character is flat. I bailed on “Spring” by Ali Smith because I like a political rant as much as the next gal but these are essays, not a novel. I bailed on three others this week (in comments!) I want a character to fall in love with and a gripping story, written beautifully. Ideas, Littens? Image credit: Mel Neale. #readingslump 👎🏻

jillrhudy Too intense/preachy. Not in the mood. Probably Ali Smith‘s fault. Another time I might love both! 4mo
jillrhudy I keep imagining what Alice Hoffman or Anne Tyler could do with this plot and characters that this author can‘t. Boring! 4mo

Aimeesue @jillrhudy Most welcome! But you‘re gonna want to read Old Baggage too. Sorry, not sorry. Mattie is awesome. 4mo

I have been in a significant slump since early July, I can mainly consume books in audio format. It is a bit upsetting, but at least I am reading.
I am one chapter into this one and it is an interesting and insightful look into the way we perceive, judge and deal with female celebrities gone off the rails, and what does that say about our society and gender expectations.
