Mehso-so

Sorry for sharing this #ReadWithMrBook #debut a day late ?! So, I‘m torn between a pick & so-so with this shorter read. If you love books, the publishing world, Cape Cod, this‘ll work as a good beach read for you! The coming-of-age story kept me engaged but wasn‘t a wow, if that makes sense; maybe it moved too slow & seemed a tad cliché. It‘s worth a read for any bibliophile regardless ?. #PairWith: a Cape Codder (vodka & cranberry w/ lime) ?

My #ReadWithMrBook April #LibrarianRec book is this acclaimed drama! A colleague found me reading from the dramas section and rec‘d this one. A 1929 Cuban-American cigar-rolling factory acquires a new lector (work-floor reader) who begins reading “Anna Karenina”. The characters each have issues & aspirations. The plot paces well while delving into deeper reflections of culture, persona, literature, progress. 4.5 ⭐️‘s #PairWith: Havana Club Rum 🥃

What a wonderful piece! This short, pithy essay absorbs the reader in attempting to pin down a seemingly amorphous concept (a common feature across the pop-lexical landscape)—bullshit. He uses definitional & idiomatic starting points and builds from those. Easy to understand, yet induced serious “ah-hah” reflection from me. A fun read for anyone who enjoys language.

#PairWith: a spot of piping English Breakfast or a few shots of American Honey.

Repost from @MrBook :

Some people would say I'm going way out on a limb, but I know my #LitsyFamily. I'm placing 12 of my 2018 reads in your hands, Littens! 1/month

Which titles do you want me to read this year? You each get 1 pick. Type it in this post's comments. They'll all go on slips in a jar. I'll randomly pick the 1st 6 months now & do this again at June's end.

You have until midnight Fri Jan 5th EST.

Sleeping Beauties | Stephen King, Owen King
post image
Pickpick

Get ready for a helluva twist on Sleeping Beauty! The apocalypse comes in the form of cocooned sleep for all the planet's females. The world's fate hinges on the small town of Dooling! Cue the mayhem & blood, Evie the goddess/monster, and another dimension. Deep, worthwhile themes regarding the sexes, family, environmentalism. Should be 100 pages shorter though. 3.75/5 stars. #PairWith: Jack & Coke straight (alcoholic); Monster Übermonster (non-a)

amywithbooks I can‘t WAIT for this!!!! 7y

OSChamberlain Am I insane because I want to read all of SK‘s books in the order they were published in? I am, aren‘t I?? 7y
MrBook @OSChamberlain Lol, not at all! I plan to read quite a few authors' books in the order they wrote them. You get to watch the process develop within them and witness their evolution. That's very cool. 👌🏻👌🏻 7y
OSChamberlain Exactly! Plus with King there‘s the added benefit that there‘s nods to his stories woven throughout his novels. Supposedly, they‘re all somewhat connected to each other 🤷🏻‍♂️ 7y
MrBook @OSChamberlain Aye! Most of them do indeed. It gets quite elaborate. For every question that gets answered, two more spring up. 7y
tpixie @OSChamberlain yes! I feel like I need to take one to two years off work to devote to reading Stephen King and having a journal to help to jot down all the thread connections! (edited) 7y

Egads! I've been tagged! I've been challenged by the always enjoyable @ssravp to make a #FiveStarPredictions post!

Here are some TBR's I think I'll rate 5 stars: Empire Falls; 1Q84; The Book; All the King's Men; The Doubter's Alamanc; Gödel, Escher, Bach.

I'll #PairWith JW Blue for these anticipated selections. ???

I tag @CouronneDhiver , @Caffienequeen , @JenP , @annahenke , @kylienoele , @Jamesfahyauthor to see what you all have in mind.

IamIamIam Oh no, 1Q84?!?! 🤤 I'll be patient and see how you feel about it... lol 7y

Same book. Different view.

Still working my way through this absorbing mystery while on vacation. Vera Stanhope has an impressive view of Fort Sumpter from her room balcony. Lets hope all murders remain in the book. 😉

I needed a break from It. 😬 Chilly night calls for Italian chicken stew and some wine. Starting the first Harry Hole book over dinner! I've been curious for a while but haven't picked them up yet. 🍲🥖

We're drinking an Australian dark red wine called Banished by 19 Crimes—perfect fall wine & perfect to #pairwith this crime novel set in Australia! 🍷

MrBook That looks awesome! 😁👌🏻 7y
BookishFeminist @MrBook Homemade soup is the best! 7y
Karkar Did you download the app of the wine? You can have the person on the label tell you their story thru the app. It is cool 7y

BookishFeminist @Karkar No I haven't! That sounds super cool. Will def try it. I had no idea you could do that because I just sort of open it and start drinking. 😬😂 7y
vivastory I'm planning on reading this Nesbo soon. I was planning on reading them in order, but I'm going to make an exception for The Snowman. I want to read it before I see the movie. 7y
BookishFeminist @vivastory 🙈🙈🙈 I can't do that! Reading them out of order would make me twitch. 7y
