Einstein
Einstein: His Life and Universe | Walter Isaacson
By the author of the acclaimed bestsellers Benjamin Franklin and Steve Jobs, this is the definitive biography of Albert Einstein. How did his mind work? What made him a genius? Isaacsons biography shows how his scientific imagination sprang from the rebellious nature of his personality. His fascinating story is a testament to the connection between creativity and freedom. Based on newly released personal letters of Einstein, this book explores how an imaginative, impertinent patent clerka struggling father in a difficult marriage who couldnt get a teaching job or a doctoratebecame the mind reader of the creator of the cosmos, the locksmith of the mysteries of the atom, and the universe. His success came from questioning conventional wisdom and marveling at mysteries that struck others as mundane. This led him to embrace a morality and politics based on respect for free minds, free spirits, and free individuals. These traits are just as vital for this new century of globalization, in which our success will depend on our creativity, as they were for the beginning of the last century, when Einstein helped usher in the modern age.

Beyond his impressive scientific contributions, Einstein was known as a peacemaker and civil-rights advocate, and has called himself an agnostic rather than an atheist.

LoopyNZ The horror! Discovering you've been unwittingly reading an abridged version! 😭 4y

I am finding that Mr. Isaacson may not have undertaken the project of writing Mr. Einstein's life with out a certain amount of prejudice on his part to help in the minimizing of Mrs. Einstein. Even though he clearly keeps making reference to which I can see she foot print in Albert Einstein's life.

Thanks to Marie Benedict I am on a quest to see if Albert Einstein was really such a jerk.

ValerieAndBooks I‘ve been to Tybee Island! It was cool both literally and figuratively— went during our kids‘ spring break and it was maybe in the 60s. Still fun. We did Savannah and Charleston during that trip too; I think it was 2014. 6y

About the life of Einstein, this book gives so many insights about the genius' life, his relationships, how his scientific career begun and developed, his opinions in matters of politics, religion...
It was very interesting getting to know Einstein as the person he was rather than only by his equations.

I have not read this biography yet, nor the Cheever bio, on the bottom, and I've only started (and stalled on) The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet. I'm not scared of big books at all, really!! Gotta snap to it soon. #deckleEdge #feistyFeb.

susanw Jacob de Zoet had been 'currently reading' on GoodReads for 2 years now. You can say I've stalled. It's not bad, just got put down without getting picked up again. 7y

We always hear E= mc2 & see a frazzled old man sticking out his tongue, but that's about it. This incredible bio will bring AE vividly to life for you! It was also a great 20th-Century history lesson and intro to physics. He was fun, witty, sensitive, flawed, quirky, & ahead of his time. You may get bogged down a bit with the unavoidable science. The audio's narrator is the best of the best. #PairWith: Chateau Saint-Cyrgues Blanc 2015, chilled.

I really liked this book. I didnt love it as much as the Steve Jobs biography but this was really good. It just has so much SCIENCE!!!! I was a science major so I'm kind of geek but this was an essential part of him and it was a little overwhelming at times.
